hello, i live in the middle of nowhere and i really want to set up some shows but there is nothing but vfw halls in my area and i don't have the money to rent them. i've heard that they will let you rent them for free if the show is for charity. does anyone know if this is true or have any advice about setting up benefit shows?
your best bet is to find out what sort of charity you're looking to benefit first, then get in contact with the people who run these VFWs to see what they say. i'm willing to bet that 1 out of ever 10 halls would let someone book a show for free if it's for a charitable event.
Contact the Red Cross as your charity. Then be sure to sell t-shirts at the show that say "Fuck Hurricane Victims". They love that.

call vfw hall and ask. if so, give money to charity. nah, that'd be too direct. go on a forum and ask people not from "the middle of nowhere" for advice.
