FUCKING CARS!!! () my transmission let go when I was leaving the office today, I have working (but slipping) reverse and NO FUCKING DRIVE!!! I called around, and it looks like it's appx. a $2000 fix (again )... I only paid $1700 for the car in the first place WTF?!?!?!

if I had the $2000 to fix it, I sure as hell wouldn't be fixing this car, I'd be using that for a down payment on something more reliable. now I'm sans car (yet again ), and I'm sure the owner of my company won't be happy with my car sitting in the parking lot indefinitely ()...

I hate not having money, and I have the WORST FUCKING LUCK (once more for good measure ) with automobiles... I'm buying a bicycle at least I can afford to fix one of those...

FUCK!

/rant....

DISCUSS!

what kind of car is it?

toggletoggle post by pam   at Apr 5,2007 12:34am
ugh, that sucks dude. Our last 4 cars have been one expensive problem after another, you have my sympathy.

toggletoggle post by dj death at Apr 5,2007 12:36am
Yeah, me too. My VW lost its transmission about a year ago. I paid 2200 just to REPAIR it, now, the warranty is wearing off, AND the car still has problems. Ive been back about 5 times to have the transmission RErepaired. Buy the bike dude.

1997 Mercury Mistake... err.. Mystique

my bicycle was $900....
I bet your car gets better gas mileage without all that weight in it.

toggletoggle post by DaveFromTheGrave  at Apr 5,2007 1:52am
what the hell kind of bicycle do you have?

toggletoggle post by postmortempete at Apr 5,2007 2:27am
I think you should think about getting a horse.

toggletoggle post by Joshtruction   at Apr 5,2007 5:53am
Too bad it's front wheel drive and I don't want to be botherd. If it was rear wheel drive I'd fix it dirt cheap for you. I have fixing FWD tranny's. Worst thing in the world.

toggletoggle post by Mess at Apr 5,2007 6:30am
i just dropped $400 into a new exhaust for my truck. flowmaster rules. 205k miles and still kick'n. i've had to replace shit here and there but overall it's much better than knowing you have to pay out the ass every month for a car payment. imo.

toggletoggle post by mOe  at Apr 5,2007 8:30am
i beg to differ
every month i was coming out of my pocket 150-300 bucks to fix something else with my car(which was given to me). To make matters worse to have it pass inspection in MA it would have taken me roughly 2 grand to bring it up to code. After 2 years i just got fucking sick of it and the lady and I went to a dealership. Yeah, i kinda pay out of the ass and its tough, but at least i dont have to miss a week of work because my car isnt running. Peace of mind has no price

toggletoggle post by sxealex   at Apr 5,2007 9:38am
dont get it fixed. get a used honda or toyota. american cars are 95% gay.

toggletoggle post by sxealex   at Apr 5,2007 9:39am
only exception i can think of off the top of my head is a cherokee.

But yeah, do what that other dude said, lose that piece of shit and buy a used gook-mobile -- Honda or Toyota is always a good bet.

i am dealing with the same shit.. finally got everything fixed by a relative so it wasn't too much $$.. but there was so much shit wrong with it.. head gasket, brakes, coolant leak, broken water pump.. DON'T EVER BUY A PONTIAC GRAND AM... then i take it to get inspected and it fails for brake lights and emissions ... what the fuck...

one of my ex-girlfriends had a mystique. it was only a couple years old and the serpentine belt was wearing out, the check engine light was constantly on, and the transmission was iffy. Then again she's a bonehead and probably did something to ruin it.

does anyone know how much it would cost to replace the windshield in a car? I have my 97 Kia still, it needs breaks, exhaust and a windshield... I forgot about that until this morning... WTF, I'm a moron (no comments form the peanut gallery)

Roughly $200

$200 is far more reasonable then what the local places are going to charge me for my trasnmission in my Mercury

smash it in yourself you dingbat. and then call your insurance company and say somone smashed it while you were sleeping. FREEEEEEEEEEEE

That happened to me last month when I got my first car. The first half-hour of owning it, the transmission goes in the busiest intersection in Dover.

I feel your pain. Definitely unappreciated.

toggletoggle post by Yeti at Apr 5,2007 12:44pm
i had an 86 Camaro that i got for free, and i blew the transmission and the engine in one shot. that was a horrid sound.

Lemme add to that list of "do not buy..."
Do not buy Hyundai, particularly the Hyundai Accent. I have a 2002, purchased new as they come. The car isn't even 5 years old yet and over the past 6 months I've had to put $2000 into it. When the car was still extremely new (1-2 years old) I had problems with it stalling out while I was driving (actually moving, not just at a red light or something)- turned out to be the power relay which fortunately was covered by warranty. Anyway, all my brakes had to be replaced last August and in February I had to replace my exhaust, tie rods, and I still have to get the oxygen sensor replaced (not to mention the timing belt which is supposedly "routine" after 5 years or 60,000 miles... of which I am only at the 35,000 mark). Its great on gas / mileage, but fuck the rest!!!

toggletoggle post by ValkyrieScreams  at Apr 5,2007 12:59pm
Oh yeah, and they dent and crumple up like an empty soda can.

toggletoggle post by Yeti at Apr 5,2007 1:02pm

it's sitting in my mother-in-laws driveway at the moment, and if I open an insurance policy on it then cave in the windshield shortly after I get the policy on it, they'll ask too many questions, and probably deny my claim. I know too many adjusters for it to work anyways. good thought though

toggletoggle post by DreamingInExile   at Apr 5,2007 1:06pm
yeah, my dad knows a guy that owns a small glass company, he's gonna do the windshield for the cost of the glass, no labor charge

I won't be surprised if my clutch dies soon. Second gear has been giving me trouble lately. This figures since I have about 2 payments left on the thing. I'd love to sell it but some asshole vandalized the body pretty badly in September so the value of this thing won't ammount to shite. I gotta move someplace where there's no snow and get one of those fancy bikes.

I have a plan out, but it's on my mercury mistake, not on the kia, and if I change it over to the kia, I wouldn't be able to smash the window for a while, and I need to get an inspection sticker

i did for like 3-4 months with my bonneville

Get a Toyota. I've had my 93 Corolla for almost 9 years, and I've never had to do anything other than regular maintenance on my car (oil changes, new belts, new tires, brake pads, etc.). The only time my car ever broke down was because some of the belts snapped, and that was my own fault for not replacing them when I should have.

As for cars not to buy, I've always noticed that Dodge/Chrysler cars tend to crap out after about 50,000 miles. Every now and then, there is the rare Dodge Neon that refuses to die, but most of them end up with a blown head gasket after about 40,000-50,000 miles.

toyota<honda honda has tighter suspension and front end, better powersteering, holds value better, are more responsive and most of them are wider cars too. only downside is the exaust seems to rust out really quick. at least up till 97.

900 isnt all that expensive
for a high end whip you can pay up to 2 grand
some bikes go for even more, but after that you end up hitting the law of diminishing returns where your paying for ridiculous shit thats not really gonna make your bike perform that much better
i paid like 4-500 to build up my road bike but thats only cuz i work in a bike shop so i pay wholesale, plus i got a lot of the big ticket items (frame, fork, crankset) for free

Dude, that car is a hunk of shit! If you can come up with the cash it costs to get that fixed, you might as shall just buy something new and use that cash for a down payment, or buy something used in better condition that that other load.

Either way, that blows donkey balls man.

toggletoggle post by mOe  at Apr 5,2007 4:23pm
yea
i drove a Jeep GRand Cherokee around for like 3-4 weeks until i brought my SUbaru and that thing was THE biggest piece of shit. Laudnry list of problems:
+ Non working Spedometer
+ no lock on the back hatch
+ No Lock on the Drive side door (it sat in newark in an open parking lot for a year so it was broken into countless times, but the thieves could never get it stolen)
+ steering column was all busted up and held together with tape, THUS the car was make the dinging noise cars make when you leave the lights on, leave your key in the ignition, etc. ALL DAY AND NIGHT regardless of what you were doing
+ i would usually slide when braking suddenly (dry or wet road) even though the tires looked to be in pretty good condition
+ It needed an all new electrical system for the rear light assemblies, they just DIDNT work
+ it was probably THE loudest automibile I have ever heard

Yea, after my parents stiffed me with that piece of shit, i threw in the towel and went to a dealership. That was going to be no less than 2 grand to fix all thats hit, most likely a lot more

toggletoggle post by immortal13 at Apr 5,2007 7:39pm
American cars have been catching up. Nowadays a Dodge 2500 with a Cummins Turbdiesel will last you just as long as a Toyota Camry. All it really takes is routine maintenance. You take care of a car, it'll take care of you.

toggletoggle post by INFECT  at Apr 5,2007 11:29pm
hahahahaha, thats such a bad comparison
diesels always last longer than gas engines because their short blocks are, well, "diesel"
however, most american cars are way better than they used to be in the 80's
still not as good as they were in the 50s and 60's
change your oil and fluids regularly you can make almost any car run forever
ex: my 1977 impala that i recently sold had 200,000 + mi and still running strong
