Too bad it will get veto'd.

"The stakes in Iraq are too high and the sacrifices made by our military personnel and their families too great to be content with anything but success," said Republican Whip Roy Blunt, R-Mo.

THAT SHIT fucking boils my blood. I'm so sick of hearing that. So what? We fucking keep at this another 5 years just because we have to "win"? Fucking asshole. YOU CANT FORCE DEMOCRACY ON PEOPLE...
LET.THEM.FUCKING.KILL.EACH.OTHER.

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at Mar 23,2007 2:48pm
Ignoring a White House veto threat, lawmakers voted 218-212, mostly along party lines, for a binding war spending bill requiring that combat operations cease before September 2008, or earlier if the Iraqi government does not meet certain requirements.

toggletoggle post by pam   at Mar 23,2007 2:49pm
Sometimes democracy is a bitch like that. We'll never get out of this war until that self-righteous moron is out of office.

toggletoggle post by metal_church101  at Mar 23,2007 2:50pm
All politicians suck.

toggletoggle post by pam   at Mar 23,2007 2:53pm
You won't get an argument out of many people on that one, metal church.

toggletoggle post by metal_church101  at Mar 23,2007 3:03pm
I know. You have shit to choose from so no matter who makes it into office, you have a self surving asshole with their own intentions.

Some are just worse then others, but bottom line, you still have a self surving asshole with their own intentions

toggletoggle post by pam   at Mar 23,2007 3:04pm
Best method is to pick the asshole who's self serving tendencies will somehow serve the greater good. If some self-serving asshole will help get us out of this bullshit war to make himself look better...fine by me.

toggletoggle post by metal_church101  at Mar 23,2007 3:07pm
Exactly. But then when they all pretty much equally suck, you're fucked. SOmething like now.

I approve this message, snarky snarky snarky.

toggletoggle post by aeser   at Mar 23,2007 3:10pm
there is no "winning" this war. you can't force people who have hated eachother for thousands of years to suddenly get along because another country invaded them. but this war was never about "winning" or "freedom" or "democracy", it's about defence and construction contracts where money goes straight into their bank accounts. the longer it goes on, the more money they make. "stay the course"="fuck you, pay me".

toggletoggle post by pam   at Mar 23,2007 3:10pm
haaaaahh

toggletoggle post by pam   at Mar 23,2007 3:11pm
Well put, aeser.

toggletoggle post by metal_church101  at Mar 23,2007 3:13pm
You can't force democracy on people. Not when they don't want it and I agree. I also think we have a dumb ass in the white house, but I think the alternative a few years back was even worse.

Right now, we're fighting terrorists over there vs fighting them over here. Is it expensive? Yes. Is the whole thing fucked? Yes.

Would I rather cut and run and have IRAN and the camel jockies get gutsier and take the jihad to us over here? Not at all.

toggletoggle post by pam   at Mar 23,2007 3:17pm
Being over there doesn't protect us from them coming here. That's just a scare tactic.

toggletoggle post by metal_church101  at Mar 23,2007 3:20pm
It doesn't completely prevent them, but we are taking it to them. We're not just fighting the camel jockies from Iraq over there. We're fighting them from Syria and Iran as well.

Either way, the situation is still fucked. Shiite = shit = radical muslim

toggletoggle post by pam   at Mar 23,2007 3:21pm
I don't see how letting 18 year old kids getting blown to bits is making us any safer. It's just pissing those backwards fucks off and breeding more hate and resentment, which is breeding MORE terrorists. If anything, staying there makes us less safe.

toggletoggle post by Yeti at Mar 23,2007 3:26pm
its sad when you think about what this debauchery will look like in 60 years. it certainly wont be taught in schools as "The Glorious Liberation Of The People's Technocratic Republic Of Iraq By The Combined Forces Of The United Territories Of America and Europa". we'll be telling our grandchildren about "The Great Iraq Fuck-Up"

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Mar 23,2007 3:26pm
two facts:

one, what the fuck would iraqis do... float a couch over here and attack us? wasn't that in a pink panther movie?

two, we are making more of them. like pam said. so we are killing off people that would have just stayed camel jockies until we put a bug up there butts by being there.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Mar 23,2007 3:28pm
history is going to look on this like they look on vietnam.. korea if we are lucky. think about it, the last 2 wars we really tried were utter fuck ups and we still have how many troops in korea? actually, how many do we still have in germany and japan?

toggletoggle post by metal_church101  at Mar 23,2007 3:29pm
The camel jockies hate us no matter what and will always come after us and attack us no matter where we are. Because of that, they always breed more.

I hate the fact that 18 year old kids are getting killed no matter where they are stationed. However, If we are over there, the camel jockies have to deal with us in more than one place. If we are not over there, they can focus more on us over here.

Has this war been "run" right, hell no. Do I think John Kerry being in office would have made an improvement for America, hell no once again. I still think we're better off.

At least we live in a country where we can debate this issue and not have our throats cut.

toggletoggle post by metal_church101  at Mar 23,2007 3:30pm

and the monkey says The House of Representatives today passed a spending bill that includes a firm deadline -- August 31, 2008 -- for combat troops to leave Iraq. President Bush said the House had abdicated its responsibility to protect the troops and denounced the vote as "political theater." He said the vote had only one outcome: "It delays the delivery of vital resources for our troops.

toggletoggle post by Sinistas   at Mar 23,2007 3:49pm
I know it's stupid to engage in actual, rational discussion about G-Dub, but you have to love that most of America is in favor of getting our troops the hell out of there, and the response is that we're neglecting to protect the troops.

toggletoggle post by ZJD   at Mar 23,2007 3:49pm
Not only can you not force democracy on a people, but I would imagine most Iraqis resent us even more for being the country to try. We don't have the greatest track record, kawm'sayin'?

toggletoggle post by pam   at Mar 23,2007 3:53pm
Anyone that doesn't realize us being there is tripling the amount of terrorists is an idiot.

toggletoggle post by pam   at Mar 23,2007 3:57pm edited Mar 23,2007 3:57pm
If you know anything about history, you'd know that devastating poverty, desperation, and occupation make formally "radical" groups look like an option.

Look at post WWI Germany, how the fuck do you think the Nazi's rallied so much support? No one cares about freedom when their children are starving. All someone has to do is preach to you about the glories of your motherland, and how eradicating the oppressors will bring back jobs, food, etc, and bam, you've got supporters.

toggletoggle post by hungtableed at Mar 23,2007 4:36pm
Considering the vote was barely enough to pass the bill, there's no way they'll get the 2/3 to over ride the inevitable veto by the prez.

toggletoggle post by pam   at Mar 23,2007 4:39pm
This war sticks until he loses his office to a democrat or a republican with his head not up his ass. This is more of a statement than something Democrat's think they'll actually get in motion.

Instead of arguing with Bush over troop surges and withdrawl dates, why not just impeach the asshole, then he'd be put of the way and we could start cleaning up this fucking mess. I really don't understand why he's still in office...no one wants him there, and he's gone above and beyond reason to impeach him.

if you impeach bush then cheney is president, think anything is going to change?

toggletoggle post by pam   at Mar 23,2007 4:53pm
I don't think someone knows what "impeach" means.

To impeach a president or member of government means to formally ACCUSE them...not remove them. Only 2 presidents have ever been impeached, and neither of them were removed from office. The legal proceedings will take so long it will just end up a big waste of time, and he WON'T get convicted.

toggletoggle post by pam   at Mar 23,2007 4:55pm
Instead of whining to impeach the asshole, we ought to be raising money to properly arm and protect those we have over there until we get Cock monkey and his diabolical co-pilot out of office.

Honestly, right? Impeachment wouldn't do a damned thing in regards to getting him out of office. By the time he'd be out (if he were guilty that is) it'd be time for a new president anyways. Impeachment would waste maaaaad $$$ (not that we're not wasting it elsewhere) and would turn our congress and senate into a forum of pissing and moaning and shit when they should be trying to come up with real working resolutions to fix anything they see as a problem.

If Bush was impeached, I doubt Cheney would get anywhere, the floodgates could finally open to drag him into court and bring him up on the charges he should be facing as well. Since most if not all of this administration should be rotting in prison, I don't see why no one would want to charge them with the crimes they've so blatently commited. Letting them stay in office and make things worse dosn't seem like a smart option.

hahahaha
A lot of the money allocated in the bill had nothing to do with the war. This bill was fucking loaded with pork. Makes me wonder if it was really ever about the war in the first place. http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/na...8688.story?coll=la-headlines-nation

"Included in the Democrat priorities is $283 million for the Milk Income Loss Contract program, $74 million for peanut storage costs, $60.4 million for salmon fisheries, $50 million for asbestos mitigation at the U.S. Capitol Plant, $13 million for ewe lamb replacement, $24 million for sugar beet producers, $40 million for tree assistance and $25 million for spinach growers."

http://www.examiner.com/a-634996~Don_t_Hol...ps_Hostage_for_Pork___Politics.html

ugghh, way to go - make sure you vote to pull out them troops.....*cough* and the $74mil for peanut storage...who said that?
