I ended up feeding both my cats the tainted food that has already killed at least 9 cats, and has many more on dialysis.

Since my Maine Coon is a fat hog, he got WAY sicker than the little runt.
Never seen cats puke like that. Ive seen them rocket out hairballs and shit, but this was like REAL puke.

I feel bad for the guy, hes all nappy and sick, and is scheduled to goto the vet tomorrow for ball chopping, but I dunno if theyll do it if hes still sick.
Any ideas?
Anyone else have this happen?
All I know is, if he dies, I'll be pissed. No one kills my cat, but me.

toggletoggle post by y_ddraig_goch  at Mar 21,2007 12:47am
dude Maine coons are evil, my friend had one and it had asthma so it was on steriods...fucking thing was a demon.

me and my friends have made up myths about that cat, and how it's spawn live in methuen, tyngsboro, and lowell, all the places it's lived. everytime we drive through those towns we lock our doors and say "fucking herd of xenas might attack us (xena is his cat's name)"

They put cats on dialysis?

Seems kindof stupid putting some cats on dialysis, but euthenising 8000 other cats a week.

toggletoggle post by sxealex   at Mar 21,2007 1:19am
i hope my dog dies. shes 16 and shitting everyplace. i gotta clean it up everyday like 4 times a day sometimes. shes cool but i have no love to give her. i have like 2 barrels filled with shit in a bag. i think im gonna throw it all at someones house.

toggletoggle post by succubus  at Mar 21,2007 8:37am
nope.
thanks to me I buy specialty cat food that the vet first recommended and gave me for free, supposed to be better for them and now i buy it at the pet store.

toggletoggle post by Mess at Mar 21,2007 8:40am
science diet dry food is what i use
tastes great

toggletoggle post by succubus  at Mar 21,2007 8:41am
^^^^ that's what I use too..i just realized i didn't write in the brand name..hahaha

toggletoggle post by largefreakatzero at Mar 21,2007 8:42am
That sucks, no we don't feed wet food to our dogs or cats, dry only. I believe only some wet foods were recalled.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Mar 21,2007 8:47am
carina and my babies we never spoiled with wet food. I refused to feed it to them and when she bought some (cause it was free) I almost flipped!

toggletoggle post by hungtableed at Mar 21,2007 8:58am
this is only from wet food right? None of my cats eat wet food. Two of them get the $1 MB shit and the other gets the $25 Hills from the vet.

toggletoggle post by succubus  at Mar 21,2007 8:58am
i spoil them with treats and they don't like wet food so thank goodness!
haha

toggletoggle post by MarkFuckingRichards  at Mar 21,2007 9:04am
my family has never given a pet wet food, so we're in the clear, although it scared the shit out of me when i heard eukanuba was one of the brands recalled (we use the dry eukanuba).

toggletoggle post by Kinslayer at Mar 21,2007 9:07am
I only give my cats wet food when I get a free sample in my bag of dry food hahah...it's like a treat for them. I buy my cats Purina Indoor Formula and that brand wasnt recalled...

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at Mar 21,2007 9:09am
ya its even in the high end foods like Iams, eukanuba....etc aas well as the cheaper stuff.
Its the wheat gluten that was contaminated.
My cat is at the vet now, and the only way to know if hes fucked, is to spend 80 bucks on bloodwork, and 50 to do it.

toggletoggle post by HailAtWork at Mar 21,2007 10:27am
Iams was high end 10-15 years ago, then a different company took it over and it's now shit they sell in supermarkets. I wouldn't feed Iams to anything. I have a 16 1/2 year old cat who's had CRF (Chronic Renal Failure) for about 2 years, so if it's caught early enough it can be treated, but her disease is from natural aging, I don't know how much they can do for an animal that has kidney failure due to poisoning.

we had one.. well still do.. but growing up.. just call him fatty b/c he's like 25 lbs.. but he's a big stupid lazy teddy bear... although one time he brought home a 1/2 chewed baby rabbit and left it on the front step.. which was pretty gross but impressive none the less..

Hey man, good luck with the cat. If that happened to me i would be fucking ripshit.

Maine coons fucking rule. Love those things.

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at Mar 21,2007 1:57pm
Well, just talked to the vet, and my cat needs to be put down.
He has 15x the normal kidney levels of a healthy cat, yet they cant/wont confirm it IS in fact from the poisoned food.
I AM ripshit.
Now I have to tell my 2 daughters that their 1 1/2 year old cat needs to be killed.
Yeah, thats fucking great news.

I want confirmation on the food, so I can pursue that in the future.

shit.
Sorry to hear the news man, losing pets sucks nuts. I wonder how many cats/dogs nationwide (or in the affected area) will end up dying because of this?

toggletoggle post by RichHorror  at Mar 21,2007 5:06pm
I'm guessing a lot. I know people in California who had to toss out their pet food because it was on the list. If there's any justice the companies involved will get raped in prison.

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at Mar 22,2007 12:21pm
Well, The gub says that pets are 'personal property' so no financial gain may be had from this.
My ? is, if they are personal property, then tell me why I can goto fucking JAIL if I throw it down a flight of stairs !?

Would I goto jail if I threw my guitar down the stairs? No.
So now they have created a double standard.

I am not going to rest on this. I wont make it my lifes fucking mission or anything, and be a crazy 'pet rights activist', but I will see to at least being heard along with 100's of other pet owners that have lost their pet to this.

(yes 100's maybe even 1000's by the end of the month.)
I read a lot last night on this, and man, lemme tell ya, some people are WAY more pissed off and serious about it than I.
And I dont blame them one bit.

I listened to my female cat, who reared and raised him since he was a 6 week old kitten, like a Mother, cry for him at 2 am, once the lights were off and she realized he still wasnt there.

It made me wanna puke.

toggletoggle post by RichHorror  at Mar 22,2007 12:35pm

that is sad as fuck. :(

That's fucking lame. I would think that even if they did just view a cat as personal property thatg they'd still be held liable and have to pay your vet bills, I mean, if I bought some Pine Sol that had something in it that made my coffee table rot and you could prove that's what it was, I would expect a new coffee table from the Pine Sol company.

You're right about the double standard though. We don't need to turn this into another animal rights thread, but I think getting pets should be a lot more like adoption than shopping. If you got poisoned baby food for your adopted baby and it died, well, this would be very different.

Sorry about your cat, losing pets sucks, but I can only imagine how much more it sucks when you have kids.

Pets aren't personal fucking property, they're family members. You can't "own" another living creature, that's some twisted thinking right there, probably how slavery started. Imagine if this was baby food, and the government saying "babies are personal property". Fuck that. Sue the assholes.

I think so -- I found the carcass and it was pretty gored. From what I understand, coyotes don't really leave anything behind, but Fishers do.

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at Mar 22,2007 3:05pm
Ya man, I know a guy that watched his housecat get his neck snapped right in front of him, by a fischer, then the thing flings the corpse, and charges the guy standing behind the front door.

Said that if he wasnt currently moving out of the house, the storm window wouldnt have been in, the fucking fischer wouldve jumped right thru the fucking screen in the attack. but it bounced off, turned around, and walked away, without even taking the housecats corpse for food.

Those things are no joke.

I just read up on the company responsible for the recall also does cruel animal testing. This is so fucked up.

toggletoggle post by HailAtWork at Mar 22,2007 6:04pm
I can't believe that's legal...let's torture and kill animals as part of our product testing! What kind of sick fucked up people thought that was a good idea? Probably the same people who test drugs on poor people, U.S. soldiers, and prision inmates.

Right here. I know how much most RttPers love their pets, but their pets aren't the ones used in testing.

Well I wasn't neccessarily thinking "scumbags" but yes. The general attitude when animal abuse/testing or any animal rights issue comes up seems to be "fuck animals that aren't my pets."

Because animals have almost no rights. Hence the reason why people are trying to get the name pet owner to legally be changed to 'pet guardian' so the possibility of animals having more right as living things can be possible.
