My volume pot is being retarted and cutting out and shit on me, does anyone know where I can get a cheap replacement? I think it uses 25k pots or something.

What kindof guitar is it going in? That will dictate if you need a long shaft pot or a split shaft pot.

Yea, you need a 25k, but it's possible your pots fine, maybe one of the sodlder joints is just cold. I'd try rewiring that pot before buying a new one.

If you do haveto buy one, I would go with guitarpartsdepot.com who sell all EMG accessories. If you dont' like ordering stuff offline, just go to any guitar repair or parts store and ask for a 25k pot. should run you between 5 and 10 bucks.

So Niccolai split shaft just means shorter?

toggletoggle post by Niccolai   at Feb 26,2007 2:35pm
yes ma'am. I believe so.

The long shaft pots are for thicker archtops like older gibson Les Pauls, and the split shaft are for most standard routed guitars.

i hate active pick-ups. they sound all tinny and are way too much of a pain in the ass for something with no bottom end.

EMG 85s have a fair amount of low end...

they only have a good amount of low end when put at neck pick up. they've done nothing for me at the bridge.

85s have far to much low end IMO.

What active pickups other then EMGs do you have experience with that you've have problems hearing the low end?

What other active pickups are there?

seymore duncan makes a couple active pickups too. i have only had experience with emg81 and 85. I've also experienced active bass pick ups, which again... where's the fuckin' bottom end?

hmm on that site the kerry king set is $230 i got mine for $150... oh and i got my pickups to work it just took some patience thanks for your advise.

I have no idea where the "no low end" comment is coming from. What are you using for an amp? My ESP has an 81 in the bridge and my Iban-had has a 60 in the bridge. I use a Line 6 Flextone II HD through 2 matching Line 6 cabs and I really can't see how I could possibly need any more "chunk".
