King was immediately interested when J.J. Abrams and Damon Lindelof inquired about working on Tower. King asked the duo to option the rights to the film. The pair asked King how much the rights would cost. When the Tower author mentioned $19, the deal was made.

They must ruin all good books by turning them into movies

toggletoggle post by dreadkill  at Feb 26,2007 12:07am
$19 is pretty cheap

toggletoggle post by Agrippa at Feb 26,2007 12:09am
Theres no way in hell they can fit that series into one movie

toggletoggle post by boine at Feb 26,2007 12:15am
its gotta be a series, i thought it cant be done too much shit going on in the books and the $19 is just because he is an asshole and it was important number in the book, but they cant do Flagg he plays too many characters in that series.

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at Feb 26,2007 1:22am
This is already done in a tv show called Lost.
Abrhams has basically paralleled DT.

toggletoggle post by boine at Feb 26,2007 1:46am
never watched it, what has he ripped off

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at Feb 26,2007 2:52am
Theres tons of parallels between lost and DT
Adam and Eve/Desmond Pene...Locke, Walt, Vincent all directly taken from DT.

toggletoggle post by FuckIsMySignature at Feb 26,2007 9:04am
I think its safe to say that the movie will in fact ruin the book(s). Although I am interested in seeing how much effort they put into it. Man, so much important shit is gonna be left out.

toggletoggle post by y_ddraig_goch  at Feb 26,2007 10:05am
only if demon's and wizards does the soundtrack

toggletoggle post by FuckIsMySignature at Feb 26,2007 10:13am
Which actors do you think would do the best job playing the characters? This will probably be a made for tv movie series so it'll most likely be Rob Lowe plus a bunch of unknowns... but ideally who would do the best job?

toggletoggle post by boine at Feb 26,2007 12:24pm
you cant cast flagg he plays how many diffrent people in the story it wont even began to make sense

how many books are in the series, 7? they should make a movie for each book, like lord of the rings, although the lord of the rings movies cut out a shitload of shit from the books.

im digging it as well, i was fully expecting to be disapointed by either shitty artwork or stupid writing, but judging by the first issue its going to be decent.

there doing like 6 series of them too, he even mentioned doing the stand in comic form but that first comic was surprisingly good

toggletoggle post by Yeti at Feb 26,2007 3:19pm
i'm weary about anything Dark Tower related. there is just so much story to tell, and none of it should be left out.

toggletoggle post by boine at Feb 26,2007 3:21pm
the comics are covering from book 4 to book 1 when he was younger, then he wants to do all the other books, he just wants to completely kill it

here ya go. issue #2 comes out in 2 or 3 weeks.

toggletoggle post by FuckIsMySignature at Mar 26,2007 8:50am
Started reading the new comic ... on issue #2 right now. Seems like they are getting most of the details from the books but the writing is a bit subpar. Wizard and Glass was my least favorite book though but I cant wait to see how they portray Eddie and the violent NY shit in the later issues.

toggletoggle post by anonymous at Mar 26,2007 12:17pm
I need issue #2. I keep putting off my purchase...

toggletoggle post by Burnsy nli at Mar 26,2007 12:27pm
oh man... i was thinking about the prospect of making the dark tower into a movie but i mean... even a 4 hour movie wouldn't give the series justice.

toggletoggle post by FuckIsMySignature at Mar 26,2007 12:47pm
when does issue #3 come out?

you'd need a four hour movie just to get into The Wastelands.

toggletoggle post by boine at Mar 26,2007 12:58pm
its gonna be 6 or 7 movies it has to be or it just wouldnt work

Peter Jackson should direct with Clive Owen as Roland and Gary Oldman as Randall Flagg.

toggletoggle post by boine at Mar 26,2007 1:14pm
i want to know is Flagg and Walter gonna be played by different people or they gonna like digitally alter his face when he is one or the other

toggletoggle post by FuckIsMySignature at Mar 26,2007 1:21pm
he'll probably be shrouded or shadow his face in both circumstances

ha that might work better now that you mention it.

toggletoggle post by babyshaker nli at Mar 26,2007 1:57pm
hell ya it would be have you not seen "david lee roth's backyard bbq" cinematic gold right there brother

toggletoggle post by DUG_nli_again at Mar 26,2007 4:13pm
JJ Abrams is a solid director. I've heard that because of the length it might be a TV mini series. But I am hoping maybe it'll land on HBO if so.

toggletoggle post by VoidExpression  at Mar 26,2007 7:53pm
This has been rumored for a while, and it does seem to be lean ing toward a TV series a la The Stand. Guy Pearce in his "Proposition" getup and a little aging would make an outstanding Roland, no doubt, and Gary Oldman would be great as Walter/Flagg. The problem is going to be Jake and Oy. Adolescents ruin movies (though King projects have made it work before) and a CGI bumbler is always going to look terrible.

toggletoggle post by boine at Mar 26,2007 9:01pm
they should leave it be, its too much info for a movie

toggletoggle post by retzam at Mar 26,2007 9:16pm
I've never read these books. I have a copy of the first one I've been meaning to read.

toggletoggle post by yummy at Mar 26,2007 9:19pm
I used to love the dark towers books when I was a kid along with any other Stephen King books. I'm not a pessimist by nature but I don't expect this to be that great.

toggletoggle post by Burnsy nli at Mar 26,2007 9:43pm
if the movies were really well budgeted, this could actually be really fucking good. i can't wait to see Mia walking naked down the street hahaha.

I think that wierd kid from the Omen remake would be a good Jake. As for Oy, his character will probably be ruined with some low budget CGI garbage. But it remains to be seen, as better technology becomes cheaper and more available quicker and quicker these days.

toggletoggle post by boine at Mar 26,2007 10:43pm
ya like all those demon rape scenes how they gonna do those never mind explain some the crazy characters like Mordred when he is half spider half human

Finally out today. Going tonight with my bro to check it out. The reviews seem very bad but I'm going in with low expectations and hoping to be surprised. Should be worth it at least for references and some closure to waiting for this fucking movie to come out for so long.

Anyone else going to check it out?

Not even close to surprising. "But it's a continuation of the cycle!" Fuck off. A visual representation of the series could only be served by an HBO-esque style show, and then probably not even. Just leave it alone.

I am standing by my opinion that it was neither good nor bad... it just was.

But ya, it kinda sucked.
