it was at mojitos. the screen, famous, and the grey davies. GD are pop, but the others are rock with solos I guess.

I walked into mojitos and the dude was confused as to what I was looking for. I guess the show was moved to the DBH. the guys was like "well, the band is here now, you want to meet them?"
I said "what band?"
he said "famous"
I said "no, I'll just see them at the show"

gray davies, the: carina would like these guys. There is a touch of interpol to what they do. A touch of the pixies and galaxie 500. This would speak to any one that used to listen to or watch 120 minutes in the 90s MTV line-up. It's basically music like that with updated themes to the music, like mention of cellphones. During 120 minute's hay day, the only people using cellphones was rich wall street types and zack morris. nothing like holding a briefcase sized phone to your head. The singer some times sounded like david byrne and others, just another whiney rocker. it was low key and pretty good. This is probably something I wouldn't mind listening to on the radio.

fuck you. that band is 50% pure gold. the song "snow is falling" is on par with the velvet undeground's heroine. it's like 7+ minutes of snowy bliss.

famous: *screams* I wish I met them at the meet n greet at los mojitos. All the dudes in the band look familiar. The singer looked like he could be the new singer for it dies today. They sound sort of like ozzy's solo stuff or that 70's sounding rock that (i think it's him) the singer of sound garden's doing. There was actually a lot of what they did that sounded sound garden-ish, but played more 70s. Eh, also a little bit like jawbox/breaker. At some point the singer used an acustic guitar, but played it through an effects pedal. Weird. they were pretty tight even in the parts where the singer was just wanking off on the guitar in the front of the stage. The singer must have been in CSDO at some point, he was making masturbation jokes.

screen, the: well, the guitar player, bob, I've known for 14-15 years. I think the same length of time I've known Dan dyingmuse, but I was better friends with bob in high school. After seeing his first band in highschool, he gave me a CD of the screen like 5 years ago. It was ok... A little too tool worship for my tastes, but Bob's a ripping guitar player (check the acustic guitar on shroud of bereavement's first CD). I was figuring that some day I would catch his band... some day. Finally, I figured this would be the day. I was really happy to find that it got moved from the mojitos $7-drink dance club to the DBH. I was even more happy to hear that they changed their sound. The vocals still had that tool sound in some parts. The bassist had an absolutely beautiful bass. It was almost sad to watch him play the top two strings 90% of the time. From what people told me, I thought all the songs were just going to be a flat bed for bob to tare up solos over, but they turned out not to be. Both the singer/guitarist and bob had tons of pedals that did stuff I'm guessing in front of them and the singer did a lot of the leads. Bob played rhythym and most of the major solos. I can honestly not remember what incubus sounds like, but I remeber that what someone explained their sounds was sadly mistaken. I think that if I were to envision the music in my head for incubus after someone describe them to me, it would sound like the screen.
