if anyone knows of anyone giving away puppies or selling them cheap (not from breeders or a pet store though), let me know. we want a mutt, preferably a yellow lab mix. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Go to the frickin pound! Plenty of dogs need adopting!

toggletoggle post by MarkFuckingRichards  at Dec 22,2006 1:39pm
that may be an option. we just don't want to get a dog that we have no history of; we adopted an abused dog a looong time ago and it wasn't exactly the most pleasant experience.

toggletoggle post by anthony at Dec 22,2006 1:42pm
That's a good point, but lots have people have really positive adoption experiences. I would at least swing by the shelter and see what they have.

toggletoggle post by MarkFuckingRichards  at Dec 22,2006 1:45pm
i have to find out where the nearest one even is. i still live in the middle of nowhere, so i gotta do some research.

toggletoggle post by FuckIsMySignature at Dec 22,2006 1:55pm
i wish i could trade in my roommates cat for a puppy. that thing annoys the piss out of me.

toggletoggle post by HailAtWork at Dec 22,2006 2:02pm
definately go to a shelter, those animals are always in desperate need of a good home.

checkout craigslist.com - if you're not familiar with this it's basically e-bay but with a free stuff section. people give away litters etc. on there all the time.

oops, that's big.

toggletoggle post by MarkFuckingRichards  at Dec 22,2006 5:06pm
fuckin a, i completely forgot about craigslist. i'll definitely check there, since i go there like 4 times a day on average, haha.

i guess we're leaning more towards a golden retriever now, fullbred or mix. i wish i could get a pitbull or some other terrier, but we have a few other regular pitbull and terrier mixes that visit our house frequently, so that could cause some problems, haha

toggletoggle post by thegreatspaldino   at Dec 22,2006 5:30pm
get a welsh corgi... most adorable dogs ever

toggletoggle post by MarkFuckingRichards  at Dec 22,2006 5:34pm
welsh corgis rule. the thing that sucks is that this will be the family dog, so it has to be something everyone agrees on. i want a pitbull mix or a terrier like the one in the RCA commercials, but my parents want to stick with a retriever/lab mix. i just want all the puppies in the world. except poodles, pomeranians, and any other tiny shit monster.

toggletoggle post by MarkFuckingRichards  at Dec 23,2006 2:47am
drew, i actually suggested a rodesian, but it seems the rest of my family are set on getting a golden retriever/yellow lab or something mix.

i'll definitely check out the quincy animal shelter, mess. thank ya.

I like cats and all but fuckin dogs are way cooler. dogs have way more personality, i used to have a beagle/black lab mix who is buried in my back yard (rip) she was the sweetest dog ever.

toggletoggle post by MarkFuckingRichards  at Dec 23,2006 3:13am
there are very few cats that i like. i'm allergic to them so i can't really be around them anyway, so it doesn't matter. having a dog is a staple in my life. we just had to put down my dog maggie last saturday due to cancer in her intestines, spleen and lymphnodes (sp?), and some pretty fucked up other shit that was caused by the cancer :( my mom is having her cremated and put in a box. it's gonna be creepy.

toggletoggle post by hungtableed at Dec 23,2006 3:17am
we totally had to put our beagle/lab down she was 14/15 it was the shittiest day ever

toggletoggle post by MarkFuckingRichards  at Dec 23,2006 3:19am
i know how that feels; 14 or 15 is a pretty good age though, since a lot of dogs don't live that long. maggie JUST turned 8 on dec. 5th, and it really came out of nowhere. she started getting a little sick, then a little over a week later she had to be put down. since i tend to like dogs more than people, it was probably the worst thing i've ever had to deal with

toggletoggle post by hungtableed at Dec 23,2006 3:22am

my gf's trying to get a french bulldog, they kinda look like bats

toggletoggle post by MarkFuckingRichards  at Dec 23,2006 3:24am
haha, i told my girlfriend that if she wants kids, i get 3 puppies per child. it's the only way it can work.

toggletoggle post by Messerschmitt at Dec 23,2006 6:11am
it's 5:00am on a saturday morning and i heard something rumbling out in the living room. it was my fucking mut going through some chocolate (which can kill dogs). so i just had to induce vomiting. 1 tsp of hydrogen peroxide per 10 lbs of body weight is the dosage. she started hurling chocolate everywhere. stupid fuck.

toggletoggle post by MarkFuckingRichards  at Dec 23,2006 11:52am
haha, damn dogs. my dog always liked going through the trash. maybe she was really a goat. for some strange reason she had an affinity to used q-tips.

toggletoggle post by KeithMutiny  at Dec 23,2006 11:53am
my dog just fucks everything

toggletoggle post by thegreatspaldino   at Dec 23,2006 11:56am
plastic bottles are no match for my cocker spaniel/chow mix.

the best was the time one of my friends, who is about 5"1, maybe 120lbs, was standing in the kitchen and my full grown black lab came across the room and knocked him to the ground and started going off on him. he was yelling and all i could do was hysterically laugh, to the point where i thought i was gonna pass out.

toggletoggle post by MarkFuckingRichards  at Dec 23,2006 12:04pm
during the last game of the world series that the red sox won, my girlfriend and i went over my cousin bill's house to watch the game. we brought her dog, jagermeister (who oddly enough looks like the jagermeister deer). bill kept getting him excited and played with him, then gave him a little beer that spilled on the table. within like 5 minutes jager was just staring bill down from across the room. bill looked at him and said "what?" jager growled, assumed pouncing position, and lunged onto bill's back, humping him violently. bill shouted and tried to shoo him off but jager kept growling, nipping at his hands and literally punching bill in the back of the head. i think it was probably the greatest thing i've ever seen a dog do.

theres always that one shelter in hyannis too if ya feel like going there. theres also some sort of a shelter type thing that i drive by on the way to mass art from 93 where they got all the dogs in a big fenced off area during the day. I'm gonna stop in there some day and play with them

my girlfriend just told me she had a dream last night that she walked into a room where i was hysterically laughing as i was ripping limbs from the two dogs in her family. a rotty and a yorkie. she said i then grabbed my dog and was about to get started on her but then she woke up.

i told her it would have been much better if they were people instead of dogs.

DO NOT GET A PUPPY.

if you work all day please DO NOT GET ONE. I went through the pains of wanting a pup so bad when i got her i was in UTTER HELL for 4 months straight! If you do have someone that can watch the pup during the time you are away then fine. Training was key. Its EXTREAMLY hard to train a pup if you are not around much (I'm gone 10hrs a day M-F).

If no one is around please go out and adopt a 1.5yr old dog. You will thank me later.

I bought a european german shep last year and it was utter hell. i had to beg my parents to stay at my house to watch her and potty train her. i don't know how many times i wanted to give her back to the breeder. i spent a good HUGE chunk of change on her. I didn't give up and am so glad I did not. I did have to take her to speciality training which also costed an arm and a leg but she is extreamly obedient today. will not do anything out of turn.

just remember vet bills are a bitch. for the first two months i was spending about $200 each visit.

and to all that laugh at Cesar Millan, better watch his show as it really does work. be a pack leader and not a sucker!

good luck

i thank you for the advice old school, but i'll be working from home for the next 4 months, and it's a family dog anyway so i won't be the only one around to help train it. i helped train my last dog and my girlfriend's dog. it's a lot of work, but i know what i'm getting myself into. our house feels empty without a dog since we just put our dog to sleep 2 saturdays ago, so it'll be very theraputic for us to raise another dog which we see as another member of the family rather than just a pet. we're also very careful when it comes down to choosing which dog is best for us, so we won't have any problems that we don't already expect.
