I don't know if it is out yet, looks more like it is based on the Innsmouth tale then the Cthulu tale, but whatever!

I found this on youtube. It looks even better. This is exactly what I want in a lovecraft film, enough that I just ordered the DVD.

I just saw this trailer and I flipped. It is a silent black and white with orchestra music, made to look like it is from the 30's.

Take a look: The Call of Cthulhu

Looks much better, that's the kinda stuff I want to film, really cheap, classic look, interesting story.

I hate how all the fanboys have to say stuff like "they can't film lovecraft's work wah wah wah, Cthulu was lime green, not forest green, wah wah wah "

call of cthulhu is fucking phenomenal. Has the feel of the old F.W. Murnau movies of the 1920's. Almost any Lovecraft movie is very welcome in my books.

unless you are a lovecraft nerd, who bitches at every artistic interpretation of literary works..which there are many.

I love books, but I don't all bitchy like half the fan boys when a director comes out with his take on the work, after all a director is an artist and not a scientist who seeks to clone paper onto film.

It really urks me to see all the comments on any of the Lovecraft trailers on youtube

"wahhhh wahh Lovecraft wouldn't have sex in the film!!"

You'd get a giggle reading some of them.

the comments are fucking ridiculous on youtube about the trailer. Yeah it might not look like a Cthulhu based movie, but it could be decent. I'll defenitly check it out, even with Tori Spelling.

I shit on that movie.

Lovecraft's stories never translate well onto film. In the Mouth of Madness is the best, but it's only Lovecraftian inspired.

I'm betting that the b+w silent movie (Call of Cthulhu) will do well translating over to film. The Tori Spelling color movie (Cthulhu) is probably Lovecraft in name only.....

I wonder if Brenda and Andrea are "deep old ones" ....

by the way. the correct spelling is Cthuhlu....thank you.

toggletoggle post by kinslayer at Dec 24,2006 6:17pm
actually looks pretty weak.

There are a few movies that translated reasonably well to film like Dagon to name ann example. The best Lovecraftian film adaptations are contained on the DVD collections of the Lovecraft Film Festival entries.

Holy shit. I got the Call of Cthulhu movie and watched it. It is absolutely amazing. It is a perfect example of what filmakers shoud do with Lovecraft.

This is the silent B+W movie with musical score. Not the color film with Tori Spelling. It was made by the Lovecraft Historical Society. Get this. Get it now. It is fucking great.
