I haven't seen The Business in several years, either. They used to play in my hometown a lot back in the mid to late 90's, and there were always these two little kids there who absolutely loved them. They were probably about 8-10 years old.

At one show, The Business brought one of the kids on stage to tell off some skinhead who punched his friend in the face. It was hilarious... some 10 year old flipping the bird and yelling, "Go fuck yourself, you nazi piece of shit!"

tommy and the terrors: I've been trying to see these guys again after totally missing them at the bruiser's reunion. Though, I don't know how well they would go off on a bigstage. On this stage, it was perfect. This has set the prefect begining to a perfect night of pinkrock. beer was even spilt all over the floor on the first note. a lot of the way the singer sang reminded me of minor threat. This reminds me of how the rock used to be when I started listening to it.

spitzz: this band's got some relation to showcase showdown. What it is, I don't know. From the GS's webpage, I clicked to a sight that had those two bands as options. They music was retro-ish punk. Like PIL and circle jerks mixed with the rock-i-ness of the crash. The singer's voice kept straying between the bunds of all those bansd.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Nov 9,2006 11:45pm
dead end boys: they started off with a bunch of oi songs. "Oi" this and "oi" that. the singer was pretty drunk and couldn't really talk on stage at first. After a few songs, he cleared his head and they were realy good. I can't remember the last oi-band that I saw. Not a very popular style these days. The people in the crowd spazzed around on the floor. A lot of people fell on the spilt beer that was slowly turning the floor into an iceskating rink. At the end of the set, there was a huge sing-along with the singer coming down on the ground and having people just around/on him. This proved to be a bit much and he booted on both sides of the monitors. This didn't help with the floor getting slicker. But in true drunk-punk/oi fashion, he got back up on stage and did one more song.
after the set, one of the staff came to sop up the beer swill. he only got 1/2 of it. what a terrible part to a probably nice jorb.

Apparently it's a big crybaby issue if I make mention of a show I went to 8 years ago. So I'll just stick to talking about last night

I'm listening to the Dead End Boys cd right now. It kills. It was my first time seeing them. They did a great job with that Cocksparrer cover, and the Blitz cover was even better.

The Business are fucking 700 years old and they're still a ridiculously tight live band. I was blown away. They had Harry May listed as the last song on their set list, but they played Saturday's Heros instead because some skinhead dude was begging for it. I would have rather heard Harry May but it was a cool move nonetheless.

That's funny about them being tight...

I saw them once at the Karma club where they were so drunk they spent 5-10 minutes in between each song making fun of each other and falling down. The songs came out ok, but in a bit more than an hour long set I think they made it through 6 songs top. Real great job for a headlining band.

But I saw them a few years before at Lupos and they were indeed tight as hell, that was a great gig! Anyone remember the name of that tour? Like a million old punk bands played.

Speaking of beerzone, anyone remember that show at the gym in Southie that Beerzone, Blood for Blood, and (shudder) DKM played at? That was pretty intense.

At the risk of sounding "old school" (whatever that's supposed to mean), I was at that show. I was actually telling the Rev about that last night. I remember in the middle of their set they thought the bass broke. So they spent 10 minutes fucking around looking for another bass, and laughing about it until the bass player finally stumbled up to the mic and said "Oh, I see, gotta turn it on. ROIGHT THEN!" and they all died laughing over it. They also played a whole song while the singer had some little girl in a headlock. Classic.

Fuck those idiots that bemoan the "old school" - if you were there, you were there. 8 years ago isn't even old school, so whoever is talking shit is either a troll or retarded.

Did you ever see Cock Sparrer at Karma? That was a good show... "mad old school"

And who was that death metal band that played before The Business that night? I remember there was no pit, not even anyone on the floor really, and some dude just started walking around punching and kicking whoever was down there... I got hit trying to watch that band but I still think they were pretty good.

If we're talking about the same show All Out War played before the Business

Yea, that is who I was talking about. Although, I had remembered them being heavier and more metal, just checked it out online and it sounded more like generic Sepultura. Maybe my poor memory, that was a long time ago.

Exactly, 8 years is not old school. Your whore mother is old school. The pathetic idealism that your band is going to make it and doesn't suck is even more old school. Me acting like I was 25 again and beating your ass would be mondo old school.

Hey, what the fuck are you still doing here? Didn't I tell you to go fuck your mother?

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Nov 15,2006 11:03pm
you're angry cause you live in your moms basement still. I know I know, she lives with you, but you still live in the basement.

business, the: during their set, someone came up to me and said, and I'm not kidding about this "my girlfriend looks like kirsten dunst. Take a picture!" I just shook my head and kept shooting the band. Let's see... It was a fun show. xmikex played microphone police for one of the dudes. I saw George who was drunk and in the pit. I saw a bunch of people fall forward and he grabbed a boob. Bet he didn't even know he did it. The music was great. Old school punk. Sing-along-able and catchy as hell. This is from back when punk was fun. I thought that their set would be a touch longer, but it was hot and sweaty by then. Drinking and driving ended their set.
