no gallows? wtf! I have a meeting at 5:30, but I plan to head over to this show.

toggletoggle post by mcmahon  at Sep 20,2006 9:25am
cool. i'm not sure what happened to gallows. I went with what the DBH had listed.

we haven't had a show in a while, so we got an ITCH that needs scratchin. probably play a few new ones too.

Gallows are indeed playing. I spoke with the promoter for this last night, she said gallows will be playing last due to scheduling conflicts. If you get there by 9 tonight you will be sure not to miss anyone.
Good times!!!
We are also going to play a new song, the first song of our set....
This is going to be a fun night for sure.

I'm pretty sure, based on voting, the standings were:
1st - The Network ($50 and advance to the next round - October 8th)
2nd - NeverSayNever
3rd - Gallows
4th - Burn the Children

Great show, thanks aaron.

awesome pics, rev. you are definitely the king of the mid-headbang shot!

congrats to the_network, should be interesting at the tattoo fest 'cause they're probably head and shoulders above the rest in terms of heaviness and the extreme.

gallows also did awesome, i was impressed. would love to see 'em with their 2nd guitarist.

burn the children, good performance, but not sure if the 'fuck you' attitude was some sort of 'showmanship'. it's not gonna get many people on your side, especially at a place like the dbh where everyone just wants to be friendly and get drunk. give it your all and rock your asses off and people will support you.

"im very good friends with HOURCAST. They are going to go big soon!" hah, I luv dover.

network, the: this is the second time I've seen then since they recorded the new CD. The first time was in an american legion so, though awesome, I wasn't able to hear some of the changes. They played all of their old tracks, plus one new one. If you have heard all their demo tracks and 7" you heard all the songs they did except one, a new one. I'm assuming it will be one the new CD. One thing that is different is that pete's vocals changed when they recorded the pig portrait demo. You cane hear that he is yell/harsh talking instead of is maniac, undecernable scream before. I know on the PP track, it sounds like the mic is on overdrive. All the times that I could hear his vocals, that's what they sounded like. The new track definitely sounded like a network track, but there was some different guitar parts that kevin was doing. At some points, he looked like he was doing long division in his head. Even stainless Scott is pushing himself. With all the guest vocals, he is abusing his voice extra hard, dropping a nut on the low end of his vocals. There wasn't any bloody abuse during there set, but watching them makes think back to the rumors I head of this "insane band" that came out of no where and only played one show every. Anyhow, with all that, the sound guy didn't seem to know what to do with them and I thought the mix for them was terrible. must have been too much going to for the sound guy to get it right.

burn the children: they told the_network they were like BTBAM meetings alice in chains or something like that. I didn't really hear the BTBAM sound, but I think that they grungy 90's sound to a lot of their slower parts, but then they would go into a hard part. Grunge ver 2006? Maybe. I didn't get any additude from them. the singer talked to me after the show as I was leaving and he seemed really nice. their music was really tight, but it sounded a bit too much like tool for my tastes.

NeverSayNever: there was some Radio DJ talked before them.. He mention a lot of bands that I don't want to hear. Each time I see them, they remind me more of Dehumanized. I was thinking this when they brought out a new song. This song had a lot more riffage out of deicide than pantera. I don't think it was as "catchy" as their other songs, but it's musicially far superior. I guess they should just add some more "live free or die"s in to the song and people will be all about it. nearing the end of their set, they shouted out me. mcmahon even talked about the porno and encouraged the peoples there to joint the forum. I hope that doesn't increase my requests for angry hill or hourcast.

gallows: even without the second guitar player, they sounded a million times better than the last time I saw them. jeff had come in late from his job (dress rehearsal for a play). I was really happy to see them playing again. mike's vocals have gotten much better. it must me all those hits he's taken to the head from the bass. at one point he went back so that jeff could scream in to the mix and omar screamed into the mic on the bass cab.

We never said we sounded like BTBAM. We would never say something like that. And I believe we thanked all the bands and all the people for making it such a great show at the end of our set... So as far as the comment about our "fuck you" attitude goes, yes, we say negative things on stage but I usually assume that the audience in a 21+ club can handle a little profanity. If you supported us, then the fuck you was obviously not directed towards you.

oh there's no problem with the profanity or anything, i'm just saying in general when playing in front of a lot of people for the first time, people watch and try to figure out what you're all about, and personally it's a little of a turn off if bands get discouraged if people aren't totally into them right away and turn it into an 'us vs. them' type of thing. i totally respect what you guys do and support you, i'm just saying -- from the pov of someone who's played and attended a lot of shows -- that the best thing a band can do to attract people is just do what you do best and put on a good show. some people will dig it, some won't, that's just the way it goes. just trying to give a little insight to maybe help you guys be better received in the future!
