Paul Masdival & Sean Reinert, the two co-founding members of Cynic have a new band call Aeon Spoke, its progressive rock i guess, Paul's music and voice remind me of the soundtrack of Seventh Heaven, they recently got signed to SPV records, debut album comes out in October, check 'em out at www.myspace.com/aeonspoke.

Tony Choy (Atheist, Pestilence), this dude is an awesome bass player, literally fucking sick, joined a latin band called Area 305 in 1998 this band plays happy dance music which is used in latin clubs and bars, i dont know how to describe 'em, good thing Atheist reunited and called Tony if he wanted to play, he of course said yes.

Legendary Fat Crippled Jew Jason Suecof. From Red Tide and Groundzero to Trivium and Chimaira. Nigga eats rice pudding.

I don't think so. Every Primus interview I've read Possessed is referenced in a positive light.

He doesn't, I actually met him just before the possessed reissues came out and talked to him about it and he was psyched they were coming out and was amazed that people still cared about it.

how about that band sentenced? I heard they used to be heavy metal but went to like nu metal/butt rock

how about amorphis
how about Katatonia

well maybe the last two just when from heavy to gothic rock but whatever

Celtic Frost, and the feeble return to heavier shit does not redeem the bullshit that was Vanity Nemesis or Cold Lake.

Drummer from Anal Blast to Slipknot?

toggletoggle post by thegreatspaldino   at Aug 29,2006 4:32pm
the huge vocalist from AB said that the drummer and bassist wasnt in the band very long or something... so they arent even worth mentioning as being in the band at one point.

"... literally fucking sick..."

1. This reminds me of a David Cross routine
2. So you mean he was "literally" sick of fucking? Sick from fucking?

toggletoggle post by sphincter at Aug 29,2006 7:46pm
or kelly s from atheist joining neurotica. it dies today their first ep was great. Even lacuna coil b4 comalies came out they were a magnificant goth metal band similar to tristania or the gathering. O and the gathering started off as death metal, then went downhill

THE GATHERING ...Always is a great CD.

Masdival and Reinert didnt really impress me with Aeon Spoke. Surprising, because I know they are unparalleled musicians.

it's not like you said "panultimate" and you meant "ultimate" and you're off by one. the only way to fuck up the word "literally" is to say exactly the opposite of what it means.

Anything by The Gathering is great, but they definitely went for more commercial pastures.

Original lead guitar player for Living Sacrifice is now in P.O.D. and the lead from the metalcore albums (also in Soul Embraced (borderline gay anyway) and Shredded Corpse) is in Evanescence. Those make me sad.

i can't listen to the new evanescence. it's just crap to me.

NOT SO IN 1990s

Alex Skolnick is playing jazz in the Alex Skolnick Trio.

toggletoggle post by E at Aug 30,2006 9:02am
Tony Choy, I remember talking to him back in 1993 at a show down in FL when I lived there. Very cool dude. Very good bass player. He plays by ear and is pretty damn amazing.

Paul and Sean are also cool but i don't know if they are a couple !!?!??!?!? but anyway great muisicians and hung out with them in 1994 when I moved to MASS. At some diner in Hadley on RT 9. it was really cool. down to earth people. but the religious beliefs of Masvidal turned me off. he's spacy with his elephant shirt on. hahahahahahah its a shame they got booed at that show. should have never paired them up with cannibal.

Tony Choy was great, met him when he played with Pestilence.

I would hardly call that commercial music. His trio is really cool and do metal covers.

toggletoggle post by DrinkHardThrashHard  at Aug 30,2006 9:55am
I think it's great that metal musicians play other genres of music too, whatever it takes to sate those creative urges. I know I'd hate to be pigeonholed into one genre of music.

toggletoggle post by E at Aug 30,2006 9:59am
yes true, its cool to see metal musicians "out of their box" doing different styles and hopfully showing another side of their talent. that boy band tony choy was in was um, well not for me. I did see a pic of him in a tux with some band and he was playing bass on a ship it looked like. some kid was on a cruise and saw him and took his pic. doesn't even look like the same person today. i remember him with ultra curly long hair and thrashin like mad in Pestilence! Testimony was the best death metal album, well was on of the best...

toggletoggle post by DrinkHardThrashHard  at Aug 30,2006 10:02am
It's also not a good idea to put these guys in a corner. A lot of them, like Skolnik, were jazz musicians BEFORE they took an interest in metal, so technically, he's a jazz guy who played metal on the side, not the other way around.

toggletoggle post by 666 at Aug 30,2006 10:09am
In a recent interview Kelly Shaefer said they're putting together a new band with members of Cynic and Atheist, its gonna have a sound of technical death metal he said, my guess is gonna be Paul and Sean.

toggletoggle post by Yeti at Aug 30,2006 10:38am
Susperia did that. there latest work was radio garbage with death style drumming.

i agree with anthony. how is jazz more commercial? metal is way more commercial and popular right now than jazz. look at all the metalcore bands burning up the charts these days. where is jazz on the charts?

toggletoggle post by anonymous at Aug 30,2006 4:31pm
JAZZ music is probably one of the most respected music i can think of. sure it doesn't appeal to many but damn man, you watch a jazz guitarist i have to bow down to them and give them much respect. they could outplay any Dragonfraud guitarist anytime!
