toggletoggle post by ShadowSD  at Jul 31,2006 2:30pm
Wow, I'm actually glad I'm not going this year. I would watch Black Label Society to see Zakk rip, I'm curious about Dragonforce because I've never heard them before, and I'd like to see Lacuna Coil, but aside from that I have ZERO interest in seeing any of the bands on this fest aside from Ozzy. And I'm not sitting through Hatebreed, Avenge Sevenfold, an hour of Disturbed, and an HOUR PLUS of System of Down Syndome to watch Ozzy play again, even if it's pristine weather. A shitload of heat, humidity, and rain just reinforce to me that I'm making the right choice not seeking lawn seats in the seventh muddy circle of hell.

That's how much I paid the year before last, they were good sized bottles but in that heat they weren't enough.

I didn't buy any water last year, I just took a friends empty bottle and filled it all day in the bathroom. Gross, but I'm all set with blacking out. The beer was $8.00...

Fuck Ozzfest, I'm glad I've never paid to go.

do they really start at 9 a.m.? who the fuck would go to a show that early?

and judging by that entire lineup, Strapping Young Lad, Between the Buried and Me and The Red Chord should be headlining.

what a conglomeration of shit this fest has become (aside from the aforementioned bands and maybe Walls of Jericho).

I'm not shitting you, System of a Down apparantely HEADLINED the main stage with a two hour set, as if they thought they could pull off what Iron Maiden did last year. Enjoy your overpriced ticket for crap.

im sure this wont apply to them since theyre superstar press but basically were either gonna be in a tent or in the photopit.

also that you cant go to the photopit or leave the photopit without an escort.

also that if you plan on walking around the venue that you need to leave your camera with either an escort back at the tent or ozzfest promotion people.

i just dont like the idea of 105' weather and then having to be babysat while covering a fest im not really excited about going to.

DOOMRIDERS/COLISIUM/LANDMINE MARATHON at Great Scott's which is less then a 5min walk for me. thank you very much !

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Aug 1,2006 11:26am
one of the BLS dudes was one stage talking in between bands. He didn't have time to say much cause the set change overs were 5 minutes. At this point of the morning, I'm baking under a media tent on the scolding hot tar. I'm really not happy that I ate that egg sammich this morning. Ugh!

walls of jericho: thankfully, after waiting for passes to be sorted out, we were able to get in. Their set sounded awesome. It's a bit odd seeing them up, so far from the crowd. But they got the crowd going. I was happy cause they played "playing soilder again" which is probably my favorite WOJ song.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Aug 1,2006 12:08pm
full blown chaos: it's awesome to see these guys doing so well. Great dudes. Though with all the huge tours they've gotten on lately, I think it's funny that they weren't later in the day. Granted, next year at this time, they could be opening the mainstage. Ray shouted out buckhunter (all but the drummer were on the side of the stage), of course nate the war came out and sang for a minute with them.

bad acid trip: I'm not sure if the singer was trying too hard, but he had an Anal Cunt shirt on and shouted out el duce. They very weird music. Some of the parts were good, but then they would do things that just sounded like they were trying to be weird. I don't know. In the end, the singer dropped down behind the subs on the floor and used his hand like a duck to talk over them.

I need something to do man!

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Aug 1,2006 12:36pm
makes sense I guess.

a life once lost: it seemed like they got a really long set. Their songs are longer too which made the photo-taking better. the crowd surfing basically started during their set. the singer ran around, but seemed a little subdued due to the heat maybe? This is practice for dragonforce. I was a little amazed that they didn't play any of their moshuggah stuff. But then again that just gets kids to smoke dope, not mosh it up. They ended with the singer's PSA "smoke dope.." stoner pause "... Everyday"

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Aug 1,2006 1:43pm
all that remains: awe... Right after sending a song out to the ladies with a shoker held high, phil gat me the finger. What love. It'll probably be on lambgoat. They once again had the same drummer as the one on the CD. For those of you who've given the CD a chance, you know that that is a very good thing. One odd addition on stage was their new bass player. Jeanne, ex-light is the language. I'm pretty sure that she's friends with all of them so I hope she sticks with them.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Aug 1,2006 3:35pm
red chord, the: this was songs from the same set they've been playing for a while. No ones newer than the newest CD. Nate johnson again hopped up on the mic just as I was leaving the photopit. This is their hometurf, but I hope they are getting the same action level at their shows on the rest of the tour. People went crazy for them. Candace (WOJ) came out for 1/2 a song. Then they did dreaming in dog years and guy hoped down to the crowd. Security was pulling back all sorts of kids who were converging over guy.

strapping young lad: I shot them.. No wait.. I lied... right? I sorted out details about photographing them tomorrow in maine. But I digress. their set was the normal bout of "you suck", "you fucking sucks", and "we fucking suck so suck our tiny canadian dicks". the only thing is it's really had to tell most of their newer songs apart. The singer for a life once lost came out and yelled "YOU SUCK" a few times. once I was off the side of the stage, I was just listening to the music and it sounded awesome. I must admit, I will miss the hilarity of their live set, having more devin townsend band stuff will rule.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Aug 1,2006 5:55pm
gr.. there are no monster drinks for free in the back.

norma jean: they sounded good, but no one came out for memphis. The new singer and the singer for the chariot do a lot of the same things on stage with the mic stand. Must be something with the music. They had a second drummer on stage too.

bleeding through: they came out to an intro. The bassplayer had a wicked beard going on. It looked painted on. Their first 3 songs were really long. Made me happy with the picture taking time. brendan went into the crowd almost immediately. I was starting to lose faith that pople would at that point too.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Aug 1,2006 6:35pm
unearth: I heard them starting up and ran to the front of the stage. Snapping pictures and then out of the blue, I get my face humped by ken susi. I had no clue what I was suppose to be doing be, but he did all the work and it was all covered by all of the photographers. About 2 minutes into their set, either I or the guy beside me stepped on a hose that was sitting on the ground. It went straight up into my leg and my D2X. The camera was fine. Thankfully the water almost evaporated on contract. Now, this beging their home town, the end of their set was special. carina and I got pulled up onto the stage by Unearth's roady. he asked us what publications we worked for and if we wanted good shows. Ken and Buzz start tossing their cabs around and then at the very end, they smash their guitars on the stage. I took a ton of pictures from the stage.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Aug 1,2006 7:16pm
atreyu: whoah.. The singer's definitly got a personal trainer going on. I'm not a fan any more, but they had a lot of energy on stage. For the most part, this band looks to be the same dudes, but the music has changed to be a lot more main-stream.

black label society: they had a screen drop down with the the BLS logo on it. hail the leaf was one of the peeps collecting up the curtain. when it dropped, they were there playing... Well... I say "they", but honestly the bassplayer wasn't there. It was a much smaller dude. I'm not a BLS fan, but zack kicks on the guitar. They had something with a llot of beachballs, but I didn't get to see that.

at this point, they were like 30 minutes ahead at this point, but it was time to take off for the mainstage.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Aug 1,2006 7:23pm
dragonforce: actually, they were pretty awesome. Even in the heat, they jumped a lot. The lighting was hopefully awesome too. Compared to the set at NEMHF, it was really really well lit. The first 3 songs they played were all ones that I knew from the CD and were all pretty damn long. For the first song, the singer seemed really preoccupied with the monitor situation. By the 2nd song, I guess it was worked out cause he got back into it with the other people in the band.

i dont even know why I went. btbam were already playing when they were letting people in, they played all new shit, walls of jericho were on to early, red chord sounded heavy as fuck but sounded like shit as well, syl were good, the rest sucked besides unearth. then there was like three-five hrs of horrible...........ozzy played like 7 songs........i got sunburned pretty good even with applying sunscreen like every ten minutes..............decent time but way to fucking hot. Oh well, I should have known. But it was something to do, I guess.

dragonforce play so shitty it was mind boggling. their singer constantly missed notes, and their guitar players made way way to many mistakes.

for a band that tries to act like they are the greatest thing ever, they certainly do play like shit live.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Aug 2,2006 12:36am
the singer was very off at this show.
the guitar players weren't IMHO.

toggletoggle post by Cecchini   at Aug 2,2006 12:39am
the 2nd song had some terrible train wreck from the guitar players. there was a part where a chord rang out and it sounded like one of them was a half step below. then during through the fire and flame song, the intro had a ton of wrong notes towards the end and one guitar player kept falling behind and mucked up his fills.... i was way the frig up on the lawn so i couldnt see who did what.

P.S. Carina, I want to see the pics you got of me in the crowd at the second stage

lacuna coil: it was the typically lacuna coil set. They hammed it up a tiny bit for the camera. A bit of levity was delivered by a heckler yelling "fuck you" from the crowd. I'm sure they took it in stride. That's all part of being a professional. I guess the guys got pulled out.

hatebreed: ok... I'll be honest, I kept looking for the thumb. they didn't take too long to get up on stage. Once they did, they went right into a series of quick songs. They announced that they were going to have a new CD out on roadrunner in um.. I think it was september. I wonder why universal didn't keep them. that universal CD was played everywhere.

avenged sevenfold: wtf!?! Their first 2 songs were really good. It was like iron maiden. I'm sort of in awe. The voice was almost perfectly a number of the beast era maiden rip off. They were only missing the guitar leads. what happend to them being the gayest thing since sliced bread and they come out like some huge metal band. they even had cat-walks and levels like the maiden stage. I was told they ended with walk, but I don't know. I heard it went into another one of their songs that make girls cry.

do a7x actually sound like maiden on the new CD? if so I might check it out judt for that.

disturbed: their first song started of sounding like some epic metal band you would catch from the people in station's future (bill&ted's reference). After some posing and cat walk work, they made me say "oh, that's what nu-metal sounds like live." needless to say, I was just focusing on the pictures and trying not to let's the music distact me with it sheer amazingnessouscity and buckets of emotions and powah. Anthem of a million walmart shoppers here. Why you might ask? Cause ma and pa bedded down in the back of a chevy listen to this bitching shit.

system of a down: probably one of the worst thins I've seen live. There was no ignoring it. They had no stage presents either and sort of just posed around the stage. So lame and so gay was the sopecticale that they unleashed, I've coined and new word, glame. They were so glame. From what a little bird told me, they all hate each other and just want to get this f'n tour done. they had flashing lights that made me wonder how many doods faked epilepse to get out of there.

I thought they were pretty good and I'll be the first to admit on this board that I like the new cd. The guitar work is awesome once you get past the vocals. I was very suprised when they covered "Walk" seriously it was as perfect as you can get. If you closed your eyes while listening to walk you wouldn't be able to tell if it was Pantera or Avenged Sevenfold it was that dead on.

I've seen System of a Down a bunch of times before and this was by far their worst performance/set I've ever seen. They used to put on such a good live show but it seemed like they were flat out lazy. The vocals were COMPLETELY out of key, guitars sounded like shit, they stood around on stage doing basically nothing, and they were talking about rediculous things; something about if Jesus was alive corperations would try and cash in on his cruxifiction or whatever. It seems like Serge is no longer the lead vocals now to the guitarist who needs to kind of shut his mouth when it's not necessary to sing, Serge used to do alot of screaming and running around on stage but it seemed like they just don't care anymore. I was looking forward to them and I was very disappointed.

No and I seriously wish that fucking band would play "Creating Something Out Of Nothing, Only To Destroy It" off of "Bless the Martyr and Kiss the Child". I bet the place would explode during the "Like bringing a knife to a gun fight" breakdown. IMO that song should be a staple even if it is 6+ minutes long.

Joseph Rinaldi, 42, of Cranston, R.I., was released after posting $860 bail after his arraignment in Attleboro District Court on Wednesday.

Police arrested Rinaldi at the Tweeter Center Tuesday night after a woman alleged he grabbed underneath her skirt on the front walkway leading to the parking lots.

She and a friend were walking back to their tour bus at the time.
