How long have you been a vegetarian? And when you made the conversion did it affect your body drastically no longer eating meats??

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jul 1,2006 10:56pm
I went off gradually, cutting out different things.
veal=4th grade
red meat = 7/8
and then pork in highschool.
in college, I ate chicken a handful of times, but then just stopped.

I haven't noticed anything negative. granted the passed couple months I've broken 3-4 teeth on nothing.

nowadays, its so easy. just eat health and don't fall into the frenchfry deit trap.

toggletoggle post by thedeparted   at Jul 1,2006 11:38pm
why did you want to go vegetarian rev, just out of curiosity, i think you said because of having to kill the animals yourself or something, right?

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jul 2,2006 2:57am
veal was cause my mom told me what it was and then we drove across the US one summer. on the ride through the north, we saw the veal holder.

red meat was based on a bet with my BFF. we were on a women and children outing and we made a bet to see who could go the longest without eating redmeat.
that went all through highschool and college. I think It was sometime after college that he got stuck in europe and was forced to break it. nothing like a bet for no prize that goes on for over 10 years.

You have got to eat red meat! It clears the skin right up! The doctor says just once a month, it really helps!

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jul 2,2006 3:12am
so turkey dogs and turkeyburger. I grew up on a farm. pigs, chickens, turkeys, etc. we used to have to kill them (turkeys) or get the butcher to come do it. I was pretty much weened from most meat at this point (except the twice a year chicken finger or chicken sandwich). I moved lived in a "crunchy"ish dorm at school so at school it was 100% easy. it just followed me home. then one time at home I have to snap the neck of a little retarded turkey to put it out of it's misery. at that point, I was like "im out" and my 4 years of eating meat (chicken) only twice a year ended. that was 8+ years ago. I just realized that I wasn't able to kill animals any more myself. if I wasn't able to slaughter them, I shouldn't be able to eat them. people can do what they want, but I believe if you are physicaly able to go pick a chicken, chop it's head off, pluck it, gut it, cook it, and eat it, you shouldn't be able to get a $2.89 breast at shaw's.

clears the skin right up? what's wrong with my skin?

I forgot to say that the first meat I gave up was seafood. when I was a little kid, I went fishing just about every single weekend all year long. I would always gut the fish myself and play with the fish heads.. after the age of like 5-7 I stopped liking fish AT ALL.

the only fish I eat is one particular peach fish.

I'd been on-and-off vegetarian for about 8 years. I stopped eating pimpsteaks aka hot dogs at least ten years ago and red meat and pork soon followed (the OTHER Rev - that being Farrakhan- frowns on the swine). Just when it looked like I'd be done with the chicken, along would come General Tso and fuck my game up. And then there was that one drunken night in Jersey after the Black Sabbath / Pantera show when T-Bell had just introduced the chicken baja gordita which seemed like a brilliant idea at the time). What REALLY sealed the deal for me was about four years ago, I was between jobs and my uncle - who works in the anatomy dept. at the UCONN health center, where the med students get their dissect-on - took some pity on me and gave me a nice under-the-table paying job with him. So for a couple months, I would take routine inventory on cadavers (in various states of dissection), box up post-dissection cadavers and take them to the crematory, amongst other things. It was here that I saw just how close we resemble dark-meat chicken/turkey/pork and that was that. And THEN there was the six-foot-tall band-saw in his embalming area / "office" with what looked like dried jerky littered about.

Niccolai, I'm not working with my uncle any more, but my younger brother is. PM me and we can negotiate outside of the public's prying eyes

if you ask the rev's mom she'd tell you a different story than the rev's twice a yr chicken fingers consumption..apparently it wasn't as easy as he leads us to believe for him

for me..i tried i high school but then i'd break down and my mom would make something with meat and it would smell sooo good so i'd eat it. despite being italian, my parents helped me be a vegetarian..my dad went so far as to buy me veggie dogs and brugers..but man they tasted HORRIBLE..and my mom would cook things separately for me without meat...there were meat foods that i loved though..so i'd break down eventually...
then i met aaron and he made things easier by cooking yummy veggie things and us going out to eat in veggie places. also the veggie foods you can buy in the grocery store got a lot better and soo many more options.
since i've been with aaron i've been "Good" except for 3 times that i can think of: with his family and i was at a work party at the top of the hub and it was filet mignon

I LOVE how whenever a dude stops eating meat, AT LEAST one of his friends will make a big deal of it and be like "Oh, you don't eat meat - you're a fag." or some other scholarly revelation. I've had at least three friends give me a pretty consistent amount of shit over the years, getting legitimately BUTTHURT about whether or not i put meat in my mouth.

toggletoggle post by niccolai   at Jul 2,2006 12:32pm edited Jul 2,2006 12:33pm
Isn't it funny? The guy that doesn't want meet in his mouth is the fag.
