We're called Guenhyvar and we're looking for any shows (preferably in MA). I guess you could call us prog-death, comparable to Opeth (and we'll probably get a lot of shit for it too, but oh well).

http://www.myspace.com/guenhyvar

We have one song up, what most of us consider to be our least impressive and most Opeth sounding (it was written like 3 years ago), but we think it's good, and pretty soon there will be more up. Currently we can manage about a 35-40 minute set (less is fine of course). Looking for any show, despite what the other bands sound like, but we most likely need to know the date at least 2 weeks in advance due to conflicting work schedules.

You are named after Drizzt Do'Urden's figurine of wondrous power?

Classy.

Hahaha I know little or nothing about the name. Our bassist Kevin read it in a Forgotten Realms novel I think. Isn't it some mystical cat beast or something? I think it's also an alternate spelling of the name Guenivere or however you spell King Arthur's lady, but we just pronounce it phonetically.

Yep, Forgotten Realms. It is a figurine of wondrous power which transforms into a black panther to aid the dark elf Drizzt Do'Urden.

I do believe it is derived from the name Guenivere, there are many spellings of that.

Drizzt Do'Urden's the dark elf?

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jun 25,2006 4:38pm
I sound have read it all before posting. dark elves are incredible cruel. this was part of the dragonlance books and is the only set I read.
one day, I was walking through the nashua mall (not even the pheasent lane mind you) and the author of the dark elf saga was there at a table. super guido.

Dragonlance is set in Krynn. Not the same world, though there are dark elves in Krynn too.

Dark Elf Saga is a part of Forgotten Realms.

Dark Sun is an entirely different world too, with cannibal halflings. Brutal.

Hahaha shit I really need to read these books.

toggletoggle post by DrinkHardThrashHard  at Jun 25,2006 5:50pm
Well, the original Dark Elf Trilogy was decent, but most of the Dragonlance and Forgotten Realms book suck a fat one. I wouldn't waste my time, there are much better fantasy writers out there (China Mieville, George RR Martin) who don't have much to do with D&D.

Yeah, see that's what I thought. I thought Forgotten Realms was mostly like, pulp fiction you know? And then I thought I had it all wrong when you started talking about it. I won't bother then. Haha. But, since we're on the topic of fantasy novels, have you read any of the Wheel Of Time series? I have the first one but I havn't read it yet. I've heard people rave about them and they seem to be the most popular modern fantasy novels based on the year and a half I worked at Barnes and Noble, but I have also heard that Jordan completely sucks and that it's just like any other pulp fantasy nonsense. Any thoughts?

Wheel of Time is the literary equivalent of a gasbag. Far too drawn out, and the characters gain godlike abilities meaning basically, it's not much fun to read since you know how everything will turn out. Don't bother.

George RR Martin "A Song of Ice and Fire" is far more popular and I'm willing to bet sells more at Barnes and Nobles. Much more down to earth, and even though these books are long too, they are amazing page turners.

The books out so far are:

Game of Thrones
Clash of Kings
Storm of Swords
Feast for Crows

Thanks man. Like I said I already bought the first one, so I'll probably read that one anyway eventually, but thanks for saving me money on buying the next 3 or something and realizing they aren't that good. I can't say Martin's name sounds familiar, but I looked online and I definitely recognize some of those covers, so although I can't say for sure how many I rung out in my 1.5 year stay at the store, most likely they were pretty popular if I recognize them.

And for all others reading this, my band's still looking for shows, the sole purpose of this thread hasn't changed to discussing fantasy literature, although it has proved to be a nice way to keep the thread bumped, and it is an appropriate topic considering my band's lyrics.

Are we not able to edit posts anymore? Anyway, I'm bumping this, 'cause we're still looking for shows and we have another song up (although the recording is a bit sloppy). I'd like to reiterate that it would be great if we know 2 weeks in advance: if so we can pretty much definitely play, but we had to give up a show we were offered that we really wanted to play (the Lilypad with Sexcrement and Animal Rampage July 2nd) because we knew only a week in advance and our bassist couldn't get the day off of work. But as long as we know 2 weeks in advance we can almost definitely play, no matter the date, time, genre of other bands, whatever. We need shows!

Did you? I didn't get it. Do you mean the friend request?

Hmmm, I sent one through RTTP yesterday. I'll hit you up through Myspace.

Sweet, I got that one man, just sent you a message back.

Ba ba bump?

I don't know what the deal is but I can't edit my posts on this thread. I can on other threads of mine, but not this one... Anyway, I wish I could edit the first post because I forgot to mention a very important piece of information. The drumset we rehearse with is not available for concert use, so if anyone wants us to play a show, we have to use someone else's drumset. I know, it sucks, but... yeah, that's about it.
