someone said that punch shattered his orbital bone (outer eye socket bone). I think I would cry too.

this is from his wikipedia site:
"Despite losing his first fight by disqualification, Sapp was initially successful in K-1. He twice defeated four-time K-1 champion Ernesto Hoost by technical knockout. Sapp's initial success with his intimidating, blind chase-and-punch method slowly petered out into disqualifications for bullrushing and punching after referee breaks. Additionally, experienced opponents discovered Sapp's weak points—his weak chin and legs. In what marked the beginning of his K-1 decline, Sapp was knocked out by Croatian Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic in 86 seconds at the March 30, 2003, Saitama event. After Filipovic landed several solid kicks to his sides and legs, an overhand left broke Sapp's orbital bone."

Eh, everyone has their day with these matches, because it's real fighting. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the guys cry out in pain, but they never publicize that.

Sapp gets props for appearing in a Takashi Miike film.

Fedor would turn that tall freak into a pile of goo with one punch.
Theres a big difference in being big and jacked, than being a GREAT fighter.
Size has nothing to do with it.

And your Undertaker comment is laughable.

The Undertaker lost, because his script advised him to do so.

Also, just because wrestling is fake, does not by any means imply that WWE and other pro wrestlers (who do it for show) are weak. As fake as it is, you still have to take a pretty heavy beating and know what you are doing.

toggletoggle post by SteveOTB   at Jun 12,2006 3:56pm
I wouldn't say wrestling is fake, that's real blood, those are real chairs, and those wrestlers really get hurt. Granted the matches are planed and it is scripted but seriously if there was no type of story or anything for the matches I think it would get pretty boring and some of these matches wouldn't even have a build up to them.

Being Large sized means he suffers a -1 to his Armor Class, -1 to his attacks, but does get a +4 Grappling bonus and Reach.

This is not Bob Sapp's first loss. Won't be the last.

The -1 to his AC comes from the fact he is Large sized, and an easier target to hit. Humans do not normally receive a natural armor bonus, regardless of how muscled they are. You can purchase a Feat to gain natural armor, but Bob Sapp must have used his supply up.

Some of them were one before the other, too, we can't forget that.

I've always noticed that most cage, Pride, or mixed-martial arts fights that I watch, seem to be settled by how quickly you can apply your finishing hold. Ground and pound mayhem. That's why they are so quick, and very rarely do you see a fighter in those leagues with an outstanding, durable record, because so many are equally matched in talent, physique and technique.

I wish Bas Rutten would fight some more.

cage fighters have awesome stamina but usually tire out quicker because the fights are more strenuous than wrestling matches...but you gotta figure the wrestlers do matches that last a half hour and they do all sorts of crazy flips and shit throughout the whole thing

I think stamina-wise they are all pretty well matched, cage fights are shorter but more strenuous since it's an actual fight, whereas wrestlers showboat for long periods of time, but are doing a lot of carefully staged moves.

Fighting-wise, cage fighters would probably kick their ass though. They're not there to look good or be flashy.

Wrestlers are trained to do flashy gymnastics for 10 minute stretches at a time. They are well tuned, well trained athletes.

That said, they spend little to NO time learning how to beat the fuck out of people. This is why when all the drama flashy gimmicks are set aside, not a single one of those assmonkeys could take Kurt Angle or Ken Shamrock in a fight.

Except Seargent Slaughter, of course.

True, but pro MMA fighters are trained to fight up to 25 minute matches, with intense cardio punishment, and must be guarded against stiking, grappling/submission and the "puncher's chance" that some no-name is going to ring their bell out of nowhere.

Pro wrestlers can technically be called atheletes, true, but most pro wrestlers who actually have an MMA background (i.e. Kazushi Sakuraba, Ken Shamrock) can adapt to pro wrestling without even the slightest bit of effort, while in most cases, pro wrestlers-turned-MMA-fighters (i.e. Dos Caras Jr.) end up getting crushed seconds into their first real MMA bout (i.e. Cro Cop kicking the aforementioned Dos Caras Jr. upside the head so hard he split his scalp open even though it was hidden beneath a wrestling mask.)

Are pro wrestlers atheletes? Sure, but are they even close to being comparable to a mixed martial artist? Fuck no.

Just as a note: Bob Sapp was the Japanese K-1 Grand Prix champion in 2005, by the way, so although he's not exactly the most graceful or measured MMA fighter, he sure as hell gets the job done. Also, he beat Ernesto Hoost, who beat Cro Cop THREE times. It's not the fighters' history, it's all in the fight at hand, so you never know.

MMA fighters can certainly kick pro wrestlin' ass.

No bullshit.

Ground.
Pound.
Break.

That's what I love about it...

Also, I must admit MMA has a great overall level of sportsmanship. These guys all know that they can kick each others' asses, even the good ones know they could lose on the drop of a dime if they aren't paying attention to even a low-ranking fighter. So there is this great level of respect.

Listen there is absolutly nothing gay about grappling if I knock your ass out you will probably be fine 20 mins later if I dislocate or break your arm or choke you out that's something mentally that sticks and the pain last much longer physically and egotistically.

The entire film consists of a samurai coming back from the dead and cutting his way through various scenes, people, and time periods, and that is it! But there is one scene in which he faces off against Sapp, who is playing a giant monk, complete with the bead necklace. It's fucking hilarious.

Iwouldnt especially call bobby sapp a pussy.... but I think his size and physique add to his popularity, rather than fighting skill.
I am not a huge Sapp fan.
Goodridge would HOUSE him.

n/m Fedor

Sapp is like a Michael Clarke Duncan that can fight a little.

toggletoggle post by DrinkHardThrashHard  at Jun 13,2006 4:53pm
Hahah, I don't know how he can even hold that controller. Maybe an XBOX controller...

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at Jun 13,2006 4:53pm

I would love to make a living letting Japanese corporations make light of me, but I'm afraid I have no viable gimmick.

that video wasn't that impressive actually...he's not that accurate with his hands he's pretty much flailing wildly

he'd be much mroe devastating if the threw punches wiht his weight behind them as opposed to just relying on his strength

Niccolai(?) Valuev

Exactly.
Hes got no skill.

Oh definitely, he's just a big lug that starts peppering you with blows, unfortunately he's such a big lug that means he can hurt you with those blows. Or just pick you up and throw you somewhere painful.

The thing with Sapp is, he's got the personality so he just makes most of his dough off appearances. He probably doesn't give two shits about his record, as long as he gets paid and doesn't get broken too hard.

What a tool.
I asked some peeps on sherdog what the deal was with the mask, and they say in Mexico, its some luta Livre shit, that you MUST wear the mask for honor or some garbage like that. GHEY.

toggletoggle post by pam   at Jun 13,2006 5:27pm
Yeah the Mexican mask is all important to them. Cro-Cop was smirking about it in his pre-fight interview. He's so awesome.

I don't think I have seen Fedor's teeth...can't be any worse than Takayama's grill...eeeesh

This is very true my friend. And I must agree to disagree Sylvia will win cause he slimmed down and gotten much faster but either way I get these things every month so any of you HCN dudes are welcome to come to Lowell for a party with the BMR crew.
