I'd like to propose I have the most annoying co worker ever. His name is Jim. He's a big fat guy with no mobility, or work ethic whatsoever. He goes to ridiculous lengths to avoid work, but goes to even more ridiculous lengths to score free food. If you're doing a job with him he'll come up with an excuse to leave the room, or stir up a conversation with someone just long enough for you to finish the job. On top of that he insists he's employee of the decade and everyone owes him everything.

He wanders around the office trying to strike up conversations with everyone. Only the conversations aren't actual conversations. It's you sitting there while he tells you some annecdote about how smart he is, or all these made up connections he has in the government, or how the CIA wanted to recruit him. He leans over my shoulder while I'm on the internet and starts bugging me about what I'm doing. One time he actually asked me about my band, and it ended up being a 30 minute one sided conversation about how he worked at a library in Gloucester. When he eats his "lunch" (he has 1 meal that he brings and eats in the office, he also leaves the office for an hour for "lunch" and snacks all day long) he eats it 2 feet away from me facing the garbage can by my desk and narrating his whole meal.

he likes to come in just late enough to miss important jobs that require heavy lifting. when he comes in he tells his fairy tale excuses to everyone in the office individually and then feigns anger when he "realizes" he missed the big job we had to do. seriously it's "Hey you guys didn't do that job yet? [the job having been done for over an hour now]... DAMN! DAMN!!"

NOTE: I just had to stop typing this for 10 minutes because he sat himself down next to me for another stellar conversation. It started with him asking me about my Madball hat. Literally the next sentence was "My friends keep saying they're gonna knock me out and dress me up in one of those Star Trek uniforms...ya know in like Star Trek 2 - 6?"

One time he took a month off for medical leave for hurting himself "on the job." It turned out he hurt himself trying to bring a food platter back to the office.

One time he disappeared from the office for like 2 hours, and when my boss called him out on it he went around telling everyone he had diherrea (with all the details), and had to leave. He left work at like noon and called in sick the next day. Apparently he does this every time he gets in trouble for disappearing.

Every once in a while he'll get all gung ho and insist on doing a job that anyone else could be doing. Without fail it always turns out to be a job with a big food spread.

Today I had to do a job with him setting up this peice of equipment that he has like 8 years experience on me setting up. He couldn't do any of it, and I had to hold up one leg of it for him just so he could put the screws in. I had a whole leg assembled before he even finished with the 2nd screw. It took way too long because every time he's involved there ends up being 3 extra steps to everything. My supervisor finally showed up and we both looked like idiots for not having it done.

There's a billion more stories and I've only been here since March.

you just described to the T this asshole that hangs out in my circle of friends. same kind of personality, will sit and spew bullshit about how awesome he is and how the world owes him everything. he is a fat, arrogant waste of life who has earned NOTHING, but still has so much either from being a sniveling, silver spoon fed bitch, or from stealing it. he has a really cool, attractive girlfriend he stole from someone he called a best friend, and she waits on him hand and foot. he lives with his mom, has minimal bills, has a cushy life, but will still treat you like shit and then blame it on his "hard life" or his "difficult day". its so fucking bogus. he'll tell you a story about something you were there for, and completely distort it, then when you correct him BECAUSE YOU WERE THERE, he will flip and call you a piece of shit and that you are a scumbag and this and that. he doesnt do anything but expects everything in return. man do i fucking hate people.

He's on the phone with his wife now, of course sitting right next to me. He calls his wife like 5 times a day. It's none of my business but it just irritates me because I have to listen to this now 15 minute long conversation involving him telling his wife what he ate today, what he wants to eat for dinner, and meals that, in general, he'd eventually like to eat.

How does this guy manage to keep his job? You must have the stupidest supervisor ever. Either that or the fat guy is really the owner of the damn company.

i work at a university. 2 words: red tape.

although if you ask him it's because he has all kinds of political connections. the kind of political connections that couldn't get him out of a parking ticket, which he complained about all day today.

That's not what I've heard from people that were there and someone that either kicked you or one of your friends in the head during the incident.

So yesterday we had a pretty decent sized job to do. I purposely told the guy I was busy until a certain time so I could start the job without him. I got a decent portion of it done when he finally made his way up there with an excuse as to why it took him so long. I left the room to do another job thinking he could keep working on it himself.

10 minutes later as I'm finishing up the other job I'm doing the guy tracks me down 11 fucking floors beneath where he should be just to tell me that we need something INSTEAD of just acting like an adult and getting it himself.

fast forward 15 minutes later. 3 of us are working on the job now, and his work ethic is steadily diminishing. I'm lifting some heavy ass speaker onto a stand while he waddles over to me with this tiny distributor amp and says to me "I think we should put this on the second shelf of the podium." I said ok. He waits another minute and says it again. Then proceeds to walk to the other side of the room to say the exact same thing to the other tech. 10 minutes later as the rest of us are working as fast as we can he invents a task for himself that involves him traveling another 11 floors out of the way to fetch a remote that would never be used.

then when 4 of us are working trying to finish the job up at the last minute he has the nerve to stand there, 3 feet from the power switch of a projector and say to me (while I'm in the middle of something) "This projector needs to be turned on." I actually had to drop what I was doing, get up, and power the thing while he walked around and did nothing.

Then as we're breaking down later that day I caught the guy taking a solid 5 minutes to wrap a 3 foot power strip. His comment at the end of all this: "Jesus, what a fucking day."
