I'm thinking about buying a house in NH. I've been thinking about keane, since it's cheap. Where are some other good spots I could check out? Where are you guys from?

toggletoggle post by mOe  at May 9,2006 10:23pm
Keene is a great little town, awesome THAI food

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at May 9,2006 10:27pm
keene.. try spelling it right first.
keene is $$$$

what are you looking for, what do you want around you?

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at May 9,2006 10:29pm
I'm from derry, lived in durham, and bought a place in portsmouth.
so I'm from the south central valley and the seacoast.

if you want to be close to boston or the shore or worcester or VT or nothing.. it all depends. I like the portsmouth area cause both maine and mass are right next door.

also, where are you going to be working?

toggletoggle post by Government_ Agent at May 9,2006 10:31pm
I live in Keene.. It sucks... dont move here

toggletoggle post by Troll at May 9,2006 10:31pm
If you want women with minimal dental and loose vaginas that like to leave a dip spit cock ring on your shaft then move up to northern NH. :-)

toggletoggle post by ArrowHead nli at May 9,2006 10:36pm
I want a nice house with a big assed finshed basement where I can jam, record, and make a fuckload of noise. I want a large pile of guns locked in the corner legally in said basement. Other than that, I'm not super picky. Being accessible to boston is nice, and being somewhere where I could meet and work with other musicians (the point of this thread) would also be nice.

I was looking at Keene because I saw a nice 4 bedroom with a garage, full basement, yard, etc.. in my price range. However, I have no idea what's there, near there etc..

For work, I could transfer within the chain I work at or just apply at one of our competitors. I've got a good resume, and I'm good at what I do. I have roommates/tenants that are coming with me, so I could probably afford to not work at all. (but that would be stupid.)

toggletoggle post by Government_ Agent at May 9,2006 10:40pm
You might get a good place now since college is out, but hurry cuz it wont be for soon.. my dad just barely rented a 2 bedroom apt for $1300 month w/o heat and h/w. So you gotta have some cashflow for a house here, not to mention the taxes here

toggletoggle post by mOe  at May 9,2006 10:40pm
Keene is..directly (20 min.) north of Rindge, which is 10 minutes from the MA border in any direction...so you'd be like 1:45 from boston i think...but Keene is a quiant little town...i think you'd only be an our south of Western MA....

toggletoggle post by Troll at May 9,2006 10:41pm
Basements are nice.....I keep midgets in my basement.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at May 9,2006 10:42pm
nothing is near keene... it's like 2 hours from portsmouth.
probably an hour from worcester.

if you want to be near anything, look in southern central.
windham $$, hudson, amherst, hollis, pelham, salem, hampstead, sandown, chester, derry $$, or auburn.
all of those places are like under an hour to boston. and a little over an hour to worcester plus have downtowns or shopping districts.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at May 9,2006 10:45pm
if you want, you can creep up towards the north, goftstown $$, bedford $$$, new boston $$$, candia, raymond $, deerfield (awesome state park), hookset.

toggletoggle post by LtdEc-1000  at May 9,2006 10:53pm
Deerfield is good, but theres absolutley nothing there besides hicks who like old cars and snowmobiles. same for candia. Hooksett sounds good for what you want. (guns, and noise and such)

toggletoggle post by pisscup at May 9,2006 10:54pm
Move to Northwood. It's the only place in the world that I've been that has a store that sells chinese food, rents videos, sells gas, food, cigarettes, porn, beer, and most importantly,,, BAIT. The great thing is that when you order chinese food, they refuse to respond to anything but the number on the menu. "WHAT NUMBHA???"

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at May 9,2006 10:59pm
there is nothing in deerfield and candia, but manch-vegas is 15-20 minutes away.

northwood is too $$$. it's all pricey lake side homes. that place is DEAD once the summer's over. it's got one or two stores and a place that sells granite slabs. it's 30-40 minutes from concord and 30-40 minutes from portsmouth.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at May 9,2006 11:00pm
you could look at londonderry.. but that will be $$$$$$$$$$.

toggletoggle post by pisscup at May 9,2006 11:02pm
I know some hippies who live off of the land in Northwood. I've never been there earlier than November.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at May 9,2006 11:04pm
makes perfect sense. that whole strip is squaters paradise.

toggletoggle post by ArrowHead nli at May 9,2006 11:13pm
How's newport?

http://www.century21.com/buy/property_deta...ty=Newport&State=NH&PriceMax=175000

That's a huge fucking house. Looks beat to hell, though.

toggletoggle post by ArrowHead nli at May 9,2006 11:21pm
All the stuff you list seems like nice neighborhoods, but too pricey for me. I'm looking more for the shitty neighborhoods that border the nice ones, so I'm still near the stores and such. I'm looking around 175,000.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at May 9,2006 11:23pm
yeah, that's what I was trying to tell you.
looks sandown, fremont, chester, danville.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at May 9,2006 11:23pm
hampstead and east hampstead.

toggletoggle post by Government_ Agent at May 9,2006 11:23pm
about 20 miles north of Keene.. About three times the Imbreeding rate though.

toggletoggle post by Government_ Agent at May 9,2006 11:24pm
Try looking in Swanzey or Westmoreland

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at May 9,2006 11:25pm
I had to look up newport.. since I've never even see the signs on the highway for it. jesus christ... there is NOTHING anywhere near there.
http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?searc...ess=&city=newport&state=nh&zipcode=

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at May 9,2006 11:27pm
if you are going to go to westmoreland, watch out for the floors and it's even farther from anything.. hell, why not look washington or something if you are going to go to westmoreland. atleast it's up farther on 202

toggletoggle post by KeithMutiny  at May 9,2006 11:28pm
id like to say, screw NH, thank you.

toggletoggle post by Government_ Agent at May 9,2006 11:40pm
Westy is still torn up from the floods this past fall, so real estate is pretty cheap!!!!

toggletoggle post by ArrowHead nli at May 9,2006 11:59pm
You said swanzey, what about North swanzey?

toggletoggle post by blue nli at May 10,2006 12:52am
swanzey is teh hick sticks, brosef.

manch vegas isnt a totally bad area. my singer tim just moved into his sick new house in goffstown. decent deal, too.

toggletoggle post by dwellingsickness at May 10,2006 1:00am
I would not live here if I had the $$$ to get the fuck outta this state

toggletoggle post by ArrowHead nli at May 10,2006 1:04am
Why not?

toggletoggle post by dwellingsickness at May 10,2006 4:49am
Well, NH has some of the worst healthcare in the US. And being disabled , that is one of the biggest issues for me

toggletoggle post by succubus  at May 10,2006 6:50am
i'm sorry to hear that Todd...that sucks..

I LOVE living in NH. Arrowhead, i know aaron listed everything as $$$$ but don't let that steer you away. All of his $$$ might not be accurate. I like that we live in portsmouth because as aaron said it's close to everything. I can get to portland maine within 45min, boston 1:15, worcester 1:20 and manchester is 45min. all those areas have airports too if you need to fly somewhere. Portsmouth is expensive and you won't get much land, but there are surrounding towns that are cheaper and there's a lot around, like restaurants, shopping, etc. Example: Seabrook (aaron will say it's a shitty town, but a friend of mine lives there because it's close and affordable and there's a lot around!) some areas aren't as nice, but there are a lot of nice looking areas.
Dover is a little cheaper than Portsmouth but still expensive..mind you, one town over is Somersworth. It's a "young" town in that there are a lot of young people that live there. Again, a lot of stuff around there.
Stratham nicer town than the first 2,,might be a ittle more $$$ but still reasonable. All near here and near everything, like the beach!

NH's alright...if you like fighting!

toggletoggle post by KeithMutiny  at May 10,2006 7:10am
fighting what? cows and invisible ninjas? fighting off your sister from raping you?

toggletoggle post by Troll at May 10,2006 12:00pm
I think he means "fighting the good fight"?!?!

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at May 10,2006 12:02pm
you see the "good fight" flags in greenfield trainer parks. someone needs to tell them the south is way to retarded to raise again

toggletoggle post by dwellingsickness at May 10,2006 12:07pm edited May 10,2006 12:08pm
haha ,Rev, What are you doing trolling greenfield trailer parks??

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at May 10,2006 12:38pm
driving to mt monadnock. and todd, if you had a tankchair, you wouldn't be complaining, you'd be out there!

toggletoggle post by dwellingsickness at May 10,2006 12:41pm edited May 10,2006 12:42pm
For the money, I could buy a sweet new car or van, Those tank chairs are ridiculously expensive, Insurance don't cover them either, they are not a necessary medical expense. I did however find a place in Manch that has them, and they said I could come try one out, haha

toggletoggle post by Morbid_Mike at May 10,2006 2:39pm
If you want to move to serial killer paradise in the middle of nowhere go to where I grew up Bradford right next to nothing bordered by a whole lotta....nothing.

toggletoggle post by SACAPAPADOO   at May 10,2006 3:36pm
move to manchvegas man theres always somthing to do weather its running from cops or running from angry black people youll never be bored and not to mention its pretty cheap. my buddie has a house 2 floors 3 bedrooms 2 baths and a finished basement and he pays like 1000 a month for everything

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at May 10,2006 3:53pm
Manch is pretty cheap comparitively.
Hooksett as well.
Concord and the seacoast are expensive.
The further North you go, the cheaper you get, by rule, but you also find less and less employment oppurtunity.
Good luck with your search, I think youll find you like NH, once you live here.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at May 10,2006 3:56pm

Phi Kap one of the frats here in Keene is for sale, because they lost all affiliation with the school, and no-one wants it now. Its right on the main drag thru the school. You could get so much ass there.. Like boy-band type of ass were talkin

Ha, I think that's one of the houses I was actually looking at. It said it was right near keene state, and used to house students. Pretty cheap, too.

Is there a lot of stuff near keene state, like wal-mart, home depot, shopping, etc...? Also, how is it trying to find musicians in the area?

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at May 10,2006 6:21pm
when college is in, you probably have your pick of people that want to cover dave matthews

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at May 10,2006 7:20pm
ArrowHead nli said:

since hoser and cooch moved to Maine, now theres 10. lol.

Ill jam with ya buddy.

Man....see what I mean? All the Massholes are migrating north. Even they know that their state sucks.

toggletoggle post by ArrowHead nli at May 10,2006 7:34pm
Amen, this state sucks.

All I want is a fucking basement. I pay $400 a month in ADDITION to my mortgage so I have somewhere to play my fucking drums. I can't afford a house here in MA, but in NH my $200,000 condo is the equivalent of a big assed house with a yard, basement, hookers in the attic, etc. Then the taxes are LOWER, my car insurance will be LOWER, and they'll even let me have a gun.

Live free or die, I'm fucking moving.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at May 10,2006 7:37pm
milford and merrimac too.
just tell us how far you want to be from whatever and I can tell yu were to look.

toggletoggle post by ArrowHead nli at May 10,2006 7:44pm
I really don't care what I'm near. As long as I'm less than an hour or two from boston, and am near civilization of some sort (shopping, walmart, groceries, home supplies, music store, porno, etc...) I'm fine.

I'm more worried about culture. I don't want to move into some toothless backwoods community, or retirement age neighborhood, etc... I'd like to be able to find musicians and be withing gigging distance of some clubs or major highways.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at May 10,2006 7:50pm
I think you should look in all the places that I've listed.
maybe kingston and epping too.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at May 10,2006 7:53pm
and what carina said

toggletoggle post by ArrowHead nli at May 10,2006 7:54pm
I've been checking em as I go. Found a few nice places. It's tough finding listings online, I'll probably need to take a vacation and come up to visit a realtor.

I am an insurance broker for a living....so I'll help you with that.

Newton, Plaistow, Kingston and Salem are pretty cool towns.... Just over the border of Haverhill, MA.

toggletoggle post by Y_Ddraig_Goch  at May 11,2006 12:50pm
Nashua is the place to be, manchester is about 30 minutes away, worcester about a hour, boston about 45 minutes. Plus Nashua is pretty populated in some parts and then all suburban in others

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at May 11,2006 12:52pm
nashua is $$$$.
I'm pretty sure it's the most expensive city to live in in NH. All of my family is from nashua. but the area is key, that's why I said
milford, hollis, amherst, merrimac, hudson. those towns are around Nashua.
