I had a photoshoot in the morning and so I ran in to catch sanctity..aaron has gotten all bands so far

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Apr 30,2006 12:40pm
kid deposit triumph: (mainstage) "huge metal fans, even though we don't sound like it" they were thrown on last minute, but played the pre-party. I could tell a lot easy what they were trying to do down here. They played tighter, but the mistakes they made were easier to here. I think it was the guitarist stage left not being able to hear. plus, the system down here was worked awesomely.

miles between, the: (secondstage) first band on that stage and they had people moving already, awesome. The sound in there was so clear. After seeing them at the living room and not being able to hear the guitars, I was so much better up here. I think fans of old with honor, and more metalcore kids could really get into them. The vocals are actually intelligible and the break downs are very clean, sort of like norma jeans (played mostly on the hi-hats with sporadic double bass). Ethan's label should think about taking them.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Apr 30,2006 12:41pm
sanctity: (mainstage) I was not expecting what I heard from them when they came out. They looked like it would be some black death band (i mean co'mon the guy had a bullet-strap), but they were melodic-ish. More like megadeth riffs that have been thought out. The singing was just good old school metal vocals. Sort of like motorhead/mustaine. No highs and pretty clean over all.

toggletoggle post by josh603 at Apr 30,2006 1:26pm
check out xlookingforwardx today. great great band

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Apr 30,2006 1:35pm
I will.

cellador: (secondstage) wow, they sounded so perfect. Well, up to the point when one of the guitarists said "co'mon make some nOYs" in a new york accent. Ha! They were the embodiment of priest and queensryche. There were even some samples that were played to fix the queensryche illusion

hypersolid: (mainstage) they sound more and more like nevermore each time I see them. This means that they sound more and more like old queensryche. The vocals on this stage was amazingly good and clear. The HI's were powerful and I'm guessing they were practicing a lot for the new CD they are putting out. The rest of the guys headbanged around the stage. the bassplayer, I always forget his name but I'm going to call him rob, looks like a octopus flinging his hair all around and over his bass.

They arent doing evening tickets like they usually do. I think if you show up, you just gotta pay the full 40 bucks.

No evening tickets on Sunday last year either.

next time I'm upstairs, I will look.

born victim: (secondstage) there weren't that many people up there in the beginning so the bassist went in to the crowd. This got more people moving. The singer followed after throwing and breaking the mic, spent most of the set on the floor. People were dancing around, but I honestly didn't know them.

withered: (mainstage) this band ruled. Noisey, blackmetaly, metaly, and awesomey. I think this is the band that drove from NC to play the library. Man, they need to send me a CD. The singer/guitarist stage right screamed and it reminded me of the really good parts of goatwhore. Check this band out everyone.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Apr 30,2006 2:57pm
xlooking forwardx: (secondstage) josh603, as I replied to you, they were starting upstairs. They are good. it's like if with honor never tried to be bane by releasing that last CD. This band would have fit in much better with the death threat crowd from yesterday. There were plenty of people watching them. But only one dancing. That is until they played their edge song. Then a few more people jumped up on the floor.

mercury switch: (mainstage) I've seen them so many times and had them on my show so I sang along to them. I don't know what else to type here except "hey, I think they made it two metalfests with the same bassist" but I'm probably wrong.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Apr 30,2006 2:58pm
phoenix mourning: (secondstage) sorry, but I was asked by metal blade and a few other people to take a shit ton of pictures of them so I did. The best part of this band is the bassist. I forgot to mention it from the pre-party, but he's one of the first bassists I've seen who strums the bass a lot. his hair is also expertly manicured from what I hear. At one point, the singer fell over the monitor and tumbled onto the ground. He kept on singing as the people (including their stage hand) picked him up. they played their last song and then stopped. The singer got everyone to move to the front and they played the last minute again. People, including the lovable and huggable Ken jumped up on the crowd.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Apr 30,2006 3:01pm
xdeathstarx: (mainstage) "the reason we have 4 singers is cause we aren't talented enough for one guy" they are in essense a wall of dudes singing. Complications from a mobile singer must 4-fold harder with them. I made fun of them for it in my hellfest review. Though, I mean. They could deligate roles so that one person is the guy that goes into the crowd, another jumps off the drumriser, etc.. They also said that the only reason they are here is dragonforce and that they are going into the studio to record a new CD.
"if there is no jesus, why fight against it? Think about it." and them asked us why we don't pick of other religions besides x-tianity. I'll tell you why:
1) there aren't x-tian groups beheading people
2) there aren't x-tian suicide bombers
3) we don't owe money to x-tians
and the final, trust one
4) the country we live in is a christian country. the money doesn't say "in jaweah we trust"

toggletoggle post by josh603 at Apr 30,2006 3:32pm
Yeah they aren't really too well known up here, sadly. Today is only the second time they've played in New England. They are playing at Drifters on June 25th, so check that out.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Apr 30,2006 3:34pm
maybe I will. this place is pretty empty so far.

goat horn: (secondstage) this is probably the most heavy metal thing I've ever seen upstairs at the palladium. If you heard godless rising (jeff was in the front), I will play this analogy: GR is to 90's metal as goat horn is to 80's heavy metal. Hair and headbanging rulage. There were a lot of the metalhead in here throwing horns up in the air.

inked in blood: (mainstage) the were tall dudes who made music that short dudes usually make (re: nora). The best part about their set was they didn't have a single bit of clean vocals. That was awesome.

doomriders: (secondstage) just as good playing as always. I got the feeling that they didn't really want to be playing there. Nate's in between band banter wasn't on par as usual. Still rocked, I've just seen them stealing shows before.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Apr 30,2006 3:38pm
no, there are no evening tickets tonight. regular price so come early.

A Love End Suicide: (mainstage) not to judge a book by it's cover, but I know what these guys would sound like before hearing them. I knew right from the name and it seems I'm dead on. The only thing I didn't think they would have was the noodling up on the fret board. I guess they are signed to metal blade. Heavy breakdowns, metal riffs and some clean singing.

3 : (secondstage) they are kind of like yakuza in the way that there are weird things going on stage/in the music, but it wrapped around metal (unlike yakuza which has a hardcore filling). They had two drummers. The standup one had some effects units too.

light this city: (mainstage) damn, I confuse them with another girl front band who suck. They were pretty awesome. That girls voice has the same range as the girl from the hound. Similar hair too. When I came down, I thought she was the singer of undying and maybe that's why undying broke up. Though.. She kind of looked like pam.. And pam hasn't shown up yet. Hmm... If pam magically appears after their set it will be suspicious indeed. I have their CD at the radio station and I'm actually going to listen to it.

toggletoggle post by slowlypeelingtheflesh   at Apr 30,2006 4:34pm
I heard a rumor that tunnel vision leads you to gay sex.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Apr 30,2006 4:42pm
you are the living enbodiment of said rule. gaysexsayswhat?

protest the hero: (mainstage) their CD is rediculos. The guitar parts are amazing, but then the clean vocals come out sounding more like emo. Their live set sounded more like judas priest. the amount of noodling that goes into one of ther songs is both confusing, interesting and annoying. I was wandering around durinf the end of their set. there weren't any people ANY WHERE else in the club. I thoug "sheez, this place is dead" and then when I walked down, I realize everyone was one the floor watching this band. (though some of the people were probably outside for one last fag before re-enter is done.)

yakuza: (secondstage) whoah! They have an akami like the_network. Wootage. last time I saw these guys was 2002. They had the usual fare on stage. For some reason the bassist had a gasmask on. I went up for a song or so. I'm into their harder material, but the middle eastern and jazz stuff isn't my thing.

toggletoggle post by slowlypeelingtheflesh   at Apr 30,2006 4:44pm
hahaha thanks aaron.

toggletoggle post by todayistheday nli at Apr 30,2006 5:14pm
the place is empty cause the lineup sucks today

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Apr 30,2006 5:19pm
burn in silence: (mainstage) it's so hard to watch these guys without heckling al. I wanted to yell "it would sound better if you played it behind you head" but only managed do yell goratory. they sounded really good except for the non-existant vocals. He looked like we was singing... But I couldn't hear anything.

torn asunder: (secondstage) these guys should be out touring with other bands. It's hard for them to get on "bigger" shows around here since they are death metal, but the attendance at their shows are mostly hardcore (scar culture had this same issue, but scar culture went out of business. since TA has already gone out of business once before, I'm sure they will make it).

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Apr 30,2006 5:48pm
cannae: (mainstage) short set. I don't think they played any old songs, but I was upstairs for the middle of their set. even though it didn't look like it, it was pretty full downstairs for them. There were probably 500 people in there. This was also up against bloodline calligraphy who haven't played around here.

bloodlined calligraphy: (secondstage) they were good, but it haven't listened to their music in a long time. the girl was scary. She made fun of girls who dress sexy just to get attention.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Apr 30,2006 6:10pm

I kinda thought Trouble would cancel when they saw their 20 minute slot. Why the fuck would they drive all the way out here to play for 20 minutes. Glad I didn't go!!!

toggletoggle post by succubus  at Apr 30,2006 6:49pm
Howard is here today too

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Apr 30,2006 7:21pm
byzantine: (mainstage) I wasn't quite sure, like always, which byzantine would be playing. Their CDs all have different sounds to them, metallica to all that remains. Fortunantely, they live show is always constant. They sounded like such good thrashy music and always bring the old school metal. I think they played a cover, but I'm not sure. they are getting the tours they deserve and are really nice guys.

folly: (secondstage) can't say too much about them. Ran in only for their second to last song. It sounded good and kids were singing along. if you want to really see this band, hit them up at a smaller packed venue.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Apr 30,2006 7:23pm
daughters: (secondstage) I think I got up there right when they started. The whole set was um.. 4 songs and probably 7 minutes of playing and 13 minutes and some odd seconds of stage time. instead, singer used 1/2 the set to get free whiskey. Thanks to jackson. He then talked funny drunken shit about thew sports bar across the street. Which used up more of the set. They played that new song that is really good. The mic then got dangled like a tampon into the aforementioned whiskey and suck out. I'm sure that caused a shock. The the mic got thrown on the floor a couple times. At that point, the sound and staff guys kept doing the cut signal. They played another 1/2 song and the singer hucked the mic against the back wall and they stormed off the stage.

toggletoggle post by brian_dc  at Apr 30,2006 7:23pm

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Apr 30,2006 7:25pm
cause you are lame. thumbs down.

into eternity: (mainstage) the vocals aren't like the old vocals. they replaced one of the guitarists (the bald one with the big goatee) with a little guy who learned the music in 2 weeks. ok, it is true, every single time I see this band, they do in fact have new members. Their music still rules. It's like noctural rites, so annoyingly catchy that it's awesome. Girls in the crowd were even screaming for them. So weird. I sang along to the last two songs.

wolf: (mainstage) yeah, the guys from wolf were awesome. One of them (bassist) totally looked like napoleon dynamite. The stage left guitarist was the biggest ham on the stage. Pam commented that he was the loki of the band (ref: the accursed). Before they started, he was in the crowd yelling "do you like metal?". he was also the only one to go down in front of the crowd. When they were starting, that guitarist came over and sat in from of pam, george, carina and I and sat down to chat with us. No sooner did he say "are you guys ready?" the band came out to start the set and he had to scramble back to his guitar.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Apr 30,2006 10:14pm
Bronx Casket Co: (mainstage) they sounded like typo-doomy stuffages. Not really what I'm down for, but their lighting was cool. They had a lof of nice colored back lighting that shown out through all the fog. It was pretty cool looking in my photos from what I can tell. The singer/bassist COMPLETELY looked like the bassist from overkill and the guitarist was the most heavymetal looking person I've seen at this fest yet. People in the audience started to chant for dragonforce and bood+thumbsdowned this band.

Fucking shit. Most retardedly awesome show ive ever been to, and I was only really into 3 bands. Light This City came outta nowhere and really impressed me. They kicked some ass, I want to get a cd of theirs. Then we waited for Into Eternity, and they were great. Opened with Splintered Visions and Embraced by Desolation. Played a new track and a couple from Dead or Dreaming, then closed with Beginning of the End, SO GOOOOOD. I had never seen them and ive been waiting a long time to get to. The new shit sounded real heavy, I cant wait for the album. My throat already hurt after their set from trying to sing with them. Then we waited around for Dragonforce, and they just owned everyone. They opened with Black Fire for fucks sake. Ended with Through the Fire and the Flames, and Valley of the Damned. I'm never going to forget this show, and I hope they dont either, everyone went apeshit for them. I dont think GammaRay should have even bothered going on. There was no topping that, so we left.

I was just going to say that. There wouldn't BE a Dragonforce if not for bands like Gamma Ray. They did Helloween's "I Want Out" and it was the awesomest thing ever.

I guess I just don't SEE IT with Dragonforce. The weedly-weedly-weedly stuff doesn't trump memorable, catchy songwriting, which I don't think DF really has. I know I'm going to be attacked for saying it, but I just don't see the big deal.

Into Eternity was my favorite band of the night, even though I think their new singer is fucking awful. Wolf was awesome. Goat Horn ruled. That Bronx Casket crap was terrible, but I felt bad for them...they were the opening band for Iron Maiden as far as the crowd was concerned. Maybe if they didn't take ten thousand years to set up they wouldn't have angered the mob so much.

I'm too tired to post full on reviews. I had a good time tonight though. Some cool people in the photo pit this year, there were roadie buttcracks, friendly bands, good crowds, the kid from Cadaveryne cracking me up with his belligerent yelling...good times. Met Dankill, cool fuckin' guy. Mike Hirudinea and AlexOnslaught...I think... showed up for Gamma Ray. Hung out with Bill Richards too, haven't seen that motherfucker in years. Definately the best day of the weekend.

Beligerance!

This is 100% the case. About 80% of the Dragonforce fanbase are kids or n00bs (listening to metalcore for about 3 years) who think this music is some novelty, even though Dragonforce simply steal the music of Euro power metal bands for the past decade and play it a little faster. I also like how their fans run around filming videos with swords, basically they are the new LARP.

So Rev, how was attendance overall? A new record for this fest, or fizzling out?

dragonforce was the best show i have ever seen in my entire life. anyone who puts down dragonforce and boasts gamma ray feel just as im sure gamma ray feels: pissed that dragonforce is younger, faster, and over all just a thousands times more talented than they ever were. and please don't play the metal elitist card with claiming points about how you listen to gamma ray 20 years ago. that was then, this is now and now dragonforce will be the dominating power metal band for some time to come. best show ever. wolf was good as well.

Best show you have ever seen in your entire life? Why don't you think about that statement for awhile. Apparently, you haven't seen many shows.

Gamma Ray wasn't around 20 years ago, you stupid squib. And my opinion is not 'elitist'. Your opinion is trendy and sensationalist. Next time you get into a band, that will become 'the best show you've ever seen in your life', I guarantee it.

How much 'talent' does it take to simply take the ideas of other bands? Do you honestly think all of DragonForce's melodies and riffs are original and talented? That they just made up this style? Also, Dragonforce is lyrically the WEAKEST band ever and cannot even create their own songtitles, but these are more minor quips.

They do not have more talent than Gamma Ray. Dragonforce themselves would slap you across the face for making that statement. I think I'll take their side. I'll now return you to your local swingset where you can listen to your Dragonforce, Trivium and Nightwish, fucking newb.

Let me start off by saying that I realllly like Dragonforce, and I realllly like GammaRay.

Anyway,

1) I highly doubt Gamma Ray is pissed at Dragonforce for being "younger and faster and more talented", why? Because well... they aren't.... Sure they are younger, but they aren't really that much faster and certainly aren't more talented. Dragonforce's guitar players arent the shit like everyone thinks they are, they are flashy and over the top and thats what gives them their appeal, but they certainly aren't breaking any guitar player molds with what they do. Gamma Ray has awesome leads, awesome melodies and overall very well constructed metal songs.

2) As mentioned before me, Gamma Ray has not been around for 20 years. Educate yourself on power metal before you open your maw and say something that makes you look like a clown.

3) I highly doubt Dragonforce will 'dominate' the power metal scene. Iced Earth, Rhapsody and Blind Guardian have had a stronger and more steady following for years, Dragonforce is going to be a flash in the pan band over here. There is a really strong buzz about them now, but don't expect it to last.

4) Saying that this was "the best show ever" is pretty dumb, and proves your pretty dumb.... The other prattle you spewed in that little paragraph further confirmed that fact.

Like I said, I really like Dragonforce, I think its good fun over the top power metal. However people every where are licking their nuts like they are the going to be the greatest band ever, they aren't and people getting like that takes the fun out of them as it does with any band. Just enjoy it for what it is, don't make it something it's not.

toggletoggle post by DrinkHardThrashHard  at May 1,2006 12:51pm edited May 1,2006 12:53pm
But here is the thing, I never said I hated Dragonforce. I've been listening to them since their demo tape. I wonder if Matt TNR can say the same?

I merely pointed out that they are a trendy band with a lot of young fans who have not been into metal for long, and will not likely stay into metal for long, and that, for the most part, act as if this is such a novely and melodic power metal has not existed forever.

Off to my Elitist Workshop now.

Whoah there sailor bill!

1. You haven't pissed us off, so ease up on all the self-credit.
2. Some of Dragonforce are in their 30s. There goes your argument.
3. Some of Dragonforce play D&D. So now they aren't cool either.
4. You make fun of D&D, but listen to a band called DRAGONforce. Are you a hypocrite often, or just on weekdays?
5. You probably live six blocks from me. Come to my basement and play D&D with me, I'll let you listen to all the power metal you've been missing. I promise some of it won't be boring (I'm not a big Iced Earth fan either).
6. You are 20 years old, and play in a metalcore band.
7. I rest my case.
8. Thanks for playing.

We shouldn't even bother with this kid if he thinks one a-type power metal band owns all other musical acts in history then he won't be on this site much longer.

I like Dragonforce, but I must say their cds are boring as fuck, after one song it all sounds the same, all the writing is very similar, there were times when I caught myself singing the wrong chorus at the show, but the thing was it fit perfectly with what they were playing. Dragonforce is indeed talented, but I must say there are tons of power metal bands out there that own them.

Ie Gamma Ray, Iced Earth, Angra, Pagan's Mind, Blind Guardian, Norther, Dark Moor, Lost Horizon, Luca Turilli, Helloween, Sonata Arctica, Stratovarius, and much more

each of those bands is over all better than dragonforce. I love Dragonforce but I must admit that they are a type a band, they just take what others have done and play it faster, the appeal I think with dragonforce is

a) They are from an English speaking Country, thus youngsters when looking them up will figure that they sing in English, whereas if the band were from Finnland, norway, Iceland, Russia...ect, they would figure they speak in a funny foreign language, and no one wants to be caught listening to music from non english lands.

b) They are showboaters, they hop around and dance on stage.

c) all their songs asides from the two or three ballads they have, are the same fast tempo, where as other power metal bands put out all kinds of tempos, and often have acoustic songs, or symphonic support.

d) their are no harsh vocals, nor is there a change in the vocal range. Dragonforce stick to one range, sometimes going alittle higher where as other power metal bands used varried ranges going from low to deafing highs.

e) They appeal to video game nerds, their lyrics and some of the samples sound like pieces from games, infact Herman Li said himself he is heavily influenced from Nintendo video game music.

f) They have an Asian, and we all know that anyone not white in a rock band is a novelty and must be adored or it's racist.

g) Somewhere down the line some metal kids wanting to show an appealing crowd friendly metal band to non metal kids chose Dragonforce over bands like Immortal, or Kalmah and other such bands, they chose Dragonforce because it would be appealing to closed-minded music fans and thus most Metal kids for years have been pumping up dragonforce more than any other metal band to non metal kids in a hope of getting them into metal

that is why I think Dragonforce are all the rage, next time on "why good bands have bad fans; Chillen' of Bodom"

I actually have 2 asians in my band so I don't see how that's a novelty. Basically that statement there was actually racist without attempting to be. My band was formed because 2 asians wanted to start a metal band for the love of it not to be a novelty act.

dragonforce > everyone else

Great post brother, and you are right. They only appeal to certain videogame nerds though. I am a major videogame addict and I don't think their music has anything in common with most of the music except a few Rush'n'Attack/Megaman style melodies.

The funny thing is, this kid doesn't even have Dragonforce listed on his favorite bands on his MS page. Yet he says they are better than everyone else. Which says to me that he got into them about two weeks ago and hasn't updated. Bandwagon 101.

Norther is a similar band to COB but simpler and frankly, far better songwriters. That is probably the one you are thinking of, they have black metal vocals but the music is pure Finnish melodeath with synths.

COB's problem is that I dont think they know english so they just use catch phrases that they learned on TV.
ie: "i don't give a fuck ___"

toggletoggle post by DrinkHardThrashHard  at May 1,2006 5:15pm
COB is just flashy power metal, with lots of solos and crap ripped straight off Stratovarius, but they are a little thrashier and have the harsh vocals. Their music goes right in one ear and out the other. I think I liked only one song on their 3rd album. It sounded like a Zakk Wylde riff from back when he joined Ozzy.

As for Norther and Kalmah, both are far more memorable with the songwriting. I still spin "They Will Return" from Kalmah all the time, and the first and latest Norther.

toggletoggle post by SeedBassist at May 1,2006 5:19pm
I like Bodom, but I agree with the fact that they've gone downhill over the years. I liked the first few albums where they had the whole classical element going on. Then I got the new album and realized that they've completely stripped that element away and it's just boring straight-ahead thrash with a bunch of "fuck you"'s thrown in

I must say, you incorporate a bizarre mix of somewhat valid statements with silly absurdity. Dragonforce aren't the best metal act of all time, nor will they ever be, but they certainly aren't the worst. They obviously possess two very talented guitarists that can put the lick on the solo but get lost when it comes to song structure. Now to get to your plethora of points:

a) That's probably the worst and most pathetic stereotype I have ever seen in relation to fans. I have never seen nor heard kids complain that they don't like a band because they sing in Finnish or whatever, and that they try as hard as they can to avoid bands that don't sing in English. That's just a weak and poor attempt at trying to kick the mainstream metal scene when it's down.

b) Would you rather they stand in one spot and just bang their head every now and then? It makes the shows exciting. Believe me, there's plenty of bands out there who make good music but are godawful live, and it hurts them.

c) That you're partly right on. They do use the same chord and song structure for the most part. They do, however, have acoustic songs and use plenty of symphonic support.

d) Harsh vocals isn't really a trademark of power metal, so you lost me there. There's plenty of power metal vocalists out there that explore their range just as much as Theart.

e) Maybe so, I really don't care for the lyrics because I took one look at them and saw that blandness right away in them. How much that influences their fans...who knows.

f) Another baseless stereotype of fans. You're probably the only one who thinks it needs to be embraced. Other than that, you're just desperately vieing for a reason to attack the fans.

g) And so kids tell their friends about Dragonforce. That would up their fanbase, and possibly other bands that they look into as well. I don't think it really would matter either...

GAMMA RAY was amazing, though I really really really wish they had gotten to play their full encore including "Send Me A Sign". I didn't see anything else. I would have much rather paid $25 for a normal downstairs Palladium show than fest price, fuck that crap.

Hmmm, I'm puzzled why Dragonforce gets so much hate. Most powermetal bands are schtick, so I don't know why people criticize Dragonforce's schtick. Secondly, they are all great at their instruments, and I'm surprised no one in here has mentioned how great ZP's voice is. He may just be another powermetal singer with borderline hilarious fantasy lyrics, but if you don't think he's a great singer, I'm kind of at a loss. He's just as good as the singers of so many powermetal bands mentioned in this thread, including (and I am referring to the singer as they were/are in their prime, just like ZP appears to be now) Fabio Lione, Luca Turrilli, Kai Hansen, Hansi Kursch (yeah, completely different style, I know), Michael Kiske, Tobias Sammet, etc. ZP is great, he belts out very very high stuff pretty consistently, which is very difficult on the vocal chords, especially considering the fact that he doesn't appear to make use of a falsetto except on the really high harmonies on the album. He was spot on at metalfest, and so were all the guitar solos. Obviously they take a lot from other bands, but Dragonforce have a very very recognizable sound (I've never heard a band that sounds as much influenced by video game music as they are), so doesn't the fact that they as a unit are very recognizable constitute some originality? I mean, try to disagree with it, but I'm telling you right now, play me 20 different songs by 20 different power metal bands and I'll tell you which one is Dragonforce. Play me 100 different songs buy 100 different power metal bands and I'll tell you which one is Dragonforce. And I only own one album, so I won't be recognizing the song necessarily, but I'll definitely be recognizing the sound. And regarding their songs being very similar in structure, style, chord progressions (and yes, even melodies sometimes), yep, true, completely true. But their third album, from the little I've heard from it sounds like they are evolving musically as every band should, and getting better at more unique songwriting. Call me crazy, but I don't think Dragonforce is a "flash in the pan". I think their gonna keep going and keep being recognized for a while now. And I think it's silly to think they are flash in the pan just because they got really popular all of sudden and have a huge following of "n00bs". There was a band back in the 60s that became an overnight success playing sappy pop tunes ripped off from Elvis and their favorite Blues artists, attracting a huge American following of "n00b" rock and roll fans. They then went on to release albums like Revolver, Rubber Soul, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, and Abbey Road... sooo... anything can happen, right? Obviously, it's absurdly unlikely that Dragonforce are going to be the next Beatles, but, hopefully you guys get what I'm saying. That said, personally, I enjoyed seeing the first US appearance by these guys, cause they rock soooo hard

And, I've gone and done it again: I've rambled for about 15 minutes now, and I'm sure no more than 2 or 3 people are gonna be patient enough to read it.

Yea, I new Neal and the rest of MCS built it, it was just odd to me that you knew about them. Not a very common name around the new angland area considering the lack of dealers. Aside form Me and Ken Patin of Yavcon guitars (he laminates for Neal), I didn't think anyone really even knew about them.

Yes, he does build a fine guitar. I'm sure he went over all of his crazy mexican luthery techniques and neck angle formulas with you (lol, the man is a machine).

as for ordering one, way ahead of you man
I've had an arachnid ultra on the drawing board for over a year now, and I'm currently debating over ordering and archtop SS from them or an ESP horizon.

I've been a member of the Moser custom shop forum for some time... you should consider registering and maybe throwing up some pictures of the guitar. everyone there (including Neal and earleen) would appreciate it. Is that an all mahogany SS? how's the neck thickness?
also, have you had to re oil it yet?

As for everyone else, you should check out MCS guitars. Awsome quality, and awsome people. Neal and Earleen even sent me a free shirt when my house caught on fire. What other guitar company does that?

But what Moonspell song did you use as your screenname? I'm curious because I like Moonspell and Hollenthon and they're both bands you don't hear talked about very much.

From Lowering Skies.

Moonspell and Hollenthon are on my tope ten list of favorite bands, If you haven't picked up the new Moonspell cd do so now, it is far more amazing than all other releases to date.
