Watchmaker is the best local band ever. Enough said. I've never seen a band with so much intensity live, and each one of their albums gets better as they mature.

I'm pretty sure that is not Watchmaker's last show "ever".

toggletoggle post by watchmaker666  at Jan 18,2006 6:24am
This is not our last show ever, we have a few more in the spring. And as far as being overrated goes Id like to show you my one and only 12$ royalty check, and then you can tell me how overated we are. Fucker

toggletoggle post by Messerschmitt at Jan 18,2006 6:29am
WOW. This will be awesome. Play a set with John in MA! or atleast record the Ny set? I can't make it to NY but I'm very curious to hear what Watchmaker will sound like with John playing drums. Fucking DESTROY!!!

I dont see how royalties check have anything to do with overrated, you're not on a major label, are you?

toggletoggle post by watchmaker666  at Jan 18,2006 7:36am
The point I was trying to make is that we don't make any money and have played lots of empty rooms SO HOW THE FUCK ARE WE OVERRATED? Statements like that make me fucking laugh.

If you don't like watchmaker that's fine, lots and lots of people don't like watchmaker. I'm just trying to figure out how we are "overrated". Lack of sleep is letting this shit get to me, you know what, I am over it your right we are overrated I'll be sure to let the 10 people who come to see us at our next show not to waste their money and go see whatever kickass band you are in instead.

Rev, the bigfoot thing is all kinds of awesome.

Watchmaker deserves all the praise they get, they are excellent and one of the most unique local bands, with a clear and concentrated vision, and a great balance of brutality and intelligence.

If you don't get it, you don't get it. Certainly the band is not for everyone. And I'm sure they wouldn't have it any other way.

mr. mark fucking doesn't log in is right. I can see how people wouldn't like them. playing devils advocate:

I can see how people listening to k.f.e wouldn't like them (it's a little noisey, the song's aren't structured the best, and the production seems to be way too compressed)

I can see how people who saw them while they were writing erased from memory wouldn't like them. (a lot of the song's didn't seem to gel together right and some of the "high points" would come out like 5 guys just fucking around on stage.) some times people can't get into music when they see it if they don't understand it. these are the same people who don't understand why it's a party and everyone's invited when andrew WK plays.

the new CD on the other hand. anyone how claims they like grindcore and doesn't like their CD either didn't listen to it and is just fronting, or really doesn't like grindcore and is a poser. either way, you are doing something that can only be described in street talk terms. this CD is awesome.

musically I like the first wooden box thing they did and I like this stuff on Willowtip but I really am not into the shtick. I saw them a while back cause Paul, who used to work at WUML (back then WJUL) was in it. Good songs, silly silliness with the gauntlets and stuff.

What MOE says goes if you have read the thread. If he says they are overrated then it must be true because he is an integral part of the scene and his opinions are highly valued and respected by all. Oh, Taste of Cigarettes. I do not care for you portrayal of all white people having tiny dicks and having the inability to dance. I CAN DANCE!!!

I already commented on the music

I said I like it but I don't like the shtick. I saw you guys at the Middle East a while back and the singer was all dressed up and acting like a rabid viking. It detracted from the real power of the music and just made me confused.

Something you wouldn't even know about if you've never seen them live. Yeah, they're right up there with Kiss and Alice Cooper. They totally market themselves as "That band with the singer who wears a gauntlet and uses a sawblade mic stand". Gimick city there.

The members of Watchmaker are quite talented, and that is why they were asked to be in the band too...not b/c of the color of their skin either.

ONE member of the band puts on two gauntlets for fun and has a cool mic stand, and this is a gimmick? The only people who even see that shit are the people around here who go to a rare Watchmaker show, the rest of their fans who order the CDs from AROUND THE WORLD have no clue about that.

That depends, if people went to see a band simply b/c it was female-fronted (and let's face it, you know this type of thing happens...i.e. Kittie, etc), and not for the music itself, then it might be considered a gimmick.

However, noone goes to see Watchmaker because of the gauntlets, they go for the music. Which is why I re-iterate every previous post I made on this thread.

Watchmaker makes really tight music, they don't need gimmicks to make people remember them or come see them.

Pretty easy.

Here is a video of a band not using gauntlets, dripping blood, saws, face paint, strap-on dildos, or any other joke to amplify the power of their music.

first of all, what is the boston metal elite, who the fuck are they, what makes their opinions more important than say...mine, and why should I care whether they exist or not?

secondly, the gist of what I got out of josh martin's replies to moe were that all the metalcore kids like suffocation 'cause they're a gimmick band with black people in it, while slayer is not because they wear gauntlets. I think you got that ass backwards since metalcore kids won't listen to death metal since they think it's for losers, while Kerry King is the guy showing up in sum 41 videos. Metalcore kids eat up Slayer, in case you didn't know.

Being black does not make you a gimmick, gauntlets do. I don't have anything against either or

Josh, Moe just isn't into your music. You took it too hard. I'm sure he's not the only one in the world who just doesn't get it. But you keep at it and keep doing what you like. It's what makes you special and unique. God made you this way and he/she loves you no matter what.

I always thought most forms of "rock" music were about going against the grain and trying something different. But as soon as someone within this scene isnt as ignorant as you, they're a "faggot." No wonder I dont feel like supporting this scene anymore.

Moe, Don't act like Josh is the spokesman for any scene, he is just someone who sucks at life and feels the need to express his negative opinions about everything he dislikes on the internet and especially here where he doesn't fit in. The more attention you give him the more retardedly old he gets and the more amusement he gets out of it. Just try to ignore him he'll probably die of gay soon. Actually, Josh reminds me of my best friend Mike who thinks pretty much all music after 1990 sucks, except he isn't a dickhead to everyone who has different taste and well, he just doesn't suck as human being.

Good Al Bundy comparison Nick, that was pure pwnage. Anal Cunt is fucking gay; no that is not a joke. Porphyria has a new song called "Josh Martin is Gay" It's wicked true and metalcore!

I think it's hilarious that the people who don't like Watchmaker because of what they wear and how they act on stage are the same people saying that the music should matter above everything else.

OK, I'm gonna wrap this thread up because it is getting completely out of control. The original point I was trying to make was that I had a problem with being called overrated, I don't care if people don't like us, lots of people don't like us and that's fine. But to be overrated would imply that we are a "popular" band which is untrue, we don't make any money doing this and we can't even sell out obriens which holds like 50 fucking people, but we wouldn't have it any other way. And as far as the gauntlets and gimmick's go, people who know Brian know that thats just Brian, it's genuine trust me. He is one talented mother fucker and the Boston metal scene is a better place because he's in it. Thats all, flame away!

You and Nick were both saying that the live shtick really detracted from the music. I don't have a problem with people not liking Watchmaker's music but it's just stupid to let a band's look detract from your enjoyment of the music. It's not like you can hear gauntlets or saws on the album.

I respect that.

At the middle east show we played together Brian told my singer Tim that his highs were awesome and that he should just do those all the time. We thought that was pretty funny but we like the deep/high mix.

Actually, you said this

"i have to agree 100%...the whole gautlets bullet belt and saw took everything away from the music for me. it just made everything seem really stupid and comical. I actually went to the back ot the Middle East because i thought was going to start laughing."

If you had just said you didn't like the music no one would've cared but that wasn't what you said at all.

Way to backpedal though.

Exactly.

"Elite" is only used when someone feels left out and doesn't get why no one likes them.

Shit, I've been a metalhead for over 20 years, I better be in the fucking elite by now.

The Boston Metal Elite's gimick is not allowing faggots and poseurs into their club of super-eliteness.

If you have to ask if you're part of the super metal elite, you aren't.

Where is Paul Baloff when you need him??

Yeah I can see how that's relevant to whether or not a band wearing gauntlets and using a big rusty saw is a gimmicky stage trick or not.

Makes perfect sense to me, totally makes sense to work sexual assault into the mix.

Aha! So, you admit to sexual assault. The prosecution is going to love this one.
