you need a hd version.
I would like to look at DVR or something that I can copy to my computer/DVD

Why do I need a phone line for initial setup?

The TiVoŽ service needs to connect to your existing phone line once during setup to configure your TiVo box with the correct channel lineup.

Why do I need an existing phone line and/or broadband connection?

You can stay connected to the TiVo service either via your existing phone line or your wired/wireless home network and broadband connection. With a broadband connection you only need your phone line once for set-up, then use your broadband to stay connected. This connection keeps your program information up-to-date and ensures you always get the latest software upgrades automatically. Don't worry: Your TiVoŽ box will only use your phone line for a few minutes each day and will never interfere with your phone service or Internet connection.

you CAN use it, but it won't record the HD channels. I was thinking about hooking up the tivo in the attic, but its too damn loud. its sounds like an old sun systems sparc server which is akin to a metalic rocket.

you mean my old one? it's not loud at all..but i have stuff saved and i don't want it erased until i can copy it

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Dec 4,2005 4:18pm
you old one was super loud. you just ignored it. the HD sounded like an old SCSI one.

and from what you posted there is no need to waste $ on a home phoneline.

My buddy had tivo with his HD setup, said it will record, but playback won't be in high def. Kinda like watching an HD channel on a t.v. that's not set up with HDTV.

He scrapped the Tivo and built himself a p.c. box with xp media center. Popped a cable tuner card in, 2 160 gig hard drives, etc... and now he can record shows like tivo, run his remote right through the p.c. He also runs all his music, radio, movies, etc.. throught the box. Try using a barebones kit from shuttle or someone, could probably put the box together for less than $400.

that was my plan, but I never went through with it.
I even have a tuner card.

The beauty is: in that other thread, you said your t.v. can display diffent content on a split screen. That means you could watch a movie, tape a couple others, and if the urge strikes you can surf the web, update rttp, etc. All without taking your ass off the couch. Seriously, imagine how gloriously fat you could get.

I would use my PC, but I can't get the video card to send 1080i to the TV.

if I could get that to work, life would be nice. I have a laptop so I don't need the pcing abilities of the computer, just the storage space. it's got 1.02TB in it.
