NH has a other taxes (including land) to make up for that lack of sales tax. 'Course, since I live down the street from Salem NH I can get out of those other taxes, and still buy things in NH for no sales tax...

NH/Mass Border. For the win.

Oh no! We have gay marriage?!?! So in other words, we are the sole progressive forward-thinking state in the country to have emerged from the Pleistocene era?! People have rights to their sexuality and choice of marriage partner here?!?! ZOMG!!! Fornicators! Burn them at the stake!

We do not all have the 'stupid' accent. Half the state does not have the 'Boston' accent, and a great deal of people in NH and Maine have the same (if not thicker) accent. I've worked in NH at several jobs, I know.

The 'worst drivers in the world' tag is just that, a stereotype. It has absolutely no basis in fact. I've heard the same tag applied to several countries and states. I've certainly run into my fair share of NH fuckwit drivers who wouldn't know what a directional or a traffic sign was if it cleaved their testicles off.

No, for real, how about some legitimate complaints about Mass...like the Big Dig. Keep in mind we have deceptively shitty driving conditions here too, the Boston-Derry stretch on '93 is considered one of the most overcrowded and dangerous commutes in the insular U.S (which is the main reason we have the Eternal Dig to begin with). And let us not forget our population is almost 500% that of New Hampshire! Once another 5 million people live there we'll talk.

Yeah, it can get pretty nasty up there at and beyond the bottleneck. I live right off the rotary at #46 Methuen, and even for me to get up to #2 or #3 beyond the border can be an ordeal (thankfully there are other ways).

Dear DrinkHardThrashHard,

I like you, so I'll keep this letter decent and kind.

Summer after summer, New Hampshirite's fear the inevitable; Rt. 16 clogged with Mass. license plates as far as the eye can see. They drive up here to enjoy our lakes and mountains. They drive here in the winter to ski in our mountains. Why you ask? Because Mass. has nothing that even minutely compares. They throw their garbage out their windows, they put other peoples and their own lives in danger so that they can get 8 feet ahead of the car in front of them. They can't figure out how to use a rotary, so they blast into the rotary with no regard or knowledge of the fact that cars in the rotary have the right of way. They will smash up your car and theirs because they are stupidly stubborn and can't figure out how to MERGE together with any sense of decency. So, every 2 lanes that merge into one...there is always a problem and a Mass. plate usually causing it. They come up here and ski in jeans....who the fuck ski's in jeans?!!?

However, I just bought a house in Maine. I'll be arguing differently after I move in there in 30 days.

Love Always,

Hoser

Eheheheh, alright, fair enough. You should re-write that Bosstones 'They Came To Boston' song into 'They Came to N.Conway' or something.

I don't ski at all, but I would agree if there are Mass people skiing in jeans they should be locked in an enclosed space with Sarin gas. To be fair, throwing garbage out of vehicle windows is something I have seen NH people do on plenty of occasions, but you are correct we do not have as many lakes, and our only good mountains are out West where I went to school. I guess there's no helping that. On the plus side, isn't tourism from Mass (camp rentals, water parks, beaches, etc) one of the biggest sources of import revenue for NH?

Some time I will have to tell you the story about the fleet of 18-Wheelers with NH license plates that tried to kill me one night because I wouldn't move out of the lane that they legally were not supposed to be in to begin with.

I dunno. Hampton Beach is a toilet. Maybe it's a toilet because it's like, "Little Boston" there all summer. At least they dump so much of their money into this state that they keep us from having to pay sales tax.

Then again, they all move here and drive our real estate prices up too. That's why I moved to Maine...to get away from them all. I'll keep moving north for as long as I can. Soon, I'll be in Nova Scotia.

This is actually a valid point....a lot of people do drive down to this area to work for the big bucks....then back to the land of no sales tax. It's a bitch to get in that damn city unless you get up pretty early. My father works at Gillette and beats the 7am rush start by leaving at like 5am.

Not entirely true, Rev. Maine sales tax is 5%. Maine income tax is variable depending on your income (low: 2% high: 8.5%)

I own 4 acres and my propert tax is less than half of what a 2 acre parcel in NH is.
