AS I LAY DYING vocalist Tim Lambesis recently told the Great Falls Tribune that the sub-genre of metalcore is nearing its expiration.

"I think metal core is a trend right now and so it's easy to write a metal core record," Lambesis said.

"I think it's pretty much at its peak right now. It'll get a little bigger this summer. Sounds of the Underground is going out. Ozzfest is going out. Those are both big tours that feature a lot of metal core bands. Those will, I think, bring it to its peak and then from there, it'll be up to each band individually to survive the trend."

Sad that one of the biggest icons in metalcore can claim "it's easy to make and it's just a trend" well....I can't wait to see it pass. Talentless screaming, talentless breakdowns. It's total shit.

i think the guy from limp biscuit said the samething about rapmetal/numetal and that went on for another couple of years. all this is, is another trend to kill time before the next one comes along.

get your baggie jeans out, and your flannels, make sure your hairspray is aquanet and dont forget about those hot jean jackets too.

I wonder what the next ridiculously gay trend could be. I remember when the nu-metal thing was the worst thing imaginable. Now there's metalcore. I can't even begin to imagine what's next.

Dimmu-core

opeth-core, or to trend it up a bit, opeff-co' yo!

toggletoggle post by anonymous at Aug 11,2005 11:04am
Bands like Killswitch will soon fade away within the next two years. Trust me, its the way of the trend cycle. There will never be another "Metallica" type band. Metalcore is at its peak and it will stay there for at least another year before we revert to say... real heavy metal stuff mixed with real singing only stuff. you'll see.

toggletoggle post by dan_bloodblister at Aug 11,2005 11:13am
why should i trust you. what have you done for me lately?

toggletoggle post by thedeparted   at Aug 11,2005 11:41am
i think there is gonna be more electronic shit in bands,
not to bash on any bands that use keyboards or anything,
but i think they will do more shit with them, and yeah like
that anonymous guy said, lots of singing. i dunno, but thats
what i think anyway

toggletoggle post by dan_bloodblister at Aug 11,2005 11:45am
does this stuff even get played on the radio?

lol, gotta love ebonic metal core.

toggletoggle post by anonymous at Aug 11,2005 12:56pm
you guys are fucking retarded. grunge was around for 4-5 years. nu metal was on top of the mainstream for like 6 years, metalcore just broke within a year. none of this shit is even played on radio, mtv, or even TRL. expect to see it for much longer than a year or two.

toggletoggle post by dan_bloodblister at Aug 11,2005 1:02pm
i noticed something weird while fucking around on myspace.

teenage retard hot topic goth kids, dont call themself goth anymore...they are 'emo'. i saw a picture of a kid with gay ass crow makeup and below his picture it said 'im soo emo'.

thus proving, emo is so incredibly gay it has had a hostile merge with goth and created an unstoppable force that will ruin our universe. if only someone had the foresight to murder ian mackaye at the first fugazi show.

toggletoggle post by SacreligionNLI at Aug 11,2005 1:05pm
im giving that post the "epiphany of the year" award

toggletoggle post by dreadkill  at Aug 11,2005 1:13pm
i really don't think metalcore has hit its peak yet. numetal hasn't even been dead for that long and it probably reached its peak around 1998-2000, whenever it was korn's follow the leader came out and limp bizkit got really big. that is my guess at the peak of numetal and it stayed popular until last year or the year before. i think metalcore is almost at its peak and will probably start to decline a year from now, but probably won't die for 2 or 3 years after that. i think it is here to stay for a while.

toggletoggle post by yodaslab at Aug 11,2005 1:29pm
i think metalcore will be around for a while to come. Kids are still buying the records and going to the metal core shows, and as far as im concerned, more people than ever are interested in it right now, then again i live in hot ass tampa, florida, so that could differ greatly depending upon geographic location. There are a few metal core bands that i enjoy such as all that remains, and killswitch engage, i think they should be around a while, as long as they keep up the record sales.

toggletoggle post by timma at Aug 11,2005 1:55pm
wow...that was profound. you even used to words "geographical location"

toggletoggle post by tomx at Aug 11,2005 4:36pm
honestly, id rather have metalcore flaoting around than nu-metal. metalcore, if done right, can sound have a really heavy sound and a nostalgic feel for old melodic death metal. nu-metal was just total, talentless garbage with ridiculous looking fans.

as for the next trend, im scared that it'll be more extreme forms of metal...just look at myspace. there are so many scene kids who all of a sudden have cryptopsy, the red chord and burzum shuffled in with snow patrol, xiu xiu, and bright eyes. ugh

People only do that to have this "obscure" effect to their awesome list of bands. I bet they dont even know what Cryptopsy sounds like.

Yeah, and The Red Chord sucks

toggletoggle post by Rapcore is gay. at Aug 11,2005 7:42pm
Metalcore hasn't been watered down enough to be almost done. I don't think we've had the metalcore version of Edema or crazy town yet. It will get a lot gayer before it's over.

You obviously weren't around when most of the kids I hung around with in high school were like "OH SNAP DUDE, KSE IS LIKE THE FUCKING HARDEST BAND AROUND!" back in 2000. Sucks that your high school was in the assbackward boonies and didn't catch the trend until now. (I'm sure this will really piss you metalcore kids off since it's all about being the coolest first).

Joe Christianni just heard "My Last Serenade" for the first time ever on Music Choice about five minutes ago. KSE are now his favorite band ever, he just told me on ICQ and I responded with ::ROLLS EYES, FAG::

I saw some guy at work wearing a Killswitch Engage shirt today. I just wanted to go right up to him and say "That band sucks so bad" but unfortunately fucking with customers isn't in the job description.

I saw a kid boarding a Duck Tour with his parents in a Blind Guardian shirt, I wanted to go right up to him and say "Warhammer figurines that you painted boobs on don't count as girlfriends"

But on a serious note I'm surprised the fag from As I Lay Dying wants to be remembered for a classic metal album and isn't like "OH MAN WE WERE NEVER DOWN WITH METALCORE I MEAN, YOUTH OF TODAY IS LIKE MY FAVORITE FUCKING BAND EVERxXxXxXXXxXxxxXXxXXXxXxXxXxXxXXxXxXXXXxXXXXXXxxxxXx"

The lead singer of As I Lay CRYING only said that so the album gets more exposure obviously. But it's also true. Metalcore sucks, anyone can make a metalcore album and sell a 100 thousand copies.

"In a way I think that everything sounds the same. All this 'metalcore' or whatever you call it, it's just not interesting. It's good that Sweden is here (at Ozzfest) to prove where this music comes from. It's just boring when everything sounds the same." -In Flames frontman
