Hahah, touche my friend. Touche.

I just threw the promo out back in the woods near my house. Threw it good and far. Wonder if it landed on Load and Re-Load, if some chipmunk hasn't made a nest of them yet.

They're wicked wicked good though...why talk shit about them when it's the label's decision to do that because that's what they do?

what? are you guys hopped up on goofballs or something? Opeth outclasses you guys twenty-fold. im seriously ashamed that you like metal.

I like Opeth, not that much, but I do like them and I like the new album too... but this flyer makes them seem really obnoxious

I did listen to the music. I liked a few parts of 'Baying of the Hounds' and 'Atonement', and the rest bores the fuck out of me so I got rid of my promo.

'Quality musicianship and song writing capabilities' are subjective terms, just because you say they are such does not mean it is true, or that everyone else will agree.

Over an hour of boring filler is what I heard. And even if it was the 2nd coming of Mozart, it still doesn't make this flyer any less gay.

I've been warning you all about Opeth for years and look what happened.

Kindof funny though, One day they have juggalofest and they need to clean the place up real quick so they can have Opeth fest the next day.

When did they become a 5-piece?

toggletoggle post by Spaldino on a fucking mac... lame at Aug 2,2005 3:24am
after damnation... they picked up a synth player.

the new album is much deeper and has a lot more going on. a lot of traditional prog elements in the mix as well as covering a broader range of the emotional spectrum. if Yes became metal, they might sound sort of like the new Opeth... and everyone knows that Yes is and has been a superior band for a long time.

What I'm thinking is the ad may have been a legit photoshop that popped up, and someone PS'd the Slipknot comparison right under it.

Either way, it's funny as all hell.

oh wait you are right. they are untalented, unable to carry a tune, unable to write music, they cant play their instruments, they write nothing but lame boring music with no solid structure. i guess i just missed that on the last 7 albums. oh wait, nope their suckiness is based on a Hot Topic flyer.

they're an ok band, and I like some stuff, but I do think that many parts of their songs (which I find unbearably long-winded and can almost never get through the whole 10 minutes) are lame and boring. And yes they are capable musicians, but not so much that they deserve as much sucking up as they get

From BLABBERMOUTH.NET:
<<<<Independent label powerhouses Ferret Music, Prosthetic Records, Trustkill Records and Metal Blade Records, along with sponsors Music Choice, Revolver, PureVolume.com and Hot Topic have joined together with 18 of the hottest bands in the metal and hardcore scenes to present the Sounds of the Underground Tour 2005. The tour is scheduled to run June 25 through the end of July. The Sounds of the Underground will be an all-day event with music starting each day at noon and will be held in both indoor and outdoor venues in the U.S. and Canada.

Confirmed bands:

CLUTCH
POISON THE WELL
OPETH
UNEARTH
FROM AUTUMN TO ASHES
CHIMAIRA
NORMA JEAN
EVERY TIME I DIE
STRAPPING YOUNG LAD
THROWDOWN
HIGH ON FIRE
DEVILDRIVER
ALL THAT REMAINS
A LIFE ONCE LOST

A special half-time performance will be made by GWAR mid-way thru the show.>>>>
So if you like any of those other bands, then they're gay now too.
Seriously though, besides the fact that I dont really like any of those bands (though I saw Strapping Young Lad open for Testament in 1997 at the Middle East and they werent that bad), HOT TOPIC is a lame hang out for mall-goths and trendies, but it's true that it's not the bands decision wether their tour is sponsored by Hot Topic, becuase they signed a contract with a label and after that they're owned. And I also think Opeth is really fucking boring, but thats just my opinion.

toggletoggle post by Eli   at Aug 2,2005 11:28am
And didnt Cluth open for Maiden at the Orpheum on the EdHunter tour in 99? Maybe it's a different band, but if it's the same one, they sounded more like hardrock then any kind of metal/hardcore that would fit on that tour.

toggletoggle post by DrinkHardThrashHard  at Aug 2,2005 11:36am
Clutch and High on Fire are totally gay...but so am I, so I still like them.

toggletoggle post by Niccolai   at Aug 2,2005 12:20pm
I don't like immortal in the first place, but the point stands.

The fact that Hot Topic sells the red chord shirts doesn't mean I don't like the red chord anymore with the flick of a switch. But if Red chord organized parties at hot topic like 'the gathering of the Juggalos' I would definately lose respect and I might quite possably beat dan_bloodblister with a frozen stick of salami until he submits to my superiority.

people who ditch bands because they got popular or gained a bunch of new poser fans are dumb. i only ditch bands i like when they start making shitty music that i don't like. i expected opeth to deliver a decent, but sub par album. i ended up really liking the new one. i don't care that all the trendies are going to love it.

i don't mind the opeth bashing on here. everyone's allowed to have their own tastes. if someone doesn't like opeth, they should feel free to say so. i talk about bands i don't like on here all the time. if someone here is bahing opeth for the sole reason of them signing to roadrunner and opening themselves up to poser fans, then that's gay. but anyone bashing them because they've heard the new album and hate it, or never liked opeth in the first place have perfectly valid reasons for talking shit.

I thought this flyer was funny, and that is why I posted it...

They signed to RoadRunner, an RIAA label to make the big $$$. That much should be plainly obvious to anyone. It's not like they didn't have a choice in the matter. Whether or not that constitutes selling out to you or to any other individual, is up to each individual to decide. 'Selling out' is an ambiguous phrase at best.

THIS IS NOT A REAL AD Jesus!

From BWBK:
Q: What made you decide to sign with Roadrunner? A lot of people were surprised!
A: "Yeah, we got flamed! But we got offered so many deals. Roadrunner... I don't know, the kids today seem to think it's some kind of nu-metal label because that's all they know, but there's all those guitar albums from the 80s, the King Diamond stuff and many other things. I'm not fond of their roster today, but then I'm not fond of anyone's roster at the moment. We chose Roadrunner because we wanted to make the album available everywhere and I don't want people saying they can't find the album anywhere. I'm sick of that. If people think we signed for the money then that's not the case. It really wasn't a great deal money-wise. If we wanted money we could've chosen plenty of other deals!"

Of COURSE he's going to say that shit to cover for himself, are you kidding me? The albums were already available everywhere, that is why they sold so well, and why Roadrunner offered them a deal to begin with, just like they signed Dykewish who also sold well. The Candlelight, Century Media, all those Opeth titles were readily available in many stores, or simply a click away on the internet. No one here seemed to have a problem getting their albums, or they would not be so huge today.

We are all aware of the 80s Roadrunner, but that is not the Roadrunner of today. Once they closed RC, their sublabel, they started to suck.

toggletoggle post by Sinislazy at Aug 3,2005 11:08am
People in New England are spoiled by how good at stocking metal Newbury is. It's almost impossible to find anything pre-blackwater park in stores nationwide, and a lot of people still refuse to buy cd's online. If you don't see that as a reason to jump to a major, then we'll just have to agree to disagree.

I mean, christ, Akerfeldt spends his money on vinyl. VINYL. It's not like he's blinging it up or anything.

toggletoggle post by yodaslab at Aug 3,2005 11:54am
why is it when a band finally gets some long overdue recognition for writing some great music, some folks take it upon themselves to say "they sold out for the money" or "they suck now" or many other stupid responses along the same lines. The bottom line is that it doesnt matter what label signs any particular band. Of couse opeth signed in hopes of making more money, after all it would be stupid to turn a good offer like that down. Just because hot topic is selling the record doesnt mean Opeth is gay, or lame or whatever. The issue should be the music, will roadrunner change the way that opeth makes music? no of course not. But for someone to sit there and say that they dislike opeth for signing with roadrunner is completely mistaken. I for one, congratulate bands when they achieve success, opeth certainly deserves a great opportunity to make a decent paycheck while doing what they do best. to all douche bags out there who start to hate bands because they get sponsored by the hot topics or signed by roadrunner or whatever the case may be, dont be jealous cuz your nirvana cover band is breaking up because you cant use your moms garage anymore. take the fucking music for what it is. who cares who signs who or who is sponsored by who, it doesnt matter. if the music is good thats all there is to it, if you dont like the music then dont buy the fucking CD assholes

because it's all about being underground

toggletoggle post by yodaslab at Aug 3,2005 12:10pm
define "underground", why is success in terms of being signed by a widely known label a bad thing? sure being "underground" might make you have some diehard fans, but why wouldnt a band want to be signed and have the opportunity to play to a wider variety of people and spread their music to a more diverse audience with the possibility of making some money and seeing the world. I for one would enjoy being in an underground band, but, ultimately i would enjoy success in terms of spreading my music, and delivering it to a wider fan base

toggletoggle post by SacreligionNLI at Aug 3,2005 12:25pm

the term underground belonged to the early to late 90's. now it has as much bearing as the word brutal. apparently Darkthrone is making a music video for their next cd "The Cult is Alive". i say awesome for them for continuing to do what they want to do. but that isnt cold necro grim or kvlt so i'm sure they are going to be classified with Slipknot now. or should i say "mallcore". people dont like when bands do what they want to do. its their band. not yours. my band, for example, makes music. do we make it so people will like it? no, we make it because we like it. if people like it, awesome. but if you dont, too fucking bad.
