I'd just like to say that Watchmaker would be pretty bummed that you thought they were metalcore. Or they'd hit you with a big fuckin' saw.

Watchmaker contain elements of both metal and hardcore, and grind. I've read the singer talking about how he enjoys thrash and oldschool hardcore among other things.

I meant no insult to the band, 'metalcore' is not such a dirty word for me. If they want to saw me up for voting for them, then do so with my blessings.

To my ears, Hekseri is crossover black/death metal, with some clear Morbid Angel influence. I wanted to put CNV for black metal so I put Hekseri for death metal. If I'm not mistaken it even says this on their website: "Our unholy alliance formed in March 2004 in Boston, Massachusetts. Since that time we have been writing and recording a torture session's worth of sickening, merciless, and unholy black/death/battle metal anthems." There it is. This poster didn't ask for best unholy black/death/battle metal band, so I signed them for death metal. Whoop dee doo.

At least I actually voted instead of just trolling!

I considered it, but the keys and female vocals, at least for me, put them into that sort of goth/doom category like Tristania or The Sins of Thy Beloved. There were a lot more selections for drone & doom so I wanted to put a band in there I consider dronier.

I'm going to give Josh the win over Watchmaker, they would have fit better in either death/grind/black probably, they might listen to old hardcore but they certainly don't play it. But Lucifucked is correct that the term 'metalcore' has existed for some time now, but was really only popularized with this new wave of bands in the past few years. I heard many people refer to Agnostic Front and DRI as that back in the day, and I was there. I even remember in highschool someone referring to my first ever band as 'metalcore'. That was 1990-91.

I didn't figure Slipknot for math metal, they certainly don't blow my mind...

Damn, I checked out Hand Choke Neck and really liked that too. Nice, I checked that out. I like it, and I like how it mixes some of the melodic thrash riffs with a very hardcore vocal style and energy. Still tracking down The Heuristic.
