New site? Maybe some day.
i didnt think it was humanly possible to move that fast. i've never seen a person move like that. not to mention the rest of the band kept up with him. last night was a sick show. too bad Despised Icon didnt show, but the people who went and stayed got a damn good show. thanks to everyone who checked us out. |
Yes, Derek (sorry, meant Darren) is good...and I love what he's done with Burn in Silence's stuff..love it. See Pillory and BiS locally in front of small crowds while you can. |

Yeah, but don't let him know that -- he's already getting a big head and complaining about his goddamn triggers, drum sound, etc. |
they need a whole new set. period.
Those things are utter ass.
Which I dont understand, because they are decent drums. They just sound fuckin horrible.
Im sure the 'sunlite' bass head dosent help. |

Good, great, awesome, whatever. The important part to remember is after back to back sets with 2 bands, that man's asscrack REEEEKS.
By the way, our drummer (Pillory) is WAY better than the guy in Goratory or Burn in Silence. Our's sings backup vocals TOO!

That guy from virulence was better. |
why you get over looked when so many bands have hit you up to play for them puzzles me |
we wanted him. but his asking price of $6,000 was a big steep. |
hahahaha thats a bargain, i have been in a band with him since i think 97 |
Cuz nobody notices him, cuz Jim's always "OOOOOOH LOOOOOOK AT MEEEE OOOOOOH"
hahahahahaha |
like, omfg he totally blasts so fast LOLOLOLLLZZZ |
hahaha that was the whole point jim.
Jim is the cool quiet rocker.
Can I call you slim jim from now on? |

Is that another Darren reference, or are you talking about thier original drummer? That kid was one of my favorites of all time. I finally had to download Conflict Scenario because Chris wouldn't make me a copy. I loved virulence. Dormant Strains isn't quite as good, but Conflict is just awesome.

Yeah, it was a Darren reference. I wasn't even aware that they had another drummer in that band. If so, who played on which CDs? Virulence was awesome. Now that I think of it, I'm not sure which CD even came out first, A Conflict Scenario or Dormant Strains I always thought Dormant Strains was first.
Considering how much I like brutal DM, people always think I'm crazy for liking Pillory and Virulence more than the new Goratory |

wow |
ahahahaha yea he did
i say we have a drum competition between me and darren.
WINNER TAKES ALL! |
can i be the mystery 3rd opponent? I'll bring the hand percussion blasts! |
Darren didn't play on any of the virulence cd's. I forget the other drummers name, but that's him on the discs. |

WHAAAA? Woah... I got some really bad info then. And this info has been with me for years. Darren was in virulence though right? I'm looking at the metal-archives info for them. He just wasn't on any cds? |
Virulence was the sickest band from mass. The drumming was sicker then pillory i think |
Yeah. Darren joined Virulence after Dormant Strains. Thier other drummer moved to NY or something. |
ahh, then my original joke still works kind of then I guess. haha. Is there anybody else in Pillory who was in Virulence? |

Hmmm? I can set this up @ my house, if Darren is up for it..........

darren joined after the second CD "a conflict scenario" ...played some shows and helped write new material, which was never recorded. |

darren is ridiculously good. definitely one of the best drummers around. how many bands is he in right now? 3? that's a hardworking drummer. |

No doubt....... But can he handle the devasting skills of Killer? When he blasts, it's like a f16 @ top speed. He's got a seat belt on his drum throne, to keep him from falling off! Kid wears a helmet to protect him from flying shrapnel when he hits the cymbals! |
and when the cymbals fall over from his massive fisting. |

Why is everyone kissing Darren's anything overinflated ego? He likes to play but he does a lot of shit for money. His ego is too big and he hasn't even made it big, stop kissing his ass. He's a cheap egomaniac who needs an attitude adjustment. |
Why don't you adjust his attitude then?
Oh wait, you're a faggot, thats why. |
i wear a seatbelt and/or helmet at all times, really. |
I, too, don't see the point of kissing someone's ass if they're gonna go the "drummer for hire" route. |
my last post on this, since my comment ruined Darren's night on Friday, allow my to clarify more....
I miss the days of going to see Goratory pratice every night in Framingham. I miss getting shitfaced and burning up while banging my head til I turned purple and dizzy. I miss seeing Jay, behind the kit, popping vics, drinking beer, with a cigarette hanging out his mouth. I miss the feeling of hearing Pig Fucker and Cream of Fetus and George Clinton for the first time, all the while, while Jay is incorporating his style into the song. That shit was real.
Darren is emmensly talented, I have never doubted that or shatted on it. It's incredibly different for me to see them write a song, with Darren writing everything on staff, on the computer around guitar tracks. TWO COMPLETLY DIFFERENT STYLES/APPROACHES to this. I'm not saying that one is better than the other nor am I criticizing styles and techniques. Darren is unreal.
There are two simple facts to me about this issue
Darren took Goratory to a new level.
I miss the old days. |
Food for thought: If Darren was doing what he does "for money", do you really think he'd be playing death metal? A full berklee education, Private instruction from Mangini, and a practice regimen that would give my blisters blisters, you think he couldn't pick up a gig with some top 40 band and build up a nice nest egg?
Darren is in three bands, all of whom he writes for, puts a shitload of work into, and is very professional about. He's not jumping on for a ride, he's putting all his effort into each project. Yes, if he can pick up a gig here or there recording, playing a show, or programming drums for some money, he's going to do it. The kid has no job, and is 100% dedicated to pushing his playing as far as he can. If a contractor picks up an extra job on the weekend would that make him a bad contractor? How about a cop picking up a detail shift?
Darren has yet to dick ANY band he's in over, and he has yet to ditch a band because something bigger and better came along. It gets pretty annoying hearing so many people bash the kid because he has the sheer audacity to be PROUD of what he can do. I think people are just having problems with the idea that someone with his skill is taking a different approach to music than they themselves would.
As for BornSoVile's comments, I have never seen Jay with Goratory, but I have both discs. I like the tunes on the new album a lot better, but after seeing Jay play with Compost Pile in Natick it's pretty obvious that BOTH of them are two of the best damned drummers in New England.

Here, let me correct your grammar a bit:
"Why is everyone singing Darren's praises? Sure, he likes to play, but he also enjoys being able to pay his bills and eat food once in a while. He's proud of the friends and fans he's made, and he still has so much further he can go with it. He's a broke musician that loves doing what he does, and his pride can easily be mistaken for pomposity by the petty and narrow minded"
See that? If you pulled your head out of your ass you might realize that there's so many ways of seeing things, if you just take the time to try seeing them from someone elses point of view.

Wow, this is a heated subject. I miss those daze too Josh! You really did turn purple!! Non stop head banging no matter what. |

I agree with you & BornSoVile.... He's amazing. 2 totally different styles. He is dedicated to extreme metal. On the other hand, He went way out of his way to insult me in the last thread, created to praise Darrens tallent. |
Yeah, Darren "threw the first punch" with that comment a few months ago, something along the lines of "Jay had alot to learn about drumming", but that was relatively squashed at the time. |
I don't know why Darren ever said that, but you're right. It was a pretty cocky thing to say. Knowing the amount of patience he's had with a shitty drummer like me (I'm always bugging him for tips and lessons) I really believe that it was more fueled by booze and misplaced humor than any real feelings towards Jay. I could be wrong, but I just don't see how he could be encouraging and patient with a hack drummer like me and turn around to insult a pro like Jay. |
I don't know if "threw the first punch", fits this scenario, but I think my point helps you get yours across. As far as why it was said...... It's the result of speach without thought. regardless, It was squashed right away. I'm neutral on the subject. |
DEATH2ALL said: It's the result of speach without thought. |
