I'm tired of asking nicely for people to get ahold of us to tryout, so far we've tried out one person who didn't work out, next to tryout is Josh Staples (abhorred, ex-ascendancy). Anyone else.........? Christ, the only thing holding us back from getting us signed right now are these gay lineup changes!

We're down to the last few shows with Dan our current bass player who we will miss dearly. We are looking for a 2nd guitarist as well, but finding a replacement bassist is more important at this time.

Just a few requirements we ask:
-experience (no 16 year olds please)
-must own equipment, good enough for live shows.
-a positive/serious attitude (we're all a bunch of goofballs, but we're serious when we have to be)
-flexible schedule (lots of shows, weeknights, weekends)
-we'd prefer someone who doesn't play with a pick, but it's not a must if are really proficient with one.

We're in limbo with our jamspace, as of now we're practicing at my house in Berwick, ME any chance we get.

please contact us if you are interested:
porphyria603@hotmail.com
or call tom @ 603.781.0993

thanks.

You can read? No 16 year olds. All of us are above 20.

Why would we have someone in the band we wouldn't get along with? I have nothing against him at all so it's not really that. None of us got that 'This is the one!' feeling.

He also didn't have transportation, and only had a crate 2x12 practice amp that sounded absolutely horrible. His soloing speed was pretty fast but I didn't hear him play any metal riffing at all. So quit being an anonymous fag and being offended because your friend isn't in our band.

"I meant he personality wasn't something you couldn't get along with."

wtf does that mean?

"He was also on his way to having a rig.. not too soon BTW.."

on his way isn't good enough. not too soon doesn't help either.

"he had transportation VIA someone in the band.. "

what if that person couldn't make it to practice?

oh well, I'm done defending our reasons against mr. anonymous here as to why we haven't filed our guitarist position yet. Move on with your life, there are plenty of other bands to join.

That's a really weird reason for not getting signed.
You already recorded your demo. What label is going to give a fuck who your bass player is?

That's just what the world needs anyways. Another boring death metal band.

Its okay Metalguy, the feeling of this is the one has been halted by communication problems, I didnt know what Tom was playing because he couldnt serve it to me in a manner i was acustomed too, for instance - when I asked him what key it was in, he could not comply (my fault I know, I should have been able to figure out the key signature by myself) - Another problem was the timing, I had NO idea what time signature or the changes any of the songs were in when I went into the jam room, I had to play by ear, which was fine I guess. And when I asked Tom what modes he was in, he couldnt tell me becuase he didnt know - its no big deal, some people can just play their instrument, some people know their instrument inside and out, and know what they are doing, some people dont. its not a problem.

I didnt get into a Death Metal band, its no big.

No one told him he had to quit his job, as a matter of fact none of us said he was that close to being in the band. It was a tryout, nothing more. No mistakes were made, we stand by our decision that he wasn't going to work out. Get over it.

if a Label knows you lost a guitarist, and are about to lost your bassist, why wouldn't that be enough to be hesitant to sign the band? Especially if the label is use to their bands touring like motherfucks.

So, what labels said they'd sign you if you only had a bass player?

Tons of signed bands change bass players every other month. As long as the principle members are there it doesn't matter who's standing next to them on stage.

Some people play by the rules and books, some people play by ear and what sounds good to them. Definetly no big deal and no right or wrong way in my opinion. I could tell by how you were playing that you didn't really seem use to playing death metal which is fine. You're a solo playing which is good for you, I can't do it. Good luck.

Sounds like you need less theory and more actual playing.
99% of death metal bands play by ear and don't give a fuck about what "mode" they are in.
I would've stopped the tryout right there as soon as you asked "what mode are you in?" That's completely gay.

I'm not going to name any names.

The fact is, we lost a guitarist TOO who was a principle member of the band. So finding someone to fill his shoes is not turning out to be easy. I understand what you mean about the bass player thing and how a label would really dismiss that as long as you found someone else.

hahahah wow, I actually agree with Josh here. holy shit!

That's what I was getting at, Nick is use to playing shit by the books and the 'RIGHT' way. I didn't hear him play anything other than solo's. We're defiently not necrophagist.

i shit on all of the drummer's i've met here @ school and i dont know an ounce of Theory or any of that shit. The music i play is insticntual and emotional for me. Trying to make it a task of memory and education isnt a very fetching idea to me, so i dont do it. I dont care is anyone else uses that stuff, whatever floats your boat is fine. Butm dont shit on other people who dont know that garbage and do just fine. When the people who created the earliest forms of music that mutated and bred what is modern forms of music today started out, how many fucking modes and theory did they know?

Theory is.. THE THING. If you know more about music, you will be able to do alot more with it. If you are playing it by ear it will take you ten times as long to be creative. With theory, shit like Necrophagist is possible. I think that if you only play music by ear you are seriously limited to what you can play. Somone who doesn't know theory will not be able to pick up other genre's as quickly as somebody who does. And if you do not know theory you won't be able to communicate to other musicians.. Which is sad because that is half of what music is about. Communication. Communicating with bandmates and the audience.
I am not really concerned with how this board feels about me or my bands. So if you don't want me to post anymore. Fuckyou. It isn't like I am looking for anyones queer ass approval.

Give me a break, Metalguy. I have absolutely no official theory training and can play all Necrophagist rhythms (and some of the solos). I play it by ear and it does not take me ten times as long to be creative. I have never had a problem communicating with other musicians. Try not to cite bands like 'Necrophagist' as an example, you may think its talented but it's the same shit we've heard a million times before, with formulaic arpeggios etc, no unique qualities, no groundbreaking material. I'm not saying Necrophagist isn't good, before anyone jumps down my throat!

Most 'theory' experts I know end up playing in cover bands and sitting around muddling in their illusionary musical superiority, while other much less trained musicians sell millions of records because they have talent and feeling.

You think Nirvana had a lot of 'theory' training? Slayer? Compare their loyal fanbase to that of Necrophagist.

toggletoggle post by metalguy at Jun 18,2005 1:50am
Yea gay bands like Nirvana... Slayer give me a break. I am all about theory because when I am playing a song. And I know the key.. I can pretty much do what I want and know it is gonna sound good with few exceptions. I am not in a cover band.. I will save that till I am 30.

Everything in music is a pattern... If you say it isn't you do not know what your talking about. And guess what music theory is.. You got it... patterns. And don't give me this bullshit of death metal doesn't follow a pattern. Because it does. For the most part it is. Chromatic, whole tone, diminished, phrygian, and locrian.

too bad you're not all about punctuation, contractions, run on sentences, sentence fragments, or reading comprehension. The quality of our thoughts can only be as good as the quality of our language. That's kind of important.
I guess you probably just communicate through your music.

they brought atmosphere into the picture...You know when fucking slayer is blasting through the speakers. bound by the laws of theory? bahahahahahahaha!!!! Are writters bound by the laws of spelling and puncuation? Are doctors bound by the laws of biology? Are bands like meshuggah and Cynic bound by theory? I assume you see what i am getting at. Theory like biology or english is a way of building a strong foundation so that you can be a functional tool for self expression. Do you think dream theater, meshuggah, dillinger and cynic would be half of the bands they are without their years in such a "binding" study. There is no point in picking on kids for spending time shaping their art, in any case, because there are just as many diven talented musicians who know nothing about theory as there are musicians who do. So get back to getting this band a bassist.

toggletoggle post by Sinistas   at Jun 18,2005 8:55pm
First off, I'm not picking on anybody for being into theory - I wish I did, because my friends run circles around me in that department. However, you can still be a great songwriter or musician without it. The bands you mentioned are great because they use their knowledge to push boundaries - not live within them.

In any case, bump for a bassist.

Gay bands like Nirvana and Slayer....who have had an enormous impact musically on peoples lives, and influence on their respective musical forms, and not because they were ever trendy. Whereas you have ZERO impact, period, on anyone's life. Slayer is a REALLY gay band, who probably influenced just about everything you listen to (Necrophagist included).

When did you start listening to metal anyway, 2 years ago? I'll bet.

And what fucking band are you in, kid? Seriously, we want to hear your amazing theory at work. Musicians making millions are often very much less trained than faggot fretboard masturbators who died out with Steve Vai.

I think every dumb stump in the universe realizes music is a pattern, so thanks for pointing that out to us...that was mighty informative.

And I think all those musicians out there who are 30 or older and make a lot more important music than you will take REALLY well to your statement, which made no sense, since kids play covers too, and quite often (fuckwad).

Oh by the way, MY band is releasing an EP, ill post it in a few weeks once its done. It will DESTROY you, no its not dream theater, no its none of that progass rock shit, its straight up THEORY and METAL. Then you can talk to me about theory heads being a fag, I dont care what you think close minded tools like you have no say in anything with the movement of sound unless its you checking me out at the gas station which most people like you do.

Are you really that bent out of shape that they wouldn't let you in the band? Just let it go, guy. Maybe the reason they didn't want you in the band is because of all the highschool drama you'd bring in like you're doing right now.
