maybe not the best, but worth checking out -- not kreator or german, but good thrash:

No Time Left
Tear It Up!
Melee
Bones Brigade
Cut The Shit

kinda old school hc tinged.

Bones Brigade (who's playing this saturday at the Cambridge Elks) deserves a spot on the top ten. Both Exhorder albums are incredible and should be a must-have for any thrash fan. If Forbidden sounded better on CD, they'd also be incredible. For a good Forbidden recording, get the Ultimate Revenge 2 video. I was blown away.

Others are Dark Angel, Anthrax (Specifically Among the Living and Spreading the Disease), DRI, Nuclear Assault's "Survive," and Testament's "The Legacy."

Every Thrash fan should own...

VIO-LENCE - Eternal Nightmare

RIGOR MORTIS - Rigor Mortis

FAITH OR FEAR - Punishment Area

CORONER - Punishment For Decadence (Masked Jackal rules!)

WARGASM - Why Play Around?

I'm partial to Destruction, if you're talking German thrash. Oh, and who could forget - TANKARD!

toggletoggle post by ArmageddAnne   at Apr 29,2005 7:53am
All the shit they listed don't sound remotely like German thrash...

Rigor Mortis s/t
Nuclear Assault Survive
Exodus Fabulous Disaster

That sounds pretty spot-on to me.

German Thrash/Speed Metal is fucking amazing... Some of these bands are more towards the Speed/Power side of the spectrum, but they were part of the same scene. My recommendations are pretty much for the 1st 1 or 2 releases or so by each band, as they went in greatly different directions afterwards (and in some cases, I just am not familiar with anything past the first release or 2). Of course some went on to do great/different things, but their early releases make up the core of the German Thrash sound.

RUNNING WILD
DESTRUCTION
SODOM
KREATOR/TORMENTOR
IRON ANGEL
LIVING DEATH
HELLOWEEN
GRAVE DIGGER
Fucking TANKARD!
ANGEL DUST
NECRONOMICON
DEATHROW
ASSASSIN
RAGE
POISON
WARRANT
HOLY MOSES

I hope that means he's only heard VR, Outcast, Endorama and Renewal.

toggletoggle post by maslayer at May 1,2005 9:37am
Al...do yourself a favor and listen to "Pleasure to Kill", "Flag of Hate" and "Terrible Certainty"...all groundbreaking releases

toggletoggle post by Al Ravage at May 1,2005 11:27am
Everyone I know says "Coma Of Souls" is their best, I thought "Violent Revolution" was a hell of a lot better than that. Those are the only two that I have heard though. Maybe I'll check out "Pleasure To Kill". I haven't heard their "psychedelic" stuff.
Maybe it is the production too, I still think "Sound of Perserverence" is by far the best Death album, yet people say "Symbolic"...which is good too, but I think SOP is better.
I guess you can lump me in with the same kind of fools who think "Brave New World" is the best Maiden album, (even though for the record, I think it is mediocre).

"I do not need a cause for my rage
I just despise the nature of the human race
When all I see is repulsion and hate
Violence becomes my only friend, my saving grace
When love is lost beyond your control
A pale shadow of lust can not enlight your soul
So keep your ice cold bitter illusions
I don't need your empty world my only solution
is a Violent Revolution
Violent Revolution, Violent Revolution
Reason for the people to destroy"

Then again, how can you get better than that?

toggletoggle post by BestialOnslaught  at May 1,2005 2:05pm
I don't know anyone who says Coma Of Souls or Symbolic is the best album from either of those bands!

How can you get better??

"Was it a vision or was it a dream
The trust of the mankind has never been real
Gods of pleasure gods of pain
Gods of terror of life and of hate
Mortality is endless when gods start to pray
Life becomes worthless by nuclear death
The're watching from above it could happen every daywatching their
terror and
care in no way
No one can imagine where you will be
Where you have been before your birth you will see
Planned and controlled is your life in every way
Watched and controlled on every single day

See their eyes filled with lies
Watch the slaughter endless night
Can make your scream can make you cry
You know you're helpless till the end of time
Awakening of the gods

Burning ambitions your lusts and your wills
Your plans of life goals and your thrills
Days of laughter days of crime your living to your fate on foretold
time
Nothin' has worth nothing is real nothing is important no way you
Feel this can't be the only life it could begin when you die

See their eyes...

Manipulated by human feelings
You're passing through this life searching for the meaning of all
But that's something you will never find
Accept all what happens to you
Be prepared for torture and pain you know there ain't nothing
You can do only death will close the reign

You've seen the good sides but you've also seen the bad
Damned to mortality damned is your life for death
Created for a mystery why is this your fate
Only the future will show
Or maybe you will never know"

toggletoggle post by maslayer at May 1,2005 6:03pm
