Any thoughts? I picked this up about a week ago and I dont think Ive managed to get through the whole thing once yet. It just doesn't seem like a good follow up to Painkiller to me. It doesnt have any balls or make me wanna bang my fist and praise the day I coughed up 15 bucks to buy the goddamn thing. I dunno. Maybe I just haven't listened to it enough. Maybe it'll grow on me who knows. I thought Halfords solo stuff was more badass.
That would suck if they shat this album out just to get more money from all the fans who want to see Halford back in the band.
It just seems generic to me. Like an album a Judas Priest tribute band would write or something.

toggletoggle post by KeithMutiny  at Apr 7,2005 10:17am
the stuff ive heard, which only a couple songs, left me rather dissapointed. they hyped it so much i was waiting for a fast riffed, nasty solo type, old school thing... i was wrong, least so far. I think it seems kind of generic, but id be interested in hearing the reat of the album, just so i can shit on it full force.

toggletoggle post by Christraper at Apr 7,2005 10:23am
The rest of the album isnt any better than what theyve played on the radio

toggletoggle post by RustedAngel at Apr 7,2005 10:27am
90% of the record is definetely boring.

Halford's solo band was bad ass, I hope they keep it going!

toggletoggle post by KeithMutiny  at Apr 7,2005 10:32am
he should get the fuck back in the closet and make good records again.

toggletoggle post by Christraper at Apr 7,2005 12:03pm
Please, as if he was in the closet from the beginning. Ram It Down? Point Of Entry? Sin After Sin has a song in it with direct refferences to Fire Island. I dont know how people didnt figure it out before hand.

toggletoggle post by WhyamIandasshole   at Apr 7,2005 12:04pm
Not that good.

toggletoggle post by KeithMutiny  at Apr 7,2005 12:06pm
im just using the gay thing as a reference point, he needs to go back to making good shit

toggletoggle post by Christraper at Apr 7,2005 12:09pm
its obviously not any fault of halfords because he went on to bigger better things (in the pants of many men) after leaving priest.

toggletoggle post by Priest Lover at Apr 7,2005 12:30pm
Stick with old JP. That way you can't lose.

toggletoggle post by Distrust-Kevin at Apr 7,2005 1:54pm
Ripper Owens had a better voice anyway. They should have kept him. Fuck homo-Halford.

dude, he didnt have a better voice. but he did have an awesome voice thats being properly displayed in ice earth which rules. they just made him do wicked gay shit, like basicly fucking rap.

i dont know man, whenever i heard halford scream thats pretty much the greatest shit in the world. im one of those fans who believe they can do no wrong. and i think anyone who talks shit about rob halford should be impaled.

toggletoggle post by Hooker  at Apr 7,2005 3:53pm
he was trying to rile everyone up.

toggletoggle post by KeithMutiny  at Apr 7,2005 4:20pm
i dont like iced earth

toggletoggle post by Lord_Valder  at Apr 7,2005 7:47pm
It definitely has some clunkers, but some great songs. I think the first song would fit right in on Painkiller. The second song would fit in on Screaming for Vengeance or British Steel. The third song is bad, which I think is the single. The fourth song has weird singing, but is great after a few listens. The rest of the album is decent, with only the last song being a little bloated. Not outstanding or anything (not nearly as good as Painkiller) but still a solid album.

Ripper is an ok singer, but not even in the same league as Halford. The main problem with the albums he was on was that the songs were just awful.

toggletoggle post by Hooker  at Apr 7,2005 7:59pm
iced earth is pretty gay when Paul Stanley is singing. I liked the Ripper album alright though.

We did.

toggletoggle post by th3rdknuckle at Apr 7,2005 8:45pm
and why does everybody talk about Painkiller, like it's their greatest acheivement? To me at the tim eit was their 'jump on the thrash bandwagon' album.
Unleashed and Sad Wings are the ones you should measure their new one (and all other metal records LOL?) against. imho

toggletoggle post by Blue  at Apr 7,2005 8:46pm
halford>new priest.

they totally went back to the rocka rolla sound for some reason. im not sure why, but it is kind of weird that with the past couple of albums they have gone in a decidedly heavier direction, and then right when they get halford back, they soften up. what gives?

toggletoggle post by th3rdknuckle at Apr 7,2005 8:51pm
Fans at the time knew he was gay. Creem Magazine used to jokingly make reference to it all the time, as early as '78. I knew, all my friends knew, and we didn't care.

toggletoggle post by Hooker  at Apr 7,2005 9:03pm
Painkiller fucking rules.

Priest have not written a good album since "screaming for vengeance", which was what, 1983. twenty two years of CRAP since.

"defenders of the faith" was a good album what are you talking about man

toggletoggle post by Christraper at Apr 8,2005 9:08am
Sin After Sin will always be my favorite Priest album. The only reason Im comparing Angel to Painkiller is because that was the last album with Rob so with all the hype that was being pushed for this records release I wouldve assumed that theyd be taking it a step further. Apparently not.

toggletoggle post by SuperFly at Apr 8,2005 9:09am
It was o.k. I never bought it. Screaming for vengeance set the bar so high that anything they did after that could never live up to expectations. Thats just my opinion.

toggletoggle post by SuperFly at Apr 8,2005 9:10am
referring to defenders of the faith

toggletoggle post by Christraper at Apr 8,2005 9:11am
I like everything they did with Rob except for this one. Maybe Ill like it in a year when they come out with an even shittier album but for now I think it sucks.

toggletoggle post by SUBJUGATE   at Apr 8,2005 9:13am
i hear ya but d.o.t.f. has some great stuff on it and in my opinion better than s..f..v..

What is the name of the single they have the video for and thats on the radio? That riff is the same exact riff in the mountain song by janes addiction...fuck both bands but how the hell did they do that without getting sued.

toggletoggle post by Christraper at Apr 8,2005 12:13pm
Because theyre Judas Priest and the guys in Janes Addiction probably don't care enough to bring them to court about it.

toggletoggle post by dan. at Apr 8,2005 12:25pm
janes addiction suck. they should be honored if judas priest ripped them off. which, i dont really know that song well enough....but im pretty sure that judas priest doesnt need to rip off anyone. and if they did, it was purely cooincidence.
i doubt they said 'hey guys lets rip off this 16 year old song! even though we are living legends and some of the greatest musicians on the planet, it would be really neat to rip off this totally fucking gay band!!!!'.

but maybe im wrong.

toggletoggle post by Christraper at Apr 8,2005 12:28pm
I think dan has a point.

toggletoggle post by MIDGETSTEALER at Apr 8,2005 12:47pm
HAHA yeah thats right...id be honored if a 600 year old gay biker ripped off my song.yeah janes addiction sucks but that just shows how bad judas priest got at writing music.to rip off a shitty band and do it bad.

toggletoggle post by Christraper at Apr 8,2005 12:50pm
I dont think you got the point. I highly doubt that anyone in Priest listens to Janes Addiction and even so its not very likely that theyd go out of their way to rip off someone elses riffs.

toggletoggle post by Christraper at Apr 8,2005 12:51pm
And if theyre so terrible at writing music then how bout you shower us with your cosmic musical wisdom and write something better.

toggletoggle post by dan. at Apr 8,2005 12:53pm
BWAHAHAHAH what a fucking jackass. yeah dude, judas priest sucks. rob halford is gay. we get it. fuck off

toggletoggle post by MIDGETSTEALER at Apr 8,2005 1:00pm
im not ripping on priest and their past musical accomplishments but do yourself a favor listen to the janes addiction song...if you dont believe me now.... its pretty much the exact same riff minus maybe the last note.and i highly doubt that priest purposely did it..How can they not have heard janes addiction before i mean come on.

dan. said:

Judas priest doesnt suck but i have to say their new cd and that song is terrible...i know that janes addiction song and i actually have a heard a couple people say the riff in that song sounds too familiar.and if they did rip off janes addiction who gves a shit they are all fucking junkies and probly dont remember they wrote the song however many years old it is.

toggletoggle post by dan. at Apr 8,2005 1:09pm
yeah dude, but thats only because puff daddy produced this album!

toggletoggle post by MIDGETSTEALER at Apr 8,2005 1:13pm
puffy is known for sampling old washed out songs.and its p diddy now.or i think its dunny malone

I read down every post looking for a nice thing said about this album and finally I got one. I love it. I think it's an awesome album. When I first heard "Revolution", I wasn't very impressed, and wasn't really excited about the album. So I waited on it until a friend bought it, and he said it was great, so I picked it up and I think it's great. Revolution is just a bad representation of the album I think. Judas Rising is an awesome first track, and other standouts are Demonizer, Hellrider (which has a fucking awesome guitar solo), and Lochness, a 13 and a half minute song about the Lochness Monster. I can't wait to see them on the tour for this.

toggletoggle post by Lord_Valder  at Apr 8,2005 6:47pm
Revolution is an awful song, maybe the worst on the album, I don't know why it is the single. Painkiller is one of their best albums, but I would say Hell Bent for Leather is their best. Heck, even Turbo has some ok songs (Out in the Cold is great).

toggletoggle post by anonymous at Apr 17,2005 9:05pm
your wretched souls will burn in hell forever

toggletoggle post by anonymous at Apr 17,2005 9:05pm
Iron Maiden is the best

toggletoggle post by Al Ravage at Apr 17,2005 9:16pm
Jugulator was actually a decent follow up to Painkiller at the time... aside from some dumb lyrics, it is one of the best (and the heaviest) Priest albums.

The new album is decent. I think it is as good as what it needs to be, but obviously isn't great. The first Halford album is probably better than it. Painkiller is Painkiller, they aren't going to top that album... just like Metallica will never make another great album, and Maiden probably won't ever make an album that stands up to their 80's stuff. Still a better listen than a lot of stuff out there, but they are getting old, give them a break.

toggletoggle post by lucifer_rising at Apr 19,2005 9:26am
I actually enjoyed Angel of Retribution a great deal, even the "Revolution" song, although I'll admit that it doesn't measure up to Painkiller in the slightest.

It seemed as if they were trying to meld every era of Judas Priest up to Demolition in order to start anew, which I can't slag them for.

toggletoggle post by CarrotsandSticks  at Apr 19,2005 11:25am
who ever bought the dual disc is a retardo supporting retardo technology

toggletoggle post by BSV at May 27,2008 12:37am
It's not that bad. Heavy, solid, classic styled. Definately lacks the energy of older releases but it's not unbearable. I just fucking love Priest.

toggletoggle post by kevinthesprigg at May 27,2008 12:42am
I love this record. Judas Rising, Hellrider, and Lochness are some fantastic jams.
