anyone heard the song "Retribution" from JP? I think that's the song name... anyway the main riff is almost identical to "Mountain Song" by Janes Addiction!

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Feb 18,2005 2:22pm
yeah, isn't this old news?

toggletoggle post by nate   at Feb 18,2005 2:24pm
maybe it is, but I just heard the JP song for the first time at the radio hear at work... I never listen to the radio elsewhere so I hadn't heard... so go poop in your own pants or something!

toggletoggle post by litacore   at Feb 18,2005 3:01pm
yeah but Jane's Addiction are gayer than Rob Halford AND Dave Holland put together

besides, J.A. ripped off Zeppelin shamelessly

toggletoggle post by shatteredliz   at Feb 18,2005 3:34pm
The song is called Revolution--the CD is Angel of Retribution.

If you were wondering.

toggletoggle post by Hooker  at Feb 18,2005 4:06pm
Note for note ripoff. And welcome to a month ago.

toggletoggle post by Phil E. at Feb 18,2005 4:19pm
who gives a shit, listen to the whole album its good.

toggletoggle post by blue  at Feb 18,2005 4:24pm
its good, but not great.

toggletoggle post by Hooker  at Feb 18,2005 4:26pm
It's gonna suck when this pales next to Painkiller. I'm going to be disappointed.

toggletoggle post by shatteredliz   at Feb 18,2005 4:34pm
Let's just enjoy it for what it is, not compare it to the past...

toggletoggle post by Hooker  at Feb 18,2005 4:35pm
I'm going to buy it. But it's going to disappoint me.

cmon liz, how can you not compare this cd to painkiller?

i find this cd to resemble more of the 'rocka rolla' era priest.

toggletoggle post by shatteredliz   at Feb 18,2005 4:41pm
Yeah, I agree...

Painkiller is totally overrated. Their 70's stuff kills it.
Stained Class owns everything.

toggletoggle post by Hooker  at Feb 18,2005 4:53pm
Overrated? Not really. Most people go with British Steel or Screaming as their handjob worthy albums.

toggletoggle post by Josh_Martin at Feb 18,2005 4:55pm
Sad Wings, Sin After Sin, and Stained Class is the trifecta.

toggletoggle post by Phil E. at Feb 18,2005 4:58pm
Josh Martin is correct. Nothing tops Stained Class, Saints in Hell, Exciter, Heros End,Savage(sounds like a Deep Purple song but better)....come on! Sin after Sin is better then all the 80's albums combined too, not to say i dont like those or even painkiller

toggletoggle post by Hooker  at Feb 18,2005 5:00pm
Yeah, it's kind of apples, oranges... and... some other fruit... Halfords or something.

You got 70's rock and roll priest, 80's buttsex metal priest and then Painkiller. An album that I include in my top 5 best modern metal albums of all time. They all sound so different.

toggletoggle post by Josh_Martin at Feb 18,2005 5:01pm
Last time I saw Priest (w/ Ripper) the only reason I went was because I heard they were going to play Exciter. They did. It ruled.

toggletoggle post by Josh_Martin at Feb 18,2005 5:02pm
Stained Class is the blueprint for all modern metal.

toggletoggle post by Hooker  at Feb 18,2005 5:05pm
I have everything except stained class. I have to get that shit.

Painkiller is the blueprint for power metal. Which, most of the time isn't a good thing. But still. I love that album. blah blah blah.

toggletoggle post by Josh_Martin at Feb 18,2005 5:07pm
I thought Manowar was the blueprint for power metal.

toggletoggle post by Phil E. at Feb 18,2005 5:08pm
apples, oranges or whatever....70's preist cant be topped. As for the 80's British Steel>defenders of the faith>Screaming for vengence

toggletoggle post by Hooker  at Feb 18,2005 5:11pm
manowar is the blueprint for all that is wrong in this world.

no, I think that award goes to Marlyn Manson and ICP

toggletoggle post by Phil E. at Feb 18,2005 5:17pm
Manowar on battle hymns wasnt powermetal....that album is just great.

toggletoggle post by Hooker  at Feb 18,2005 5:36pm
I love Manowar, but they're the worst band in the world.

toggletoggle post by BestialOnslaught  at Feb 18,2005 5:56pm
HELLOWEEN's MLP and Walls Of Jericho are the blueprint for Power Metal.

Painkiller in the grand scheme of things is only better than Jugulator, the crappy one after it, Ram It Down and Turbo... I definitely think it's overrated to some degree, though I do like it. Unleashed In The East is the tops (and it's no surprise since it has 4 Sad Wings songs).

toggletoggle post by BestialOnslaught  at Feb 18,2005 5:57pm
MANOWAR is Heavy Metal, and damn good at it.

Then why do you cover them?

toggletoggle post by chris black at Feb 18,2005 6:39pm
Painkiller blows.

Anyway, the Janes/Judas thing has been on my mind for years, the whole flamboyant squeaky frontman thing.

The verses of "Mountain Song" are structured just like "Victim of Changes" anyway, so it really is old news.

Also, the definition of power metal changed significantly since its introduction in the 80s.

toggletoggle post by th3rdknuckle at Feb 18,2005 7:14pm
Sad Wings of Destiny was Priests 'blueprint' album. There they invented modern Heavy Metal (as opposed to the primarily blues-based stuff that existed before it).

toggletoggle post by El Justin at Feb 18,2005 7:54pm
jane's addiction are one of the best bands ever

I brought this up last time this thread was done a month or two ago, but noone seemed to take notice.

It's the riff that bothers me.

toggletoggle post by Phil E. at Feb 21,2005 1:01pm
the more i listen to the single the more i like it. Overall i like the new album.....as good as anything motorhead and Maiden have done in the last few years.

I'll be sure to let Glenn and KK know, they'll be devastated.

you I never heard 'Painkiller', just the song itself and the Death cover (of course)

I'd written them off after Turbo (I was 18 at the time, and its weakness pissed me off), perhaps prematurely

perhaps I should check 'Painkiller' out, as a whole

Stained Class = LOOK MA, NO FACE! (James Vance)
