i had this weird dream where I was at jarrods, but the place was totally different. RK was hanging up this huge banner in the window at the front of jarrods (which actually only existed in my dream).
I was talking to their singer about stuff, then I was running my distro table, which was doing really well. Then I went to the singer of RK's office (for some reason she had an office inside Jarrod's, it was down the hallway- which also only existed in my dream). She kept trying to steal my money, which for some reason I pulled out of my backpack (it was like 300 dollars). Then I got into an argument with her about being greedy or something, she eventually managed to escape with a man with an eye patch and some other guy in a suit, they flew off in their helicopter.
pretty strange, but thats how it happened.
but the bands played good!

well, i just got back. id have to say overall the show was a half decent success. we definetly gave jarrods place the best metal show of its existence.

tons of thank yous go out to all the people who came down to see all the bands. another bunch of thanks go out to all the bands who played.

thanks to the guys in umbrella for coming down on such short notice to play.

oh yeah, a big NO THANKS to the guys in progressive dementia and our fate ends for being no shows and leaving me with an hour and a half of silence.

toggletoggle post by Terence   at Jun 23,2003 4:06am
Also a huge no thanks to the bands that didn't stick around for the end the accursed tore it up, all the bands in my opinion were great, I just wish that they would have shown some respect and stuck around for the other bands, it's only fair, no excuses.

TYAG would have stayed to catch the other sick bands that were playing but unfortinatly all of us had to work the next day (early!) and had to drop our shit off at our studio and we made it home about 1:30-1:45am and now we have to go to work.

Thanks to Blue for putting our dumb asses on this show!
Thanks to all the kids who said they liked us, and to Umbrella for splitting a set with us!

Oh yeah and thanks to Jarrod's for giving us all such a hard time. Fuck you all that run that place, dont expect us back!

warning: this review is written on 2.5 hours of sleep.

P.S.: I didn't know what to expect from these guys, but for some reason, I wasn't expecting much. I was very surprised. their set was very good and they did a cephalic carnage "cover".

Our Fate Ends: noshow

Progressive Dementia: noshow

A Terrible Night For A Curse: I spent most of the set trying to figure out if I liked them or not. Part would be great and then part would sound like nu-metal. very confusing. Their drummer also used a trigger set instead of a real drum-set, but it sounded really good.

Spider Gates: at first they were kind-of doomy with keyboards and a female singer, but after a song or two they played mostly instrumental old school imortal-esque black metal minus the hate-fuzz. The set sounded good, but was basically one long song so it got to be a little tiring after a while.

Raising Kubrick: I liked the first few songs, but the last few tracks, the females singers vocals seemed less controlled, going from something that sound a bit like arch enemy to something more of just a scream with evil-sounding vocie around it.

A Cold Reality: 3 songs intrumental and then a few songs with a friend of theirs singing. the instrumentals where ok. I think I wasn't in the mood for instrumentals at all so I lost interest. The last song they played I swore was a shadows fall cover (crushing belial), but I don't think it actually was. They are still looking for a singer.

Terminally, Your Aborted Ghost: wow, this was awsome. TYAG has gone through a line up switch as of late, but with the great spaldino and nick (lftd) it sounds awesome. I also here they are trying out one more member, but shhhhh...

Umbrella: what an awesome set by them. They were add to the bill basically after the show was started, splitting a set with tyag. it was so good that people where jumping onto the stage and rolling into the band.

Bane Of Existence: The singer (doug) was sick (actually I bet he was pleasing a lady repetively instead of playing, what a homo) so boe went singer less and did a pretty sick instrumental set. Though, check my previous comment about not being in the mood for instruments so I watched from a far.

Ascendancy: great set, they played much better than the night before and sounded so much better. The 2 guitarist even walked out into the crowd while playing. Now, buy the bassist a wireless kit so she so the whole band, minus the drummer can stand in the audience.

The Accursed: These guys rocked out and they even played a slayer cover. It was pretty late by this point, but they still played really good. the sound was iffy for they for some reason, I think the sound guy was just trying to get them done to get the show over.

toggletoggle post by xmikex at Jun 23,2003 11:34am
so i showed up and some stupid band was playing and they were terrible. Raising Kubrick shouldn't have even shown up they were that awful. ACR has come a long way in the time that I've known them, but I disagree with their decision to do a show without a singer.

Terminally and Umbrella rocked that gay bar to the fucking ground. AWSOME performances by each band. These are 2 bands I'm really really excited about. It's just too bad that the crowd for the show was basically the attleboro mall and couldn't get their collective 9 second attention span together in time to see either of these bands. Not their faults, they probably got distracted by something shiny (fags).

I didn't get to see Ascendancy or BOE cuz my ride wanted to leave, plus i had seen them the night before. On top of that I had zero ambition to remain at Jarrods. Just so everyone knows JARRODS FUCKING SUCKS. If you book a show there you're gay. If you think it's a good idea to book an all day show at jarrods you should eat a cyanide sandwich with a side of AIDS. And nope it didn't look like any of the other bands were sticking around to watch ANYONE, but what else do you expect from a bunch of faggy nu metal kids.

ps. pantera sucks.

toggletoggle post by Maggot at Jun 23,2003 2:07pm
This show was pretty messed up. I had never been to Jarrod's before, so I'm not sure if that is the usualy crowd size.

ps. i think i'll take your advice and book a show of my own. im tired of knobs like you booking one Night of the Living Shit after another. 2000 bands that draw 3 people each in an all day crap fest. What ever happened to putting effort into putting together a good quality show so people can come and have a good time? Whatever happened to booking REAL headliners instead of whoever you can get to play for free? Whatever happened to kids booking shows for the sake of putting on quality fun shows, not just to find an excuse for people to see their crappy band? Whatever happened to shows where people could have fun and dance without having to sit through 6 hours of bands they'll never care about?

These shows are still there but they're so few and far between with all the bullshit shows that boners like you book it's like they don't even exist. So yes smartass I will book a better show, and no your douchebag mall metal band won't be asked to play.

i dont care that you didn't like my band, cause i proably wouldn't like yours... i just want you to know that someone took a lot of time and effort to put on a show that people who like metal could go to and have a good time at.... sorry it wasn't to your liking.... also why go to a show where your wasting your time, money and precious life when all your going to do is make fun of every one there except for your friends..... thats not right.... next time dude dont go to the show.... it would be benificial to you and the rest of the people who went there to have a good time..... sorry for the threats, thats not me. some time emotions get the better of us....................

C'mon now, why fight when we can all do this?

Thats what I thought.

I had fun, saw all but the first band, and liked most of em. I'd say it was a decent show with more people than Jarrod's is used to for metal. Could've been better, could've been worse, but it was still a lot of fun, and the 20 people that didn't leave after Umbrella are all my new best friends.
Yeah.

tyag as well as a lot of people should have stayed to see ascendency. so fucking intense. i had to drive 2 1/2 hours to get home in the rain and I still stayed for about 4 accursed songs. I had to work at 7am too. so choke on a boner.

Jarrods wouldn't be a bad place if they actually had a sign by the street so people knew where it was. The fucking thing is underground. They have a REAL PA and other gear unlike most any elks lodge or whatever the fuck. People also should book shows there on fridays' or saturdays' with at least one BIG headlining band to draw.

P.S. - Missed their set.

Our Fate Ends - So fucking glad these assmunchers didn't show up. wooot. no eminem cover songs.

A Terrible Night For A Curse - I still don't know what to think about these guys. One minute I was like yeaah, then like naaaah. Blast beats one minute then a new fear factory sound the next. The electric drums sounded pretty tight.

Spider Gates - A bad cradle of filth cover band. Trying to look scary with a bad makeup job. Had a girl with cleavage on stage for one song and all she did was go 'ahhhhh ahhhhhh ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh' out of pitch. Super long songs with no interesting riffs going on. Each boring riff played for 5 minutes.

Raising Kubrick - Not bad, Dual Guy/ Girl vocals. The guys vocals were pretty good, and the girls just sounded like she was getting raped. Good stage presence overall. Cool to see girls getting into this shit.

A Cold Reality - Bad choice to play a show with no vocals. Good guitarring as well as drums. Just got tiring after a while.

Terminally, Your Aborted Ghost - Devon sucks at death vocals.... not really. Matt doesn't play guitar upsidedown/backwards.... not really. Spaldino fucking 17 year old madman on bass. Nick a bit better at drums than he was in letters from the dead.

Umbrella - Played last minute... was decent I guess. A lot of energy which is always good as long as the music is tight. I don't remember either guitar players ever being in as the sun sets. Though I can hear the resemblence to them. These kind of bands will never compare to old as the sun sets even if there are ex members in the band. Don't even try.

Bane Of Existence - I needed a rest so I just sat back and watched the drummer who is pretty fucking good. Another band who shouldn't have played without a singer, but whatever. Its cool.

Ascendancy - Missed them the previous night in Stoughton, they fucking rip it up though. fuck. Mike is so god damn fast he burnt holes in his hands. Terrence can pull of his vocals along with the fast riffs. Sharleen knows how to play bass, she needs to put on a metal face when she plays though, or headbang. heh. Seth has some endurance, this guy could probably hump 8 million girls in one night and not even break a sweat. The only thing that could be improved upon is the guitar sound, real amps with cabs would definetly improve the sound of this band a lot.

The Accursed - Caught about 4 of their songs before deciding it was time to make the journey home. They have some really good guitar sections. I still don't know how I feel about the vocals throughout. One of the guitar players had a sick yngwie malmsteen style shirt on. hehe. He needs the cross bracelets though. Someone needs to tell the bass player that smoking while you play is not good for the lungs, and not cool anymore. heh. Though he was wearing an Evergrey shirt which shows he knows what good music is. Glad I stuck around for them unlike almost everyone else.

Good show, wish people stuck around longer...

As far a the Cradle of filth cover band comment Ihave three things to say. 1. I always felt that the opening song was more influenced by early Borknagar. 2. They makeup was shitty. We didn't even know what it looked like until we put it on. My bad, I bought it. 3. It was my leather vest wasn't it? (Ha!) Well you gotta try try things at least once.

As far as the "each riff being five minutes" comment, that is an exaggeration. The first song was eight minutes and the second song was 15 minutes. Each song has multiple riffs, sometimes they are just played more than once or repeated in a new key. The longer song does not have a completed set of lyrics. Maybe it will have a greater impact when they are finished.

Ah, its refreshing to know that you can always count on massive shit-talking after every show here on Return To The Pit.

Thanks to Ascendancy, Bane of Existence, and all the fuckers that came up for the accursed for sticking around. Everyone in the accursed also have jobs early in the morning and didn't want to play so late, so I dont feel bad for you people that had to get up, we had all just driven 16 hours sunday from North Carolina to play that fest. You didnt want to stay, its ok to say so. Tom had a long ass drive to make and doesnt even really like The Accursed and he still stayed for a few songs. However I didn't expect anyone to stay at all.

For everyone that missed Ascendancy, sucks for you, they were awesome. Wireless mayhem!

So anyway, thanks to everyone who hung out past everyone elses bedtime, you guys are awesome.

FYI: For the new comers to this board, there is no point in talking to xmikex, he never shuts his mouth.

i would like to say that people just need to get along... we all need to stop fighting and just listen to metal, isn't that what we all go out to those shows for... so that we can all get down and dirty to some face pounding, ball smashing good old fucking metal, c'mon isn't that what its all about.... i was at the show lat night and i thought every fucking band there fucking rocked my nutz off.. for fuck sake it was hours of nothing but the music i love to listen to... jesus christ.... i guess thats all i wanted to say..... thank you and stay true to yourselves and our scene.... for the love of satan....

the views/opinions/unneccesary costant rebuttle posts of pete/blight in no way reflect ANY of the opinions of the members of raising kubrick/spider gates. everybody likes their own music. big deal.

toggletoggle post by blue  at Jun 23,2003 10:15pm
oh yeah, and a million thanks to all the bands/people who attended. ill try this again, next time at a far superior venue.

toggletoggle post by tyagxgrind   at Jun 23,2003 11:00pm
hey blue, i heard some shit was broken, did they make you pay for it? thanks again for hooking up Umbrella for us. i'm glad they were able to play.

toggletoggle post by blue  at Jun 23,2003 11:07pm
thanks for asking devon. they gave me some shit for umbrella rocking too hard. that and the late night sound guy gave me shit for having them play. even though the sound guy before him knew what was happening and failed to update him. they need to get their shit straight. they were following some super old band schedule i sent to jarrod 3 months ago, that has been updated numerous times, yet he failed to read all the emails regarding new schedules. fuck them. new venue suggestions would be helpful.

toggletoggle post by Terence   at Jun 23,2003 11:45pm
Thanks to Tom and Pam for the kind words, and blue for setting up the show, I don't understand why people keep ragging him, setting up a show is a pain in the ass, no matter what venue you are at. Also thanks to the bands that stuck around. There is too much garbage going on, you people are making me as cynical as XmikeX for gods sakes. hah. Stop whining everybody. As far as getting a headliner for a local show, it sucks. No bands want to headline. Even All That Remains didn't want to headline for that Stoughton show... in my opinion they are headlining material, and what is even worse is if you get in touch with a huge touring band fully capable of headlining, they have unbelievable demands, and always want to play a show with another band as big as they are, and then that band will have demands! Of course I'm talking about death metal, other genres might be different. Life sucks, the scene sucks, everybody is gay. I am in a death metal band, I love playing death metal, I cant stand the bullshit that comes with it.

i didn't go, sorry.

thank you all for your opinions. Special thanx to tyag for letting us share a set and putting the extra effort to get us on. Thank you blue for letting us play. Sorry if we caused any destruction.

<<FYI: For the new comers to this board, there is no point in talking to xmikex, he never shuts his mouth. >>
goddamn right. she learned this the hard way in an argument that went past 2am and some how ended in thumb wrestling....?

terrence you're preaching to the choir when it comes to unreasonable headlining bands. It's the whole metal rock star thing where no one wants to have anything to do with a show unless it's downstairs at the palladium and Immortal is playing. Just grab them by the neck and say "YOU ARE NOT RONNIE JAMES DIO AND YOU NEVER WILL BE"

i hate all of you, goodnight

heh. this is entertaining. i went to the show, got there right before Spider Gates and left when some guy who worked there was shouting at me to get the fuck out and no, i had to go through the front door, not the band door. yeah.

anyway, i drove 13 hours to get there coming from a Metal Fest in North Carolina. i went to see 3 of my friends' bands (Raising Kubrick/A Terrible Night/Spider Gates) along with a lot of other kick ass bands i enjoyed. i'm always a big BOE fan. The Accursed also kicked ass, as usual. so did Ascendancy.

i got loaded. i had fun.

toggletoggle post by baneofexistence at Jun 24,2003 9:05pm
thanks for digging us

why were you booted from the show?

toggletoggle post by kellthevalkyrie  at Jun 24,2003 9:49pm
oh, i was just hanging out too long after the last band went on stage. heh. i guess they wanted to "close" or something. everytime i go out to jarrod's to a show i end up having a killer time. it always rocks. however, the staff there all need to work on their attitude problems. heh.
