Awesome movie. Daniel Day-Lewis owns Leonardo in this one. Easily one of my favorite villians ever, even though he hates us Irish. It was good to see Scorsese do a film not about Italian gangs. Very well done all around. Interesting history lesson too.

it's ok he can hate us Irish, he dies in the end !

Just saw this all the way through finally.

I liked it a lot, Marty is the man

WHAT'LL IT BE THEN
RIB OR CHOP
LOIN OR SHANK

DDL is the fucking man

Yeah DDL is just phenomenal in this film. Leo is decent. I'm a pretty big fan of Leo's acting once he grew out of his pretty-boy phase, but I don't think this is one of his stronger performances. Overall the movie is flawed but is saved by DDL's incredible abilities as an actor.

I know your works. You are neither cold nor hot. So because you are lukewarm, I will spew you out of my mouth. You can build your filthy world without me. I took the father. Now I'll take the son. You tell young Vallon I'm gonna paint Paradise Square with his blood. Two coats. I'll festoon my bedchamber with his guts. As for you, Mr. Tammany-fucking-Hall, you come down to the Points again, and you'll be dispatched by my own hand. Get back to your celebration and let me eat in peace.

This movie fucking rules, and the book is pretty amazing as well. The book's nonfiction too, written in the 20's by Herbert Asbury, who worked for a newspaper at the time. It's really interesting stuff.

Quite ironic that Daniel-Day Lewis' character hates the Irish don't you think???

Great movie though

festoon

I hate how the dvd is on two fucking discs
seriously annoys me
the movie isnt that long, no need for it to be on two disks
movie on one, special feature on the other is understandable but fuck, who wants to change dvds in the middle of a movie

He's only half-Irish.

DDL was great in this. Leo D was bearable -- I normally can't stand the little douche.

toggletoggle post by ouchdrummer   at Aug 22,2008 9:21am
great great movie. one of my favs. I wholeheartedly agree about LeoD, I hate em 99% of the time, but he was alright in this.

I gotta see There Will be Blood again.

He can drink my milkshake any time.

i thought there will be blood was kinda slow. still good, but kinda slow. the end was unreal though. i loved watching him beat the preacher to death. good times.

You loved watching it? I thought that was one of the most horrifying moments in any film released last year. It was just the utter embodiment of the spite and hatred that had completely consumed Plainview's mind, and it was total unflinching cruelty. I thought it was amazing, but not easy to watch at all.

You say to-May-to, I say to-Mah-to. I smiled ear-to-ear through that entire scene.

Eli had it coming.
what a fucking hypocrite from hell, gyad.

all that time during the church scene, totally goading and humiliating Daniel, I was like "oooooooo, not good. Wrong person to F with."
