youre insane. zakk wylde can play circles around anyone on this board. i only like his stuff with ozzy though.

have you ever seen him play a live solo?
If you have, and youre not impressed, then youre not watching close enough.

yes, I didn't say anyone on this board, especially I, was better than him. I'm merely saying from what I've heard from Ozzy, to BLS, none of the guitar playing was really revolutionary or anything.

Ohh I totally agree, but when he goes out and does his 20 minute solo at live shows, like I said yesterday, I had NO idea how good he actually is.

I say nay simply because black label society makes me want to end my existance... ( over use of pinch harmonics and silly hick lyrics) stuff with ozzy is great however, he can definitely play a mean solo

yeah, maybe I'm missing something, or haven't heard a certain song or whatever. I've heard 2 BLS albums, one heavy, one mellow...and some of the new ozzy stuff. I may have heard one solo that sounded pretty good. You'd think with BLS he'd go even more crazy with guitar shit since it's his material.

As far as guitar virtuoso's, I'd pick Vai/Malmsteen over Wylde anyday.

i dunno dude. to each his own i suppose. but any guy who goes out of his way to pick every note of his solos and not use any hammer on/pull offs is pretty kickass in my book.

I love pinch harmonics just as much as the next guy, but yeah, I think wylde does overuse them in a couple of songs that I know of.

ya I also agree, he does those, vibrato pulls at the end of all of his pinches, and I think that takes away from the coolness of a pinch harm.

theres tasteful use, and then theres overuse. Chuck was great for throwing in a nice tasty pinch here and there, but zakk wylde needs to calm the fuck down with those

and the low string pinches, that comprise basically the entire riff I find repulsive and annoying after awhile

P.S. BLS is music he writes drunk in the studio, its not really pre-written, he even goes back and has to relearn the lyrics before he goes on tour. zakk's a drunken mess, but a cool dude, ive met him once before.

book of shadows is incredible. i like that one alot. pride and glory is good too. bls and ozzy aren't his best.

Book of Shadows is the best I've heard. Pride and Glory is good too. He gets too into the whole vertuoso shit instead of writing songs like he used to.

Now he's doing a shitty nu metal ozzy impression on everything. Going down hill just like the rest.

Zakk Wylde is a talented guy, but I don't think he's a great songwriter; his days with Ozzy were much better. I love his playing on Ozzmosis, and with Geezer on bass and Dean Castranova on drums he had an awesome backing band, which he seems to lack on the solo stuff.

Also: for most blatant abuse of pinch harmonics (and there are many) see Crazy Babies. Man, the production on that album is terrible. It sounds like you're listening through a hole in the ground, and Ozzy and the band are playing in a cave 30 feet down.

highly overrated. his earlier stuff was good, but then all of a sudden he decided to go super radio rock and proclaim himself a metal god, when what he does nowadays is far from metal. and he definetly gets waaaay too many mentions in guitar magazines.

I'm going to stand up for Blue here. Zakk Wylde is good, but I think he is greatly overrated. On top of that, he just does pentatonics and harmonics. And he just pushes down that wah pedal to dirty up the sound so it sounds better than it is. There are tons of better people out there so I really don't even waste my time with him. Overrated.
