CULT OF LUNA IN ROLLING STONE

A review of apocalyptic noise-niks Cult Of Luna's upcoming Earache debut, "The Beyond", is slated to be the lead metal review in issue #921 of Rolling Stone magazine! It is a rare event indeed for a band as extreme as Cult Of Luna to infiltrate the pages of Rolling Stone, so hats off to Cult Of Luna! This issue hits newsstands on April 11.

***

CULT OF LUNA BEGIN WORK ON FIRST VIDEO

Cult Of Luna have begun work on their first video, for the track "The Watchtower", off their brand new Earache debut "The Beyond". At the helm is acclaimed UK director Pete Bridgewater, whose work can be seen all over the Videos page on earache.com -- Bridgewater has been the man behind the camera for such clips as Mortiis' "Parasite God" and "Mental Maelstrom", December's "Host", and most recently The Haunted's too-grisly-for-TV "D.O.A."

DECEMBER'S NEW AXE-SLINGER...

...is none other than December vocalist Mark Moots! While at home this month, writing and rehearsing material for the follow-up to their critically-hailed Earache debut, "The Lament Configuration", the December boys decided to give their sound a boost by handing Moots a guitar and letting him rip. Moots (a seasoned axe-slinger who has until now kept his guitar wizardry a secret from his December fans but in fact wrote many a December riff!) rose to the challenge and it now looks likely the next December album will feature his playing, alongside that of main guitarist Julian Peach.

***

DECEMBER: THRASH OR BE THRASHED

December have contributed a track to the new Blackfish Records thrash tribute comp, "Thrash or Be Thrashed", out now in the UK. December chose the 1990 Death Angel classic, "Seemingly Endless Time", delivering an amazingly faithful cover of the blistering original and giving brutal screamer Mark Moots a rare opportunity to showcase his clean-vocal abilities. Also featured on the track is shredder Ryan Hall on lead guitar.

DECEMBER SALUTE EARTHTONE 9

December have been tapped to appear on a forthcoming Earthtone 9 tribute album, alongside such bands as Lostprophets and Pitchshifter, due out on Copro Records later this year.

DEICIDE DRUMMER JOINS PREMIER DRUMS ROSTER

Deicide's Steve Asheim has scored a prestigious endorsement deal with UK-based drum manufacturer, Premier. Other Earache drummers currently on Premier's elite roster include The Haunted's basher, Per Moeller-Jensen.

THE HAUNTED DOMINATE THE U.S. RADIO CHARTS!

Congratulations to The Haunted whose new thrash epic, "One Kill Wonder", is now in its fourth week at #1 on all three of the crucial US metal radio charts: the CMJ Loud Rock Chart, the CMJ Loud Rock Spins Chart and the FMQB Metal Detector Chart. Can "One Kill Wonder" dominate the charts longer than The Haunted's last album, "The Haunted Made Me Do It"? Only time will tell!

THE HAUNTED'S "D.O.A." VIDEO TOO VIOLENT FOR TV!

Before even being formally submitted to the execs at MTV2 and MuchMusic, The Haunted's new video "D.O.A." was deemed too violent for airplay by a MuchMusic producer who cited one particular "tooth-pulling scene" as being "just too much". Taking the man's advice, director Pete Bridgewater immediately started work on an edited version. Of course, the uncensored version will be viewable in all its glory on earache.com in the Videos section, and will be featured on our upcoming dvd comp, i-Crusher-2, but stay tuned to MTV2 and MuchMusic for the cleaner version, coming soon!

MORTIIS "THE SMELL OF RAIN" REMIX VERSION OUT NOW

Mortiis shocked and amazed fans and critics with the new direction he took on his last album, 2001's "The Smell Of Rain" -- stepping away from his trademark instrumental soundscapes and taking a bold detour into the world of darkwave dance music. Now, Mortiis delves deeper into the dance music world, releasing a remix version of "The Smell Of Rain", featuring remixes of four of the album's best tracks by some of electronic music's key players -- ambient minimalist and Hollywood composer Lustmord; New York house DJ Raven Fox; and Swedish drum n' bass/noise up and comer Tarmvred. The "The Smell Of Rain" remix version contains the original "The Smell Of Rain" album in its entirety plus the new bonus tracks, and stands as further proof of the intensely unique and independent nature of Mortiis -- an artist who never fails to follow his own visions down whatever road they might lead!

SOCIETY 1'S "EXIT THROUGH FEAR" OUT NOW

"Exit Through Fear", the madly anticipated Earache debut album from Matt Zane (aka Lord Nexus) and his band of merry merauders, is set to hit US stores on Tuesday, April 8. Those who have seen Society 1 live in concert or checked out the band's groundbreaking video on MuchMusic's "Uranium" (featuring footage of Matt Zane's suspension -- the first suspension performed by a singer in a music video!) have a good idea what to expect from S1's debut: pounding, industrial rhythms, ballistic guitars, and Matt Zane's extreme, hedonistic visions. "Exit Through Fear" is already earning S1 comparisons in the press to Marilyn Manson, NIN, and Ministry. Pick up "Exit Through Fear" and enter Zane's uncensored world of hate, lust, pain, and debauchery. Look for Society 1 on tour in the US this spring with Pissing Razors, 40 Grit, and Luxt.

SOCIETY 1 ON UK'S CHANNEL 5 TV!

Society's 1 frontman Matt Zane and guitarist Sin were recently filmed by UK's Channel 5 Network TV for a forthcoming documentary entitled "Naked Ambition". Channel 5's Bruce and Harry spent a typical friday night with Matt and Sin -- cruising the infamous Sunset Strip in a stretch limo with a bevy of beautiful porn stars, going to band practice, eating dinner at the famous Rainbow Bar and Grill, shopping at the Hustler store, visiting Matt's tattooist at Sunset Tattoo, and ending up at a fetish party for the launch of new magazine, Swag. A good time was had by all... including a guy who looks suspiciously like US label boss Al Dawson's twin brother.

Also interviewed for the Channel 5 special were Playboy's Hugh Hefner and Hustler's Larry Flynt. The special is scheduled to air May 5th on Channel 5 at 9pm.

Special thanks to Theresa at Hustler, Rainbow Bar and Grill, Mike the limo driver, Paul at Sunset Tattoo, Cailey Taylor, Devon, and of course the one and only, truly original Tabitha Stevens!!!

USURPER CELEBRITY PHOTO SHOOT

Usurper joined the ranks of Guns N' Roses and Judas Priest this week as the Chicago beer-swillers were immortalized in a photo shoot by legendary rock photographer Paul Natkin. Over his 20-year career, Natkin has shot all the great rock and metal bands, from AC/DC to ZZ Top... to Usurper! This is the guy who snapped the pic of Ozzy and Randy Rhoads that wound up on the cover of "Tribute"! Usurper's new modern-day metal classic, "Twilight Dominion", hits stores this month.
