New site? Maybe some day.
umm ok
so i guess most places are charging for delivery?
blah
anyone else hear about this?
yes..i think so too...
i'm like ..."no tip then" i figured they were getting the $$$ but apparently you still have to tip
even if the place is a few miles away....w t f ? |
you don't have to do shit. unless you want spit in your pie
Good think I have not even a 2 minute walk to my nearest pizza place and their pizza is the best. Represent bitches! |
I live literally across the street from Pizza Plus. I was to lazy to walk over their so I had it delivered. They charged $3 for delivery fees so I gave the lady a 1.50 tip and she made a bitch commit to me about it. |
as i was saying before.....
last weekend on phantom gourmet (ya shut up i dont have cable i watch whatever channel is coming in without snow)they were saying that most pizza places in hte coming months/year will start adding a delivery charge due to the higher gas prices and higher insurence costs..... these delivery charges cover that for the resturaunt so the driver still isnt getting anything out of this.

when i was in college i ordered a pizza from Papa Ginos and had it delivered.... i paid and tipped the guy $5.... i take the pizza inside and look at hte lil slip and printed from the computer on it is "fuck i hate delivering to clark they give shit tips"
i was pissed.... called the store and the manager was like "he gave u that i saw it on the way out and told him not to" so i called the corporate office and complained about the manager and the driver heheheh |
i hope they gave you a free pizza or something after all that!!! fuxxors
so what do people think i should tip?
ps: i would have gone to pick it up but the driveway is being paved and i have a good parking spot so i don't wanna move |
Tip regularly, its not the drivers fault the place charges for delivery. |
on another note...
there is this pizza place (i forget the name)..but the last 3 times we ordered from it..they messed up...and it's like $20 for a large (sun dried tomatoes and ricotta)
anyhow...i called and let them know...and the guy said he was sending a coupon for a free pizza but we never got it...
yeah i just talked to the guy and he confirmed it had nothing to do with him..he doesn't get any $$$ then he said i didn't have to tip him if i didn't want....he was really nice..i gave him $4 |
FUCK ALL YOU LOW INSURANCE PAYING, NO SALES TAX MOTHER FUCKERS WHO BITCH ABOUT PAYING AN EXTRA BUCK OR 2 FOR DELIVERY!!!!!!!! |
but to be civil for once, you never give more than $5 for tipping the delivery guy. i hate the fact that tipping is expected to begin with. i mean it is his job to deliver me that pizza. that is what he's being paid to do. if he got it to me 5 minutes after i made the order, or he helped me set the table or some crazy shit like that, then i understand tipping. but i hate that he's doing what he's supposed to do and i'm expected to tip for it. i believe tipping is only for when you go above and beyond your job and take that extra step to make the customer happy. |
btw in montreal you NEVER GET CHARGED FOR DELIVERY
but taxes are 15.56% |

easy for you to say that, you have money. oh wait now that you guys have to pay $3 for delivery, you're all gonna have to file for bankruptcy (sp?) boo fucking hoo hoo |

i just noticed that i typed $4...but i gave him $3...i made a typo....

dammit |
I'd rather they just raise prices by a buck a pie or something. A large from a local place is only like $7.50 anyway, so even at $.50 to $1 more it's still a good deal (certainly compared to chains... That'll get you a Medium before tax, delivery charge and tip from Domino's I believe). |
ok so i looked at the receipt..it's $1 charge for delivery...totall $11.55 for 2 large cheese pizza's from Dominoes
i had this coupon valid tuesdays only buy 1 large get one large free |

i do that too |

the only place that charges for delivery here is pizza slut, but that's OK since i'm sick of 'em anyway. we have a pizza slut at work, so the thought of their pizza makes me sick at times. |
Pizza hut is SHIT. They roast that shit in 8 OUNCES of oil for every pan pizza.
Secondly, you're all completely clueless about the costs of doing business. Would you prefer if I school you on the reason for these charges, and why you should still tip? Or would you prefer to just stop whining and pay the damned fee or learn to cook.
Sorry to be rude, but I've managed restaurants for a pizza company for the last 6 years, and when customers whine and bitch I gotta bite my tongue and kiss their ass. But you guys, I can tell you guys to fuck off. |
Thirdly, about the charges. We raised the price of a pizza by $1 over the last year. We kept our $1 delivery charge the same. That's a 10% increase in cost. The price of cheese to us DOUBLED. That's a 48% increase in cost. To keep our profit margins the same as a year ago, we SHOULD be charging like $5 more a pizza, since gas prices, cheese cost, labor, and new health and federal laws requiring additional training and expenses are fucking hard working shitheads like myself our raises. I got a shit $15 a week raise, and I'm the best at what I do in my region. PLUS, we have to pinch pennies on labor so badly that I'm pretty much running shorthanded all the time just to meet budgeted expectations.
I'm sorry to tell you this guys, but you customers just aren't worth the fucking I recieve daily. I think once in a while people should just shut the fuck up, or go home and make thier own pizza. |

i hope yer not talking about me...
i was just surprised because i never paid (or heard of) delivery charges...so chill out
i didn't rip the delivery guy off either...i had never heard this before
i don't rip them off or anything either, i'm just stating my opinion about tipping. as for the delivery charges, i understand them, i got no problem with them. dude i worked at kmart for nearly 2 years. it's just as bad as the restaurant business, so trust me, i know how u feel about shitty customers |
its interesting how a place i go to charges $4 for a small pizza and $7 for a large....and then other places charge upwards to $20 for a large pizza.
arrowhead i understand customers can be assholes... but without a happy customer fan base you will have no business. |
I didnt read this whole thread, but being a pizza delivery guy, the charge is there so that if someone stiffs you, at least we get something. I hook up my friends all the time, as Joe knows , so I make it worth it for good customers. |
Lynneaus said: its interesting how a place i go to charges $4 for a small pizza and $7 for a large..... |
Yeah, cause there is most likely 2 guys behind the counter. They don't pay for advertising, uniforms, commercials, and eqiupment like we do. When we make a pizza, we pay only about $2.75 for the ingredients. Now add in the cost of the 20 minutes we pay the driver to wait for it, deliver it, and come back, all at an hourly wage of $6.75-9. That brings cost up to around $4.50. Now, add in the guy making the pizza, the other 2-10 employees on the clock, and the overhead (rent, gas, electric, etc...) and the cost is completely understandable.
WHen you go to a joint that sells pizzas for $4, there's a reason. It's either a family restaurant where there's no hourly help or advertising costs, or they use shit ingredients, or else they keep getting raped by bigger and better places with superior product so they're desperately trying to win business.
Again, the charge is justified, trust me. I dig through these figures on a daily basis. Hell, even I wouldn't pay for one of our pizzas, I can't aford it. However, I can completely understand every charge we make. If I opened my own place, maybe I'd charge less because my cost would be less.
And Terence, if you get stiffed, the order gets cancelled, along with the driver fee. It's actually there to pay for your reimbursment. (drivers get a $.65 reimbursment per delivery) and the rest goes to offset the cost of delivery equipment and driver pay. By the way, tell Gary the Agar driver I said "hi". I got transferred, so he hasn't seen me in a bit.
no im talking about if I get stiffed on a tip, which happens alot, not if the order has to get cancelled because it is a prank or nobody is home. I know about the reimbursement, ive been there for 3 years silly goose! I see Gary tomorrow i'll tell him you said hi! |

I don't know what chain you work for... But nothing above justifies actually paying that higher cost... Especially cause local pizza parlors usually deliver much tastier product in just as much time (and with a larger menu to choose from). Certainly I'd say consumers are better off speaking with their dollars than complaining about the high prices, but I think it's a valid criticism to say "Fuck this, I'm not paying $12 + tip for a large pizza and another Bad Andy, Good Pizza ad."
It's a shame the advertising works so well, since so many people still pay way too much for average pizza... I am guilty too, since Dominos is open later than anything else around here, but when I have the option, I'll go with the better bargain and better pizza from the local shop hands down.
Instead of bitching about the customers, why not question why your place's advertising budget is so high or why the corporate offices in Bumfuck, Arkansas need such a big cut per pie? |
word of mouth from happy customers and a good product is the best advertising a place could ever get.....
B & F all the way |
actually, having a bunch of naked super models outside your shop is the best advertising you could ever get |

not if you are the one saying the are "hot" |

dominos came an hour and 45 minutes after I ordered it on friday. I got the pizza for free plus free breadsticky thingys.
Free pizza is what this country is all about. |
hmmm when the rev and i were in NJ and ordered it..it would take OVER an hour and it was $$$ |
Meet lovers pizza from Pizza Hut is where it's at! Sure, it'll probably take five years off my life, but those are the shitty five years I can't do shit with myself so whatever!
And I agree with everything the Arrowhead dude is saying, and you can sit there and bitch and say that what company x is doing for advertising and all that crap is unnecessary, but that's just business in commercial America. Advertising raises the costs of EVERYTHING, CD's, cars, clothes, why the hell should food be any different? |
succubus said: hmmm when the rev and i were in NJ and ordered it..it would take OVER an hour and it was $$$ |
Hahaha I remember that!! It got to the point where the dudes delivering were just showing up with a shitload of pizza and selling it first come, first served! |
yeah but i was referring to hellfest...but come to think of it...hardcore and metal fest was the same (where you were too) |
Actually, our corporate offices are in Dedham Ma. Also, We put maybe one commercial on TV a year, during football season. In addition, about a year or two ago we did some taste testing and polls and people prefer our pizza by a landslide.
But Bestial Onslaught is right, why support a local pizza chain with good product and 300 restaraunts when you can line the pockets of Jamal and his 13 cousins who work for free at the local family pizza parlor.
By the way, I work for Papa Ginos. NOT Dominos. |
Papa Gino's fucking sucks. Every single person near my age that I've talked to agrees with me that some time around 1990 they changed something about how they make pizza, because we all loved it when we were kids and it sucks now.
BTW People named Jamal make shitty pizza with fake cheese. Find a local place run by guys named Tony and Sal and Angelo and you'll get good pizza.
Also, stay away from any pizza place named after something greek. You want italians.
In fact, where I live, there are no chains. They all went out of business, destroyed by the local competition. Dominoes is gone, Little Ceasars is gone, and Pizza Hut has been reduced to a split restaruant with a Taco Bell that only serves personal pizzas.
Where can i find a little ceasars???? |
Amattos in Toronto is really where its at with pizza |
Greek pizza is way better then italian.
Vinny makes the best pizza, find a vinny and you are golden. |
Joe/NotCommon said: Greek pizza is way better then italian. |
I think lack of alcohol has ruined your taste buds. Not all greek pizza sucks, and there are plenty of wops who don't know what the fuck they're doing, but if you take the best italian pizza vs. the best greek pizza, the guineas are gonna kick ass over the sheepfuckers every time.
No way, Greek pizza is definately better. The crust is better, and it's not flat and gay.
I think hanging around Nick has warped your sense of taste. |
I disagree about the crust but even if that is true, greeks use horrible sauce and most of em' don't use real cheese, they use that processed "cheese food" crap.
But seriously, I don't think someone who's never scarfed a large pizza and washed it down with a pitcher or a 6 pack is really qualified to judge.
Judging from how Nick's house smells, I don't think his family is exactly made up of Italy's finest chefs.

For the record, all the testing that we've done show that our pizza is preferred to all our competitors, but our target market is definately not kids your age, so you might be onto something there.
As far as changing the pizza, in the early 90's some restaurants changed from traditional rotary ovens to deck or conveyor ovens, so the Papa Gino's near you might be using one of those. They don't quite make the pizza as crispy or as thoroughly cooked. However, I think the main difference is the people making the pizza. With the job market being the way it is, and our labor budgets constricted the way they are, it's damned hard to keep a pizza maker working for you long enough for them to get good at it. It's just too much work for too little pay. Unlike some places out there (like most of the greek places, or pizza hut, etc..) we don't use pans, we actually stretch and toss the dough ourselves. It's something that takes a lot of time and practice to get down right.
I am actually on your side here. I used to LOVE papa gino's pizza as a kid, now I won't even waste my time ordering one outside of work, because it's usually nasty and made by some 16 year old retard. But, if you were to come in and have a pizza I made (after 6 years, 5 days a week, 50 weeks a year of making pizzas) I assure you it would be the exact pizza you remember from when you were a kid.
Again, this brings us back to the complaints about charges, If I could actually afford to pay a pizza maker the $10 an hour they were worth, maybe I could trust that the pizzas were just as good when I wasn't making them as when I was.
Also, just for the info, In my opinion Crazy Dough has the best pizza around here. If you want better, you gotta go to New York.
The funny thing is, our slogan is "a passion for pizza", yet I think I'm one of the only people in the company who actually gives a shit. There's people in the corporate training department who don't even know as much about pizza as I do. Maybe we should all band together to start our own restaurant, I can make the pizza and manage, Terrence can drive delivery, Josh can be our taste tester, and we can do commercials with the Rev and Succubus "Heavy Metal Pizza! It makes you have bum sex!"
It'd be the best pizza joint ever. |
That would actually explain it. Those conveyor ovens make terrible pizza. Whenever I'm the road, jonesing for good pizza, and I see a conveyor oven in the pizza place I walk into I get wicked bummed out and hope there's another one nearby.
Absolutely. That's why Pizza (sl)Hut drowns thier pizza in oil and pans it. They use conveyor ovens, so they oil fries the pizza crust to make up for the lack of crispiness in the shitty oven. The oil in turn is the reason why I can finish an entire edition of the Boston Globe on the toilet after I eat there. |

I would NEVER fuck with the food someone was paying for, no matter how much I like or dislike them.
I seem hostile because if I speak my mind to customers I get in trouble (see my comments in the other thread about why I was demoted). Therefore, I tend to vent everything outside of work whenever the opportunity arises. Nothing personal, trust me.

The rev does, especially. I think I recognize you just from at shows, but there was a kid I went to school with that looks EXACTLY like the rev. I should go find some photos in a yearbook or something. Rev, you got any relatives in Carver?

Indeed... especially when the pizza is better and the prices are cheaper.
Who really cares about taste tests? I don't give a shit what the general public likes their pizza to taste like, I go by my own tastebuds.
As for the Greek vs. Italian debate, I prefer Greek pizza generally, but I do agree the best Italian places are supreme. They're not toooo easy to find though. I have both a Greek and an Italian place within a mile of me, and I go with the Greek 4 outta 5 times... Now if that Italian places was Regina's... different story. |
damn, i want some pizza now. |
