I said I don't like alot of death metal. Obviously I like some or I wouldn't book it.

I like Phantom Limb, Bane of Existence and Teratism.

Death Metal as a genre is so stetched right now, I don't even know if I like death metal anymore. What exactly is it? I'm just going to say I like oldschool grind and death.

Death metal is cool. Not as cool as grindcore but its still awsome.

toggletoggle post by Joe/NotCommon   at Sep 13,2004 3:46pm
I would call them more a blend of thrash and grind then I would death metal.

toggletoggle post by Joe/NotCommon   at Sep 13,2004 3:49pm
I don't like the way drums sound in alot of death metal recordings, and I also don't like how alot of death metal drummers who are suppose to be amazing, play so incredibly soft once they play fast.

Best drummers around here (with no challenge): Mike of Existence, John Gillis, Nelson, and Mike Adams. Anyone who disagrees with me is just foolish and is lying to themselves.

Death metal is gay and everyone should die

when joe made that statement, autopsy_666's jaw dropped to the ground and a little 10 year old on a bike with her dad rolled right in to his mouth and out his lower intestine.

thankfully for mike boe cause while they were intrenched in the bowel's of the beast, they were unable to hear him utter "so hot"

i agree. Its going in too many directions to label it all under death metal. (which in my opinion is a good thing). I like most death metal as long as its not technical to the point where its boring.

I also agree with joe, that when the DM drummer play really fast they become super soft. Triggers spoiled death metal drummers. Its cheating

a drummer can be good and use triggers. I don't see how it makes you a non-talented drummer if you use triggers...

alot of times triggers sound better than a mic-ed kick drum live.

i'm not saying that if a drummer uses triggers he sucks, because if you can do that shit even if it is soft, your amazing in my book. I have problems keeping a slow steady rock beat, but then again i'm not a drummer. From my understanding of them no matter how solf you hit the drum its still gonna come out the same volume. now i'm guessing that'd help alot for a gravity blast or something like that. its cheating. There are guys that can do shit like that having it loud as everthing else without triggers(still amplified tho), then there are guys who need triggers for it to be heard. whos a better drummer?

Death metal was cool at first, but got old around the mid 90s. That is, of course, excluding all the excellent bands who fuse other, better styles of music with it.

death metal is gay. you cant understand a single word heyre saying, its like a monkey throwing up on a mic. and theres no talent in it either, any idiot can make the drums go DIDIDIDIDIDIDIIDIDIDIDIDIDID. same with the guitar. learn to play, assholes. i only listen to the heavy stuff, like hatebreed and godsmack.

that's the point of triggers. that way you don't have to super compress drums and have it sound all gay. i don't know ANY drumer who has EVERY hit coming out at the same loudness without compression or triggers.

toggletoggle post by Dissector   at Sep 13,2004 6:53pm
I personally don't like triggers, I think it takes away from the raw brutallity aspect that death metal used to be. But some people like the compressed and clean sound better, we all have our opinions.

of course not, its called dynamics. i'm more or less talking about everything being able to be heard easily. Not every single thing you touch behind the drumset being the same volume. Thats anotherthing i dislike about tiggers, it takes away from the dynamics of the drumset.

but anyway this thread isn't about how i dislike triggers, its about if you like death metal or not.

1) a drum will be the same frequency of sound no matter how hard it's hit, but the amplitude will differ.
2) this is a thread about joe nc saying outside of the block that he didn't like death metal.

I wish some drummers would post on this stupid thread, that turned into " i dont really know much about triggers" thread.
Ok, triggers can take away dynamics(but this is metal, "i" have no need for that in my drum playing, and who use's dynamics on their kick drum playing in metal anyway)
Hitting a drum soft, then hitting loud, well thats a differance in VOLUME isnt it.
Eddie said:I also agree with joe, that when the DM drummer play really fast they become super soft. Triggers spoiled death metal drummers. Its cheating
OK,Grab a metronome, and play 16ths(4 hits per click) @ 70 bpm, now, play 16ths @ 220 bpm,.... yeah i bet your not clubing that snare as hard as you were @ 70 bpm. Ahhhhh, yeah, the faster you move your hand the less power you apply(for most drummers). Kinda like when you go running, and you try to run really fast and as time goes by you eventually start to s-l-o-w d-o-w-n.

Rusted said:i don't know ANY drummer who has EVERY hit coming out at the same loudness without compression or triggers.
Very true, cause its quite impossible. (Thats why drums get limited, compressed, automated, triggered or sampled in a recording situation).

So if triggers help drummers cheat, then V-8 motors help us "cheat" in going faster then a 4 cly.

Fuck labels.

I LOVE Death Metal.Heres some DM bands I like:

Cannibal Corpse
Malevolent Creation
Deicide
Vader
Six Feet Under(first 3 albums)
Bolt Thrower
Benediction
Sinister
Dying Fetus
Morbid Angel(only w/ Vincent)
Death
Suffocation
Monstrosity
Divine Empire
Unleashed
Mortician
etc...

I like some death metal, I hate dying fetus, I think devourment and those other bands Mike of Existence plays get kind of boring and monotonous sounding, and now he is probably to beat the shit out of me for saying it, but he hates most the stuff I listen to so we are even.
I prefer catchy music, and alot of death metal isn't really that catchy, except for the lame breakdowns that alot of death metal bands try to over use to please idiots. A good example of a great death metal band is PHANTOM LIMB, really interesting and catchy songs with some cool breakdowns and fun lyrics.

i'm not a huge death metal fan myself i only like Hate Eternal and Nile, can't really think of others, but of course i'm a huge fan of the local death metal bands like HCN, LEUKORRHEA, PORPHYRIA, and ASCENDANCY all fucking talented and rule, i guess for me it's just the vocals that ruin most death metal bands for me

toggletoggle post by Dissector   at Sep 16,2004 4:00pm
I'm with Joe on this one. Too much death metal just sounds the same. The ones that do stick out are great though. I'm more into grindcore and the old school death metal stuff when it used to be fresh and unique. Now too many bands just want to be as brutal as possible and it all just blends together.

toggletoggle post by heimdall  at Sep 16,2004 4:28pm
I know I probaly dont like death metal for two reasons

1. I have never heard any I like
2. I have never bothered to listen to bands recommened as good death.

I listen to alot of harsh and heavy music, and alot of metal but I dont know what I bands might be classified as death that I listen to.

hahaha, Compost Pile. Badass shit. That was our ex-drummers old band. I found that Metal Is A Tough Buisiness comp. up in Maine last weekend. Its from 98 and has a bunch New England metal/death/melodic/etc.. bands on it including Compost Pile. It was a good find cause I know that comp was never repressed so it had to of been sitting in the store for 6 six years.
