Or were you not talking about reverb at all? If so, I'd go with an EQ pedal but make sure to put it after your distortion stage. So, in the effects loop if you're using amp distortion.


Thanks. I would just be using amp's distortion. More for blues/rock then metal.

If you're not using a ton of amp distortion, you can put the pedal up front and it should work fine. Lots of people will use an overdrive pedal for this (like that Maxon, or any other member of the Tube Screamer extended family) and just turn the drive all the way down. So you increase the level without adding too much distortion, and those pedals also usually boost the midrange a bit which is good for this kind of thing.

I used to use one of these, fairly cheap and they give you more options than a basic tubescreamer clone.
