A lot of the so-called "transcendental" bands people are always arguing about, though some may play some good music, are not usually black metal. Blackness is a diverse word, but only encompasses elements such as hatred, depression, malevolence, bleakness, and overall negativity. This can also be portrayed via harmony and melody, especially with chromatics, tritones, minor 2nds etc. But if a band does not have this blackness, they're simply not black metal. Also: this thread is racist!
