I made sure I didn't wear any of the shirts I bought that weekend to any of the shows, as I didn't want them to end up giant balls of sweat. So my reviews of what I saw...

Ex-Dementia - Old school death, sounded pretty good.
XBrainiaX - Out of their element at a place like Sonar for sure, but they played tight.
Swarm of the Lotus - Sounded like metalcore, left.
Nekromantheon - Awesome old school thrash, I watched most of their set and they slayed.
PLF - A truly eclectic bulldozer of sound, awesome.
Iron Lung - One of the most pissed off bands there is live, comedic stage banter in between songs, and Jensen is also a very hard hitter on the drums. I wish I could see this band every week.
Birdflesh - Great costumes and great band, if there is ever a band worthy of the word "goofball", it's these guys. But I like that sort of thing.
General Surgery - They were cool but I was too tired to watch all of it.

The Communion - I only saw the last half of the last song.
Putrescence - Sloppy and kind of boring.
Defeatist - Tight as fucking hell and a real barrage of sound, they kicked ass.
Malignancy - I HATE this band on CD but they were okay live I guess. A lot of people complained about the sound on the outside stages throughout the fest. A band like this worked better for me outside since you couldn't hear all the unnecessary technicality.
Gorguts - See Malignancy review
Tombs - blech
Nazxul - See Tombs review
Watain - They were good for a few songs but then I got bored. I mean, it is black metal after all.
Gride - Warp speed ten! Energetic as shit and they really kicked some ass. Probably the best band of Friday.
Coffins - I can't even remember what this band sounded like, honestly.
DRI - They were doing a lot of rock star type shit on stage, making faces like "Wow, is it really us playing these songs? We're so cool!" They had some problems with Spike's guitar and while he was off fixing it, the bass player was playing random Dio songs and whatever else and basically being embarassing. Their drummer sucked too. Probably the biggest let down of the weekend. I stopped watching during the technical difficulties.

Sulaco - zzzzzzzzz
Fang - I liked them more on the outside stage, it seemed more suited to them. The stage banter was funny. The music was still boring as fuck though.
Ingrowing - These guys were KILLER! I hope this band plays the states again soon. Set ended with one of the guitar players jumping up onto the barrier, letting everyone in the crowd bang on his guitar, then tossing it to the side and diving into the crowd. That's a true finish right there.
Total Fucking Destruction - Total fucking garbage
Impaled - Somehow I'd managed to never listen to this band before, at least not that I can remember. They were great live, makes me want to look into them more.
Blood Duster - I can't believe how much old stuff they played. Yet another assault of sound and only a couple of the rock type songs were played. Kind of wish they played more though.
Obliteration - Same guitar/vocals as Nekromantheon, this seemed to take on more of a death metal tone. I didn't see a whole lot of them (I was browsing the merch tables while they were playing) but they sounded cool also.
Melechesh - I could tell by the name I wouldn't like this band and I was right.
Verbal Abuse - I only watched a few songs but they sounded great and had a lot of energy. Old dudes kick ass.
Repulsion - They kicked insane amounts of ass! The setlist was mostly just Horrified in order so it was really easy to keep track of what they were playing too.
Autopsy - INSANELY BRUTAL! My only problem with the set was that I couldn't hear the guitarist on left side (my left) too well so some of the solos he did were almost inaudible. But the tones were great, the setlist was diverse, and it all around ripped! Not to mention they were probably one of the biggest drawing bands there, but still so humble. Always a bonus.

Rottenness - BREEBREEBREEBREEBREEBREEBREEBREE fuck this band.
Surroundings - They were pretty good, another band I felt was out of their element at a place like Sonar though.
Mass Grave - They were also pretty good, but definitely not a band I'd ever shit my pants over. I last saw this band three years ago and never bothered to listen to any of their material if that says anything.
Rompeprop - One of the most fun bands of the weekend! Everything about this band is comical to me, the bassist dressed in a skeleton costume playing a bass that looks like a dick fucking a vagina, the fact that there were two microphones set up with one to talk to the crowd and the other having the pitch shift on it (and these guys have one of my favorite pitch shift effects of anybody), the fact that they did a cover of "Born to be Wild" and called it "Porn to be Wild", the fact that they're playing goregrind yet all the songs are as catchy as pop-punk type stuff, the traditional Dutch music opening... I wasn't sure this band would translate live but I thought they were great.
Gridlink - Absolutely fucking ripped all over the place. People weren't even really moving around, they were just trying to figure out what was going on while in awe. They switched guitars a couple times during their set too (5-string bass to 6-string and back, 6-string guitars to 7-strings and back). Awesome.
Crucifist - Can't even remember what they sounded like, didn't watch them for long.
Black Breath - I thought they were pretty good musically too but got the same weird ego vibe from their vocalist (standing in such a way as to make himself look cool, throwing the horns, calling everyone in the crowd sick motherfuckers all the time, etc), kind of ruined it for me.
Eyehategod - The pic of me flipping off the camera while standing up on the high pillar was while I was watching this band play. They played right after Gridlink so it didn't really go down quite as smooth but they did sound exactly as I expected and I dug it.
Captain Cleanoff - Holy FUCK! The intensity of this band's set surprised me so much, easily in the top five sets of the weekend. Fast as fuck, all the tones were biting, and the vocals were truly harsh. Full package achieved.
Entombed - I was hanging around outside talking to my friends while they were playing on the street stage across from where we were. I like Left Hand Path and all but these guys sounded like dog balls.
Converge - I'm not really familiar with the new album but when I heard it at a friend's house some months ago, I thought it sounded as good as Jane Doe. There were tons of people who showed up just for this band on this day. The crowd was absolutely insane and Converge always delivers live.
Magrudergrind - I'm so fucking tired of seeing this band. Set was typical.
Capitalist Casualties - Same setlist as the Providence show (as the tour?), and another band that sounded noticeably out of their element at a place like Sonar. However, they were still intense as shit and standing on the barrier to scream along whatever words I knew was the perfect way to end the weekend!
