You could not put a headliner in front of me that I would sell tickets to play with, ever. If a club or promoter is asking you to sell tickets they are basically saying they do not have the faith in you to bring people in the door. It is their job to being the people in by promoting and putting good bands on the bill. Only shithead promoters and clubs will give you the line of "well, if you can't sell # tickets then maybe you're not that good." It is a cop out and they need to do their job better. If a promoter needs bands to sell tickets then they are lazy and need to get out their and, gasp, promote.
